Alright, let’s get into it.
Honestly mate, the next couple of weeks are pretty grim for a proper surf at Almanarre. We’ve got a long stretch of barely anything on the cards, especially through the first week and a half. The swell is tiny, period is short, and the energy is just not there. There’s a big gap from Monday the 6th of July right through until nearly the end of the second week where the waves are basically flat or too weak to bother with.
Let’s break it down properly though. The first recommendation doesn’t even come until Monday the 20th of July, and even then it’s not great. On Monday morning the 20th, we see a swell building to about 5ft from the west with a period of 7 seconds. That’s a short period windswell, combined energy hitting moderate at 272. The wind is cross-onshore from the northwest at 15 mph, so it’ll be choppy and messy. That afternoon the swell picks up to 6ft from the west, period still short at 7 seconds, but the wind swings onshore from the west at 22 mph – strong and on it, creating really poor conditions, energy jumps to 501, but that’s not surfable in any fun way. This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing honestly, the wind and chop will be too much for a clean wave.
The only window that might be worth a look is Tuesday the 21st of July. That morning, we’ve got 4ft from the west-northwest, a 5-second period, combined energy at 108 – moderate – and the wind goes glassy from the south at just 3 mph. It’s called "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions", which means tiny, weak, but clean. For a beginner, that could be a paddle, but don’t expect much push. The water temperature is 75°F with an anomaly of 5°F – that’s much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t freeze waiting for a set.
After that, Tuesday afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore from the southeast at 9 mph and the same 4ft swell from the west, energy drops to 95 – borderline weak.
The rest of the forecast into the 22nd and beyond has nothing worth paddling out for – tiny or flat with poor conditions.
So the one standout, if you can even call it that, is Tuesday the 21st of July, early morning at Almanarre. Clean glassy conditions, small swell from the west-northwest, but it’s inconsistent and only really for beginners or someone desperate for a splash. Don’t expect any power or shape – that 5-second period means short, weak waves.
Rusty.
