The Lowdown
Alright folks, it’s Rusty here. Look, I’ve scanned the charts for the next 16 days and, to be honest, it’s a pretty grim run for a paddle. There’s nothing on the board that’s really worth calling a standout. The only spot in the mix is Fano Sassonia, and even that’s a struggle. It’s a beginner-friendly break, but it’s inconsistent and exposed to whatever’s out there. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing wild to report there.
The whole period starts with a total blank. From Tuesday the 14th right through to Sunday the 19th, there’s virtually no swell to speak of. We’re talking flat days with scores of zero wave energy, just a few tiny wobbles in the afternoon with 1 ft of short-period junk. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-on, so it’s choppy and messy. Not a single moment where you’d want to bother paddling out.
Things try to pick up a little around Monday the 20th of July. The morning sees a 4 ft swell from the NE, with a period of 6 seconds and combined energy reading 69. That’s weak energy, mate. The wind is light cross-on, so it’s not completely blown out, but the swell is still short and weak. The afternoon is a bit bigger with the same height but stronger onshore wind, making it ugly. The wave comment says “poor surf conditions” across the board, so don’t get your hopes up.
Tuesday the 21st is much the same: 4 ft in the morning from the ENE with a 6-second period (energy 87) and a light onshore breeze. The afternoon gets windier with a fresh breeze straight onshore, making it even harder to enjoy. Still poor.
Wednesday the 22nd offers a brief moment of glass in the morning with a 3 ft swell from the NE, 5-second period, and combined energy of 33. That’s glassy, sure, but it’s tiny, weak, and still considered poor surf. The afternoon is a no-go.
From Thursday the 23rd onwards, it’s back to tiny waves and onshore wind, with the occasional risk of thunderstorms. The 24th and 25th are flat again. The 26th through the 29th offer just a few scraps of 1 ft, 2-second period junk. The combined energy is barely registering at 1. It’s a write-off.
So, where’s the best? Honestly, there isn’t a best. If you’re desperate, the glassy morning of Wednesday the 22nd might be the least bad option, but that’s not saying much. For a real surfer, there’s nothing to chase here. The setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than someone with a paddle board. We’ll see if the forecasts change, but for now, it’s a long gap of nothing.
Rusty.
