Table - best surf conditions forecast for Almanarre over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks. Straight up, I’ll be honest with you – this is a tough one. The models are showing a big old blank for most of the period, so we’re going to have to be patient.
Looking at the whole 16-day window, the first real chance for a splash comes right at the start, but it’s barely a ripple. Friday the 10th of July through to the middle of the following week is mostly flat. There are a few tiny pulses, but nothing worth getting excited about. The water out at Almanarre is sitting at a very unusual 78°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year.
The first few days are a write-off. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th have tiny swell – we’re talking 0.3ft from the southwest with a weak 4-second period and combined energy of just (1). The wind is offshore or cross-offshore on the Friday morning, which would be clean, but there’s nothing to ride.
That flat spell hangs around. Sunday the 12th, Monday the 13th, Tuesday the 14th – all zeros. Tuesday morning the 14th does have glassy conditions, but no surf to go with it.
Wednesday the 15th of July finally sees a tiny pulse. Morning is glassy with a 1.0ft south swell, 5-second period, combined energy of just (4). It’s clean but tiny. The afternoon stays small with the same size.
Thursday the 16th of July is similar. A 0.7ft south swell in the morning, light east-southeast winds, clean. Just not enough push.
Then we hit another dead zone. From Friday the 17th right through to Wednesday the 22nd of July, there’s nothing consistent. The wind gets rowdy, especially on Saturday the 18th when a strong breeze from the west kicks up a choppy 3ft west swell with a 6-second period and energy of (78). That’s the biggest swell of the whole forecast, but with onshore wind and short period, surf quality is poor. It’s more of a kite-surfing proposition than a paddle session.
The rest of that stretch is a mess of small, chopped-up leftovers and strong wind. The 25-31 mph gusts on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of July will keep anyone sensible on the beach.
We finally see a glimmer of hope on Friday the 25th of July. The morning is glassy again with a tiny 0.7ft south-southwest swell, 5-second period. It’s small, it’s inconsistent, but if you’re desperate and on a longboard, you might find a knee-high crumbler.
So, what’s the standout? Honestly, there isn’t one. Nothing here cracks the crust. If I had to pick the best of a bad bunch, it’d be the glassy morning on Wednesday the 15th of July for a bit of a splash, or the glassy morning on Friday the 25th of July out at Almanarre. Swell size is tiny, direction is southwest, and the combined energy is weak (4) and (3) respectively. The lack of consistency is the real killer here.
That’s the long and short of it. A real flat spell. Stick to the lake or the longboard for now. Forecasts can change, but this one looks stubborn.
Rusty.
