The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this outlook for Fano Sassonia is a tough one to write. We’re looking at a solid 16-day window, but honestly, the surf is way down. There are no good options on offer here, so we’re basically in a flat spell for the foreseeable future. The water temp is sitting around 78°, which is pretty much average for this time of year, so at least a swim is comfortable.
The first hint of anything rideable doesn’t even show up until Wednesday the 22nd, and even then it’s a struggle. The morning brings a weak 5 ft swell from the NE, but it’s coming in with a cross-onshore breeze, so quality is poor. The combined energy is only 152 (moderate at best), and the period is a short 6 seconds, so you’re looking at bumpy, weak lines. After that, it’s back to tiny or no swell for days. We get a few mornings with glassy conditions and offshore wind—like Thursday the 23rd morning with a light W cross-off—but the swell is a pathetic 1 ft, so you’re just floating.
The pattern repeats: a couple of afternoons with a little bump, like Friday the 31st afternoon with a 3 ft NE swell, but the onshore wind is 15 km/h, and the energy is only 54. That’s barely enough to get a grovel board moving. The best-looking window on paper is Saturday the 1st of August morning: a glassy start with a 3 ft swell from the NE, period of 5 seconds, and the energy at 38. It’s clean, but it’s still tiny and weak. For a beginner spot, this is just too small and inconsistent to be worth the paddle.
This area is generally inconsistent, so a blank run like this isn’t unusual. It sucks, but forecasts can always change. For now, there’s nothing to recommend. The breaks are mostly exposed to the ESE, and the swell just isn’t cooperating. You’re better off leaving the boards at home.
That’s the grim news. Stay tuned, and maybe we’ll get lucky.
