The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's see what we've got.
Gotta be real with you, the next 16 days at Almanarre are a tough stretch. The waves are tiny, the wind is often a pain, and there's no big day to look forward to. It's a waiting game.
The water is feeling weirdly warm, though. It's sitting at 80°F, which is a massive 6°F warmer than usual for this time of year. Feels like a bath.
Starting out, Thursday (August 20th) is a washout. We're looking at 1ft to 3ft of weak, short-period swell from the SSW, but the wind is all over the place – cross-shore and then cross-onshore with storms threatening. The wave energy is a weak 10 to 42. Not worth getting wet.
Friday (21st) and Saturday (22nd) are no better. The swell gets up to 4ft from the W/SW, but onshore winds are strong, hitting 22 mph. Wave energy hits 148 (moderate) on Friday afternoon, but with a fresh onshore breeze, it'll be a bumpy, blown-out mess.
Sunday (23rd) and Monday (24th) go flat. The swell is gone, wave energy is 5 or less. The wind goes light and cross-offshore, so the water will be glassy, but there's no wave to ride.
Things stay tiny and clean through the week. Tuesday (25th) and Wednesday (26th) offer a chance with 0.3ft to 2ft of swell, and the wind is offshore or cross-offshore. Wave energy is still very low (1 to 29), so it's a longboard or foil situation. The water is clean, but there's no power.
Thursday (27th) is a classic tease. The wind cranks offshore from the ENE at 22 to 25 mph, making the surface glassy. But the swell is a pathetic 0.7ft to 2ft. The wave energy is a paltry 3 to 14. It'll look perfect but be almost unrideable.
We hit another flat spell from Friday (28th) through to Tuesday (September 1st). The swell is gone, wave energy is zero, and the wind is onshore again. A complete blank.
There's a slight pulse on Wednesday (September 2nd). The swell jumps to 5ft from the WNW, with a wave energy of 143 (moderate). But the wind is a fresh cross-onshore at 19 mph, so it will be lumpy and choppy. The period is only 6 seconds, so it's weak, wind-driven swell. For the experts, this might offer some raw, messy power, but the quality won't be there.
The final days, Thursday (3rd) and Friday (4th), show a drop back to 2ft to 3ft. The wind finally goes light and cross-offshore on Friday, offering a clean window, but again, the swell is tiny.
So, the honest truth? There's nothing to get excited about. The best bet is to take the longboard out on the 25th or 26th for a few tiny, clean waves, or gamble on the messy, choppy 5ft on the 2nd of September if you're desperate for some push. It's a tough outlook.
Rusty.
