The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: the next 16 days for Fano Sassonia are a proper struggle. The swell window is just not cooperating, and we’re looking at a long, dry spell with hardly any waves worth paddling out for.
The first real chance to get wet doesn't come until Sunday the 30th of August. Even then, it’s marginal. We’ve got a tiny swell rolling in from the ESE, measuring a pathetic 1.0ft with a period of 6 seconds. The combined wave energy is a lowly (6), so there’s barely any push. The only saving grace is that on Sunday morning the wind is light and variable, leaving the ocean glassy. It’s not going to be a day for any kind of performance, but if you’re desperate for a float on a foamie, the conditions will be clean. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
Monday the 31st of August morning offers a whisper of a wave, 0.3ft from the SE, and again, clean conditions with a light cross-offshore breeze. But honestly, 0.3ft is barely a ripple. After that, we hit another dead zone.
The pattern doesn’t really change until the 2nd of September. Wednesday morning shows a slight bump in energy, with a 2ft swell from the NE, period of 5 seconds, and a combined energy of (11). The wind is light and the surf is clean. It’s still small, but it’s the best we’ve seen. The true standout, however, is Thursday the 3rd of September. The morning brings a light offshore wind from the WSW, keeping things clean. The swell is coming from the NNE at 1ft, but the period is a short 4 seconds. The combined energy hits (7). It’s not powerful, but it’s the most consistent-looking window in the whole forecast.
For the rest of the period, it’s a mixed bag of flat spells and tiny, weak windswell. Friday the 4th of September has a bit of size (2ft to 3ft) but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, turning the ocean choppy and messy. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a surfing one.
Overall, there’s no epic swell on the horizon. The best you can hope for is a clean, tiny wave on the 30th of August, or the slightly better, but still very small, offshore conditions on the morning of the 3rd of September. Don’t book the day off work for it, but keep an eye on the cam.
Rusty.
