Alright, surfers, Rusty here. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming up for Cap de la Chevre. The first real action doesn’t kick off until Friday, the 3rd of July. Up until then, there’s just nothing doing.
Friday morning is your window. We’ve got a clean 5ft swell rolling in from the WNW with a 10-second period and a cross-offshore breeze from the NNE at just 3 mph. The wave energy is moderate (490), and it’s going to be clean. For an expert spot like this, that’s the pick of the whole forecast. On Friday afternoon, the wind swings NNW and howls up to 19 mph, which will chop it up and ruin it.
The water temperature is about average for this time of year, and the water’s clear.
Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th have smaller surf, but the mornings offer cleaner conditions with lighter winds—4ft on Saturday and 2ft on Sunday. The swell’s still from a W/NW direction. It’s surfable, but nothing compared to that Friday morning push.
After Sunday, it gets pretty grim. From Monday the 6th right through to Monday the 13th of July, the surf is mostly small, weak, and plagued by onshore or cross-shore winds. A lot of these days are best described as poor. There’s a tiny window on Thursday the 9th morning with an offshore ENE breeze and a 3ft swell, but it’s hardly worth the paddle out.
Then, on Tuesday the 14th of July, we get a bit of a tease. The morning shows a clean 4ft swell from the W with an 11-second period, but the wind is cross-shore and the score is marginal. It’s not clean enough to call a standout. The energy is moderate (452), but it’s just not coming together.
The rest of the forecast into the 18th is pretty much a write-off: small, sloppy, and often windy. The spot can handle a bit of size, but with these winds, it’s not happening. For an expert break like this, you really need those offshore or light cross-off days, and there’s only one true standout early on.
So, bottom line: make the most of the Friday the 3rd of July morning. After that, this place is tough.
Rusty.
