The Lowdown
Right, it’s looking pretty quiet for Almanarre. Over the next 16 days, there ain’t a single good surf option. Every session comes back as poor conditions. It’s one of those runs where nothing lines up. There are a couple of mornings that look clean or glassy, but the swell is tiny or flat. A blank stretch like this is more normal for the spot when wind and swell refuse to cooperate.
Friday the 21st kicks off rough – risk of thunderstorms early with a weak 2ft swell from the SW at 6 seconds and a cross-on breeze. Combined wave energy is low (35). The afternoon picks up a bit of onshore wind and a 3ft swell, but it’s still no good.
Saturday the 22nd is a write-off. Moderate to fresh onshore winds with swell around 4ft to 4ft, but the period is short and quality is poor. Energy hits 115 at one point, but with the wind howling straight onshore, it’s messy.
Sunday the 23rd looks clean but flat – a 2ft swell in the morning dropping to under 1ft in the afternoon. It’s pretty water, but there’s no wave to catch.
The whole of next week stays small. Monday the 24th has no swell at all. Tuesday the 25th brings a whisper of under 1ft from the WSW in the morning, and by the afternoon the wind goes offshore and it’s clean, but still nothing to ride. Energy is basically zero at times.
We do get a highlight of sorts on Friday the 28th – glassy conditions on the morning with a 2ft swell from the WSW. The water is like a mirror, but the period is only 6 seconds and energy is just 22. It’s the best-looking window, but the swell is marginal. That glass is a real treat, but you’d need a longboard and a lot of patience.
After that, Saturday the 29th sees a spike to 4ft from the west, but it’s under a fresh onshore blow again – kites would be having more fun than paddle surfers. The rest of the period into early September is just more of the same: tiny waves, poor winds, or flat spells.
The only bright spot in the whole 16 days is that Friday 28th morning – if you’re desperate, a glassy 2ft on a longboard might give you a few. But honestly, for proper waves, this stretch is a washout. Forecasts can always change, but right now, I’d be doing something else.
Rusty.
