The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's coming up for Cap de la Chevre.
We're looking at a pretty rough run to kick things off. The next week and a half is mostly a write-off, with a couple of brief, low-quality windows. The best option, and it's a real long-shot, is the afternoon of Friday the 4th of September. That's the standout.
Okay, let's break it down. From now until late August, it's grim. Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st are a total bust with onshore winds slamming a messy 6ft to 8ft swell and moderate wave energy (864). Saturday the 22nd morning might give you a tiny, knee-high wave at 3ft with a light offshore breeze from the ENE, but the energy is weak (119) and it's a long way from being good. Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th have clean offshore winds, but the swell is basically nonexistent at 0.7ft to 1ft (energy as low as 7). You'd be floating more than surfing.
We then have a long, dull stretch with nothing rideable until the morning of Wednesday the 27th of August when we see a pulse of 6ft from the SW with a short period of 7 seconds. The energy kicks up to 502 (moderate), but south-westerly swell isn't firing at this point break. It's a marginal call at best. After that, conditions quickly deteriorate again into a stormy, choppy mess of onshore winds as we head towards the end of the month. A big, raw 10ft to 12ft swell shows up on the 29th and 30th of August, but cross-onshore winds will make it a lumpy, blown-out wall. At that size and with those winds, this is strictly for experts, or honestly, it looks more suited for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
Now, the one true standout. The prize is Friday the 4th of September in the afternoon. The forecast shows a strong 10ft swell rolling in from the west, with a period of 9 seconds, generating a hefty wave energy of 1548 (strong). The real kicker is the wind: a light, cross-offshore breeze from the NNE will clean it right up. This is a classic setup for a point break like Cap de la Chevre. That size, though, is solidly in expert territory – anything over 8ft is for experienced surfers only. The swell direction from the west is a decent match for the spot's optimum from WSW, so we should get some proper, lined-up walls.
Remember, this is a long-range call and a bit of a gamble, but when everything aligns like that, you want to be there. Keep your fingers crossed the forecast holds.
Rusty.
