Table - best surf conditions forecast for Barvas (Lewis) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let's talk about the Hebrides in feet and knots. It's a slow burner this time, for sure. The first chunk of the forecast is a right-off.
We're looking at Barvas (Lewis). Honestly, for the first week starting Tuesday the 7th, the wind is all over the place. Cross-onshore and cross-shore winds with a moderate chop on some waist to chest-high swell. The wave energy is moderate (around 398 on Tuesday morning) but the wind just chops it all up. Thursday the 9th teases with a 6ft swell and moderate energy (532) but it's a cross-shore mess. Not worth the drive.
But then the tide turns. If you’re keen, Sunday the 12th shows a change. The swell drops right down to about 2ft, but the wind swings light and cross-offshore out of the NE. The energy is weak (57), but those light winds will make it glassy and clean. It’s small, but for a longboard or a funboard, you’ll be sliding on clean little runners. Monday the 13th afternoon is even better. The swell picks up to a clean 3ft from the WNW, with a 10-second period, and a nice gentle cross-offshore breeze (204 moderate energy). That's a solid window for some mellow, clean waves.
The real standout, the one to circle, is Tuesday the 14th. Morning is prime. The wind is practically nothing, a slight air from the ENE, cross-offshore. We’ve got a solid 4ft swell from the west with a 10-second period. The energy is moderate (248). The water temp is about 55°F, which is normal for this time of year. The conditions are clean, the wind is glassy, and for Barvas that’s as perfect as it gets. After that, the second week gets windier and smaller, with a brief glimmer on Monday the 20th where it goes glassy with a tiny 2ft swell. Keep an eye on that, but the 14th is your best bet by far.
Overall, for a reef that can be pretty consistent, the first week is a proper bust. But those clean windows from the 12th to the 14th are worth waiting for if you want a quiet, clean session.
Rusty.
