Table - best surf conditions forecast for Almanarre over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – if you’re looking for a proper surf this fortnight, this isn’t the spot. We’ve got a whole 16-day window and not a single day that’s worth paddling out for. The first few days are a total blank, and the pattern just doesn’t improve.
The water at Almanarre is sitting at a very unusual 79°, which is a whopping 8° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a rare thing, but it’s not going to help the waves.
The first real flicker of swell comes on Tuesday 14 July, but with a tiny 2 ft from the south at a short 6 seconds, it’s just not enough to get excited about. The combined energy is a weak 18, and the wind is cross-offshore, so it’s clean, but the swell is too small and weak to bother with. The rest of the week is more of the same: little 1.0 ft to 1 ft swells, mostly from the SW or W, with periods under 6 seconds. You’ll see some glassy mornings – Wednesday 15 July and Friday 17 July mornings are dead flat but glassy, and Saturday 18 July picks up a bit to 3 ft from the west, but that’s with a 35 km/h onshore wind, so it’s blown out and messy. The combined energy jumps to 60, but it’s not surfable.
The second week is a real drag. From Monday 20 July right through to Tuesday 28 July, we’ve got a long stretch of nothing. The odd 0.7 ft to 1 ft bump shows up, but the energy is rarely above 23, and the winds are often cross-off or light, making it clean but tiny. There’s a brief moment on Saturday 25 July morning with 2 ft from the WSW and a 5-second period, but the combined energy is only 23, and it’s just not enough to ride. The rest is flat or close to it.
Honestly, for a spot that’s exposed to the SW, we’re just not getting any proper push. The whole 16 days are a bust. With such tiny, weak swell and a lot of onshore or cross-shore wind, if you’re desperate for a session, you might be better off looking at a kite. This setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing right now. Forecasts can change, but for now, keep your gear in the shed.
Rusty.
