Table - best surf conditions forecast for Almanarre over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are a proper struggle for surf around here. We’ve got a long, flat spell ahead, with barely a ripple worth paddling for. The only spot on the radar is Almanarre, and even then, it’s a real waiting game.
The first bit of hope doesn’t show up until Friday the 17th of July, in the afternoon. We’ll see a small pulse of swell from the west at about 4ft, with a period of 5 seconds – that’s short-period, windswell stuff, so don’t expect any grunt. The combined energy is weak (53). The wind will be a clean cross-offshore from the ESE at 9 mph, so the surface will look alright, but the waves themselves will be pretty ordinary. It’s a beach-and-reef setup, so with that short period, it’s gonna be a bit messy and gutless.
The next day, Saturday the 18th of July, brings a tiny improvement. The morning sees a 3ft west swell (30 energy, still weak), glassy and clean with a light NE breeze. It’s small but rideable for a beginner. The afternoon picks up a touch to 4ft from the west, period still 5 seconds, with an energy of 83 – that’s the best we’ll see all outlook. Again, clean cross-offshore winds from the ESE at 9 mph. The wave comment is “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions,” so don’t get too excited. It’s a solid “maybe” for a paddle, but not a standout by any stretch.
Beyond that, we get a few half-hearted pulses around Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st of July, with waist-high west swell and glassy or clean conditions, but nothing that’ll get your heart racing. The water temperature at Almanarre is sitting at a very unusual 76°F – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a thick wetsuit.
The crowds at Almanarre can be an issue sometimes, but honestly, with waves this mediocre, I reckon you’ll have the place mostly to yourself. If you’re a beginner, the 1ft to 4ft range is fine for learning, but don’t expect any real push. For experienced surfers, this stretch is more of a kite-surfing kind of setup, especially with the clean but weak winds and beach break.
So, the final word: there’s no true standout. The pick of a poor bunch is the afternoon of Saturday the 18th of July at Almanarre, with 4ft west swell and clean cross-offshore wind. Everything else is flat or tiny. Stay patient or find another hobby until that day.
Rusty.
