The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about this stretch of coast. We’ve got a long, quiet outlook ahead.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, it’s a tough one. The truth is, there’s nothing on the table that’s worth getting excited about. The first few days are a total write-off, and honestly, the pattern doesn’t really change. The waves are just too small and the wind keeps messing it up.
We kick off on Wednesday, August 19th, and there’s absolutely no surf to ride. The same goes for the first part of the next day. It isn’t until Thursday morning, August 20th, that we see a tiny pulse – a mere 0.7ft of swell from the ESE, with a period of only 4 seconds. That’s weak, 2 (combined energy of all swells directed here) is barely registering. The wind is light offshore from the SW though, so the surface would be clean, but you’d be struggling to get a ride.
The next few days are a rerun of the same story. Friday morning, August 21st, the swell bumps up to a pathetic 2ft from the East, still with a sad 5-second period. The combined energy is only 11 (combined energy of all swells directed here). The wind is light and cross-off from the South, so it’s clean, but the lack of energy is a killer. The afternoons turn choppy as the wind swings onshore.
This frustrating pattern of tiny, short-period swell and mixed-up winds sticks around for the entire week. Saturday, August 22nd, tops out at 1.0ft from the ESE. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday… it’s all the same. The wind is sometimes offshore, making it glassy, but the swell is practically non-existent. We’re looking at a long stretch of days with combined energy in the single digits – like 1 or 2 (combined energy of all swells directed here). It’s flat, or close to it.
There’s a glimmer on Wednesday, August 26th, with a clean morning and a 2ft swell from the North with a 4-second period. The combined energy is 16 (combined energy of all swells directed here). The wind is gentle offshore from the WSW, so it’s clean. But again, it’s too small to really surf.
The best we can point to is that Thursday morning, August 27th, has a light offshore wind from the WSW and clean conditions, but the swell is just 1ft from the NE. It’s a very small, clean option for a log or a soft-top. The combined energy is only 4 (combined energy of all swells directed here). It’s really not a standout – it’s just the least bad of a bad lot.
After that, the whole second week dries up completely. From Saturday, August 30th, right through to Thursday, September 3rd, there are long gaps with no recommended surf at all. The combined energy is zero for most of those days. The wind is variable, but it doesn’t matter because there’s no swell.
Look, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this is a classic blank run for this area. It’s just one of those periods. Don’t waste your time staring at the ocean. The forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a no-go.
Rusty.
