Table - best surf conditions forecast for Zipolite over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down the surf ahead.
The main event is Zipolite. It’s an exposed, fairly consistent intermediate break, and the water’s a warm 87°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year. You’ll be in shorts or a spring suit.
We’ve got a quiet start. The first chance to surf comes Monday morning, August 3rd. The wind is dead calm, glassy, and we’ve got a clean 3ft SSW groundswell with a 15-second period. The combined swell energy is moderate at 480. It’s small but clean.
Tuesday morning, August 4th, is glassy with a 2ft SSW swell (13-second period, 224 energy). Wednesday morning, August 5th, glassy, 2ft SW swell, 15-second period, 216 energy. Thursday morning, August 6th, glassy, 2ft SW swell, 13-second period, 205 energy.
The first real standout is Saturday morning, August 8th. The wind is near calm, glassy, and we’ve got a 4ft SSW groundswell with a 16-second period – that’s long-period energy. The combined swell energy is strong at 784. This is a clean, quality morning, though that long period might make it a bit straight at the beach break.
Sunday morning, August 9th, glassy, 4ft SSW swell, 14-second period, 597 energy. Monday morning, August 10th, glassy, 3ft SSW swell, 13-second period, 594 energy. Tuesday morning, August 11th, glassy, 3ft SSW swell, 14-second period, 568 energy.
The second week’s standout is Friday morning, August 14th. Glassy, near calm, with a 4ft SW groundswell, a very long 18-second period, and a massive 972 combined energy. This is powerful and clean, but the swell is pushing 4ft, so it’s for experienced surfers. Best on a point or reef.
Saturday morning, August 15th, has a 4ft SW swell, 16-second period, and 1097 energy. It’s got a slight cross-shore breeze. This is getting into the too-big-for-beginners range. Sunday morning, August 16th, glassy with 4ft SW swell, 15-second period, 724 energy. Monday morning, August 17th, glassy with 3ft SW swell, 15-second period, 506 energy.
The mornings are your best bet. The afternoons get choppy or onshore. The two best windows are the morning of Saturday August 8th and the morning of Friday August 14th. Both are clean and glassy. The 14th is the heavier day. Crowds pop up sometimes at Zipolite, so don’t be surprised if there’s a few of you out there.
Rusty.
