Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for the next couple of weeks up at Barvas.
Starting off, it's a bit of a rough patch. We’ve got a decent-sized west swell pushing through on the 4th and 5th, with waves around 6 ft and the combined energy sitting at a moderate 652, but the wind is just shocking. That cross-onshore breeze is destroying any chance of clean surf. You’d be fighting a losing battle out there.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Sunday afternoon, the 5th. The wind drops right off, going glassy, and the surf cleans up nicely. The swell drops a bit to 4 ft from the west, with a period of 9 seconds. The energy is still moderate at 252. It won't be pumping, but for a late session, it’ll be the cleanest ride of the first week.
We hit a bit of a wall after that. Monday the 6th through to the 11th is mostly a write-off with strong onshores and messy conditions, or only small, marginal surf. The water temp is sitting at 55°, pretty much spot on for the time of year here, so the wetsuit is staying on.
The real standout window, and the one I'd be pointing my board at, is the 13th and 14th of July. On Monday the 13th, we get a lovely glassy morning with a clean 4 ft west swell (249 energy). The period is a solid 8 seconds, so it’s a bit shorter period groundswell, but with those offshore easterly breezes, Barvas (Lewis) will be looking like a treat. The following day, Tuesday the 14th, keeps that good run going with light cross-offshore winds and a clean 4 ft west swell. The period stretches to 10 seconds, giving the waves a bit more punch. For a reef break that's fairly consistent, this is the pick of the entire forecast.
After that little burst, it fades out again. The 15th and 16th see the energy drop right off into the weak zone, and the 17th through the 19th is mostly back to windy, messy slop with tiny waves. It looks like a long flat spell to close out the two weeks. So, if you can, make that Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th your target days. It’s the best we've got, and it looks genuinely good.
Rusty.
