Table - best surf conditions forecast for Almanarre over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – the forecast for Almanarre over the next 16 days is a tough one to swallow. We’re looking at a long stretch of flat, small, or just plain messy conditions. The first real hope for a wave doesn’t show up until Thursday afternoon the 17th of July, and even then it’s a struggle. Before that, we’ve got a full week of hardly any swell at all, with the combined energy sitting at a measly 1 to 28 (weak energy) for days on end. It’s a hard stretch for a paddle surfer.
Let’s talk about what’s on offer. The only time the swell gets any real size is around the 17th of July. Thursday afternoon the 17th sees a 6 ft swell from the west, but it’s coming with a howling 31 mph onshore wind. That’s a no-go for clean surfing – the wave energy jumps to 290 (moderate energy), but the wind will trash it. The setup at Almanarre is a beach and reef, so with that much wind and that size, this is honestly looking more interesting for kite surfers than paddle surfers right now.
The situation doesn’t get much better. On Tuesday the 21st of July, we see a 7 ft swell from the west with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 807 (strong energy). That’s a lot of water moving, but again, the wind is a strong 19 mph onshore. That’s expert-only territory for size, and the wind will make it a messy battle. For a beginner spot like Almanarre, that’s a hard pass.
The best chance for a clean wave in this whole period? I’d have to point to Wednesday the 22nd of July. The afternoon shows a 4 ft west swell with a 7-second period and a cross-offshore wind from the SSE at 12 mph. The combined energy is 183 (moderate energy). It’s not a world-class day, but it’s the cleanest option we’ve got. The wind will be sideshore-offshore, keeping the surface tidy. But remember, this spot is inconsistent, so don’t bet the farm on it.
The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there with a wetsuit.
Bottom line: the next 16 days are bleak for surfing at Almanarre. There’s a long gap of nothing, then a couple of days of onshore wind and big, messy surf. The only real window for a clean wave is on the 22nd of July, and even then it’s a modest option. It’s one of those stretches where the forecast can change, so keep an eye on it, but for now, I’d be dusting off the kite gear or finding something else to do.
Rusty.
