Table - best surf conditions forecast for Almanarre over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' at Almanarre over the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you, this ain't the most exciting outlook I've ever seen.
We've got a real dry spell on our hands right from the get-go. The first decent sign of any surf doesn't show up until the afternoon of Tuesday, the 14th of July, and even then it's just a tiny 1ft ripple with a short, weak period of 5 seconds. The energy is next to nothing (5). After that, we're back to flat or near-flat conditions for days. The next real pulse of swell arrives a week later, on the afternoon of Monday, the 20th of July, with a 4ft swell from the west at 7 seconds, giving us some moderate energy (119). That's the first wave you'd actually paddle for.
Now, during that whole first week, there are some nice windows of clean, offshore, or glassy wind, but there's just no swell to work with. It's a real tease.
The only period that gets close to being interesting is from the 20th into the 22nd of July. On the afternoon of Monday the 20th, we've got that 4ft west swell (119 energy) with light cross-shore wind. Not perfect, but it's the best on offer that day. The swell builds overnight, and by Tuesday the 21st of July, we're looking at a solid 6ft west swell with 8-second periods and strong energy (399) in the afternoon. But here's the heartbreaker – the wind is howling onshore from the west at 12 mph, making it a choppy, blown-out mess. That kind of size and onshore wind is really only going to appeal to the experienced guys or folks looking to set up a kite.
For a true standout, you gotta wait for the morning of Wednesday, the 22nd of July. The swell has dropped back to a cleaner 4ft from the west (117 energy) with a 7-second period, but more importantly, the wind swings around to a light offshore easterly at 6 mph. That offshore breeze will groom the waves, making them clean and rideable. Conditions will be "surfable but very ordinary," but given the dry spell, this is your best chance for a few clean, fun waves if you're not too picky.
After that, it looks like we're heading back into a flat and windy pattern right through the end of the forecast period. Water temp on the 12th was a balmy 79°, which is way warmer than normal for this time of year.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is a write-off. The only real call is a couple of sessions around the 20th to the 22nd of July, with Wednesday the 22nd morning offering the best chance for a clean wave if the swell holds. After that, we're back to waiting.
Stay patient,
Rusty
