The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ at Cap de la Chevre over the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, I’m lookin’ at a pretty bleak run for the first ten days or so. We’ve got a real dry spell on our hands. From Wednesday the 15th right through until the 24th of July, it’s all showing poor surf conditions. The swell is tiny, mostly hangin’ around 1.0ft to 3ft, and the energy in the water is weak, with combined energy readings barely getting past 84 (34 to 84). The winds are mostly cross or cross-on, which isn’t doing us any favours, and the periods are short, around 5 to 10 seconds. It’s gonna be a frustrating wait for any real wave to ride.
Now, we do finally see a flicker of something on the 25th of July. Saturday morning is the only real standout in this whole 16-day window. The swell bumps up to a clean 3ft coming from the WNW, with a longer period of 11 seconds giving it some proper shape. The combined energy jumps to 394 (moderate wave energy), and the wind is a light cross-off breeze from the SE. That’s gonna leave the surface clean. For a spot that’s exposed to the WSW, a WNW swell is a decent match. But I gotta be real with you – this is a powerful, expert-level point break, and it’s only fairly consistent. Even when it’s on, it can be a fickle beast. Saturday morning is your best bet, but it’s a one-morning wonder.
After that, things get messy again. The swell actually gets bigger – 4ft to 7ft – but the wind swings onshore or cross-shore and gets strong, with speeds up to 22 mph. The energy gets high (361 to 1097), but the chop and lumpy conditions will ruin it. By the 27th and 28th, the swell is over 7ft and the wind is howling, making it a mess. Honestly, for a beach-and-reef setup like this, that’s more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer.
So, to sum it up: the water temp is about average for the time of year. You’ve got a long, quiet stretch ahead, then a brief, promising moment on the morning of the 25th. Don’t get your hopes up for the rest.
Rusty.
