The Lowdown
Alright grab your wetsuit, because we've got one spot on the radar and it's a tricky one. We're looking at a long stretch ahead, and honestly, the surf is going to be a tough nut to crack for most of it.
This whole forecast is about Cap de la Chevre, an expert-level point break. The water temp is sitting at 65°, which is pretty much your average for this time of year, nothing wild there. The problem is, for the next nine or ten days, the conditions just aren't lining up. We've got a run of poor surf with messy winds and small, weak swell.
We do eventually see some decent size roll in, but the wind is nearly always onshore or cross-onshore, tearing it up. For the first week, into the end of August and beginning of September, there's barely a whisper. A lot of flat, weak days with combined swell energy barely getting out of double digits (50, 76, 38). It's a real bummer.
Now, there's a little blip on Thursday morning, August 27th. The swell bumps up to 6 ft from the SW, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 597 - that's moderate. It's still not perfect with a cross-shore wind, and there are thunderstorms around, but it's the first time the size gets interesting. For an expert break like this, though, it's still pretty marginal.
The real size shows up on Friday, August 28th. We're looking at 8 ft to 8 ft of SW and WSW swell, with a solid 10-second period. The wave energy is strong, around 1027 to 1484. But the wind is a disaster - a near gale cross-onshore on Friday morning, blowing it out completely. That's a hard pass for surfing, though anyone with a kite might be licking their lips. The same goes for Saturday, August 29th, with 10 ft to 12 ft of swell but more strong, messy onshore wind.
Then we hit a flat spell again until Friday, September 4th. The swell comes back with 7 ft to 8 ft from the W and WSW, but we're back to strong cross-onshore and onshore winds. The setup is just too choppy and lumpy.
The one that catches my eye, the one that has me pacing, is Sunday, September 6th. We're talking a massive 12 ft swell from the WNW, with a period stretching to 11 and 12 seconds. The combined energy is through the roof - 2864 on Sunday morning, and 3118 in the afternoon. But, and it's a big but, the wind is cross-onshore and onshore, making it a mess. It's a lot of power but it's going to be a washing machine. With that kind of size and a long period at a point break, the wave shape *could* be incredible, but the wind is just going to trash it. It's a real shame.
Honestly, there isn't a single standout session in this whole 16-day window where everything lines up. If you're an expert and just want to stare at some heavy, raw ocean, that Sunday the 6th is something to watch. But for clean, rideable waves, this is a tough stretch.
