The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Cap de la Chevre.
First thing you gotta know, the water's sitting at a balmy 68°F, which is a solid 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That's a proper treat, you'll be in shorties or maybe even trunks if you're brave.
Right, let's be real. The next week and a half is a bit of a heartbreaker. The surf is tiny, the wind is all over the place, and the energy is flat. We're talking combined energy readings mostly down in the teens and twenties (17 to 53) – that's weak, barely a ripple. The wind is a mess, constantly shifting from cross-off to cross-on, and even when it's offshore on Sunday the 19th, the swell is only 2ft with a short, weak 6-second period. It's just gutless. The models are calling it "poor surf conditions" day after day, and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. There's a big gap of nothing special from now all the way through to the 29th of July.
We finally get a pulse of energy on the 26th of July, with a combined energy of 476, but it's onshore, lumpy, and closing out at 6ft. That's a mess for a point break, and honestly, with that cross-onshore wind, it looks more like a kitesurfing session than a paddle session.
The one true standout – and the only thing worth getting excited about – is the morning of Thursday the 30th of July. The wind goes completely glassy. That's a huge deal. The swell is a solid 5ft from the NW with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is a strong 380. It's not the biggest, but it's legit. The problem is this spot is an expert wave, and 5ft with that kind of power on a point break with glassy conditions is going to be pretty consequential. The crowd factor is "sometimes" busy, so get out early. This is the one.
After that, the morning of Friday the 31st of July has some clean 6ft NW swell with a 10-second period (energy 580), but it's blowing a 16 mph cross-offshore wind. It'll be clean, but the wind is strong, making it a battle.
Then, on Sunday the 2nd of August, the morning cleans up with a light offshore ENE breeze at 6 mph and a 4ft NW swell with a 9-second period (energy 235). It's a nice little session, but nothing epic.
So, bottom line: Don't waste your time for the next week. Wait for that Thursday the 30th morning. If you're an expert and you see that glass-off, you get in the water. That's the call.
Rusty.
