Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what the Adriatic is serving up for us around Fano Sassonia over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, mate, it’s a pretty flat spell. We’re staring down a long, quiet run here. The first real bump of any kind doesn't show up until the morning of Saturday, 19th July, and even then it’s a tiny little pulse. Most of this window is just dead calm or tiny windswell that’s blown out. The local water is sitting at a very warm 82°, which is much warmer than the long-term average for this time of year.
From now right through to Friday, 18th July, there’s nothing worth paddling for. It’s a long gap. We’re talking clean mornings with glassy conditions on the 7th and 10th, but no swell to push a surfboard. Afternoons get a messy cross-onshore chop from the northeast, but the wave heights are basically zero or a pathetic 1ft. The combined wave energy is a weak 1 (one) on those rare occasions. It’s just not happening.
The only flicker of life comes right at the very end of the forecast. On the morning of Sunday, 19th July, the swell shows up at Fano Sassonia. It’s a tiny 1ft from the northwest, with a period of just 3 seconds. That’s a short, weak, locally generated bump. The combined energy is still a weak 1 (one). The wind is a light cross-shore, so it won't be a total mess, but don’t expect much more than a knee-high ripple. Later that afternoon, the swell tries to build to 2ft from the north-northeast with a 5-second period and energy creeping up to 17 (seventeen), but it's getting hit by a moderate onshore wind from the northeast. That’s your classic bump-and-chop combo, not a clean wave.
Then on Monday morning, 20th July, we get a tiny 0.7ft pulse from the north-northeast but at least the wind goes light offshore from the southwest. That’ll be glassy and clean, but the swell is barely there. The combined energy is a measly 1 (one).
So, what’s the standout? It’s hard to call any of this a standout, but if you’re desperate for a surf, the best option is the early morning of Sunday, 19th July. The conditions will be clean enough with a light cross-shore, but it’s for absolute beginners on a foamie. The afternoon of the 19th has the most size, but the onshore wind is going to ruin it. The morning of Monday, 20th July, offers a clean, glassy window but with even less swell. It’s one of those periods where you’re better off waiting for the next proper swell. That’s just the way it goes sometimes here.
Rusty.
