The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the Vouliagmeni stretch over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be straight with you – it’s a long, dry spell we’re looking at.
Right off the bat, don’t get your hopes up. This forecast is a total flat spell for Vouliagmeni. From Thursday the 13th of August right through to the morning of Friday the 28th of August, we’ve got a solid two weeks where the swell energy is sitting at zero (0). That’s right, not a ripple of proper surf to speak of. The wind is clean and offshore for much of that time, sometimes glassy even, but without any swell, it’s just a pretty lake. It’s going to be a frustrating wait for anyone with a board in the car.
We finally see a tiny flicker of life on Friday the 28th of August morning. A tiny southerly pulse pushes in at about 0.7ft, with a period of just 4 seconds. The combined swell energy is a measly 1 – basically nothing. The wind is a gentle offshore from the north, so it would be clean, but you’d be hunting for ankle-biters. By the afternoon, it drops even further to 0.3ft with glassy conditions. This isn't surf you'd paddle out for unless you're truly desperate for a float.
For a beginner-friendly spot like Vouliagmeni that’s often crowded and inconsistent, this kind of blank run is actually pretty normal for the area. There’s nothing here that rises to the level of a standout. The water temperature is sitting at 79°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but it won’t do you any good without waves. Honestly, with the consistent offshore winds and zero swell, if you’re into kite surfing, the setup looks far more interesting than paddle surfing right now.
Hang in there, and keep an eye on the charts. It tends not to stay this poor forever.
