Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s talk about what’s coming up in the next couple weeks, and I’ll be real – we’re gonna need some patience. The first chance to actually get a decent paddle in doesn’t show up until Friday, July 10th. From now through Thursday the 9th, it’s mostly flat or so weak and messy you’d be better off just staring at the ocean. The swell energy is low (62 to 136), and the wind is often a problem. A lot of those days are straight write-offs.
The standout session, the one to really circle on your calendar, is Friday morning, July 10th at Cap de la Chevre. It’s a point break, which loves this kind of setup. We’re looking at a clean 1.3m swell coming from the WNW with a 9-second period. The combined energy hits a moderate 249, the best we see by far. The real beauty is the wind – light at 5 mph from the south, keeping it glassy. That’s a major positive. It’s an expert spot, so crowds are possible, but on a Friday morning like that, you might have some solo time. It’s not a giant swell, but it’s the best trade-off of size and clean conditions we get.
Later that weekend, Saturday morning, July 11th is another look. The swell drops back to 0.5m, but we get a clean cross-off wind from the southeast at 10 mph. The energy is weak (138), but conditions are clean. For a longboard and a lazy morning, it’ll do.
After that, honestly, it gets grim. From Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th, it’s tiny and weak – 0.1m to 0.5m, with energy barely above 71. There are glassy moments on the 14th and 16th, but there’s just no power in the water.
Come the second week, around Sunday, July 19th, the swell tries to build to 1.4m, but the wind goes bad – cross-on and choppy. It gets worse on the 20th and 21st with swell hitting 1.7m to 2.0m, but the wind is howling onshore at 12 to 15 mph. The energy is strong (343 to 488), but with that wind, it’ll be a blown-out, bumpy mess. For the experts, you can give it a look, but honestly, that setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, bottom line: your best shot is Friday morning, July 10th at Cap de la Chevre. After that, it’s a lot of waiting and hoping the forecasts flip for the better. Tough stretch, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
Rusty.
