The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get real about Almanarre. Honestly, mate, I’m looking at the next 16 days and it’s a tough stretch. The forecast is flat, with barely a bump to get excited about. The water is sitting at 79°, which is a solid 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s really unusual, almost like bathwater. But for the surf, it’s a dry spell.
We kick off on the 14th of July with a tiny 2ft S swell, but it’s cross-shore wind and the conditions are just poor. The energy is weak (24). Nothing to bother with. Wednesday the 15th is glassy in the morning with a tiny 1ft swell, but it’s still poor. Thursday the 16th morning brings a clean offshore breeze and a 2ft SW swell, but the period is a short 5 seconds, and it’s just not enough to get going. The whole first week is a washout – tiny waves, cross-shore or onshore winds, and poor surf conditions across the board.
There’s a real gap of nothing from the 20th through the 23rd of July, with zero surfable swell. The 24th and 25th show a little 1ft to 2ft S swell, but it’s still weak energy (12-31) and the quality is poor. It’s not worth paddling out for.
The only glimmer in the whole 16-day window comes on the 27th of July, Monday morning. We’ve got a 4ft W swell with a 6-second period, and the wind is offshore from the east at 15 mph. That’s clean. The energy jumps to 98 (moderate), and by the afternoon the swell pushes to 5ft, with fresh offshore wind at 22 mph and energy of 138. That’s a solid window, but it’s a beach break setup, and with that period, the waves might be a bit soft and straight. Still, it’s the only real chance for a surf. The rest of the 28th and 29th fades back to tiny or flat.
So, the standout here is the 27th of July. The morning offshore glass will be clean, and the afternoon has a bit more push. But don’t expect a classic. It’s the best of a bad run. For now, the forecast is pretty grim – a long, quiet stretch with only that one day offering any real hope.
