The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: it’s a tough stretch ahead for the Fano Sassonia area. The guidance is pretty clear, and looking at the numbers, there’s just not much to get excited about for the next 16 days.
We’re starting on Wednesday, August 19th, and right off the bat, there’s nothing. The water is running warm at 84°, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing that’s out of the ordinary. The first few days are a total washout with zero swell energy (0).
The first faint pulse comes through on Thursday, August 20th, with a tiny 0.7ft swell from the ESE, but it’s paired with a short period of 4 seconds and almost no energy (1). The wind is clean in the morning but goes cross-on in the afternoon, so it’s a no-go.
Friday, August 21st, offers a glimmer. We get a 1ft to 2ft swell from the east, with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy is still weak at just 13 by afternoon, but the wind goes glassy on Friday afternoon. That’s the standout moment, but the swell is tiny, so it’s really just a chance to get wet on a longboard. The break is inconsistent and exposed, so you’ll be scratching for waves.
From Saturday, August 22nd, we slide back into a flat spell. The swell drops off, and we’re looking at a long stretch of empty days. The energy stays at zero or 1 for most of the time, with the odd pulse of 0.7ft to 1.0ft that just doesn’t have any push.
Things get a little more interesting on the final day of the month, Monday, August 31st. There’s a 1ft ESE swell with a period of 5 seconds, and the wind is off and clean. The energy is still low at 9, but it’s the cleanest option in the whole window. Then on Tuesday, September 1st, the afternoon sees a jump to 3ft from the north, but the period is short at 5 seconds and the wind is a cross-on 12 mph, making it choppy and messy.
The truth is, the best option in this whole 16-day run is the glassy Friday afternoon on August 21st, with that tiny 2ft east swell. For a beginner spot that’s inconsistent, it’s just not going to produce. Most of the window is a total blank, which is more normal for a quiet area like this. A kite surfer might find something in the stronger afternoon winds, but for a paddle surfer, it’s a waiting game.
Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts, and rustle up some stoke where you can.
Rusty.
