Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, the picture for Vouliagmeni is as flat as it gets for the foreseeable future. We’re staring down a long, dry spell with no real swell to speak of. The whole 16-day window is pretty much a write-off for any proper surf. There are a few odd bumps of tiny, short-period slop creeping in around the afternoon of Thursday the 16th of July and Friday the 17th of July, but with heights barely scraping 1 ft and a period of just 2 seconds, that’s not surf, that’s a ripple. Combined wave energy is a paltry 1, so there’s just nothing moving.
The wind, though, is actually going to be a lot of clean offshore or cross-off breezes, which is a real shame because the ocean is giving us zero to work with. The water is sitting at a warm 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least the conditions for a swim are nice.
With the swell being completely absent and the setups here being exposed beach and reef, I wouldn’t even bother paddling out. It’s too weak for surfing, and honestly, on the days that are glassy, it’s a perfect blank canvas for a paddleboard or a kite if you’ve got a strong enough gust. But for a surfer? There’s just nothing to chase. This blank run is a bit of a bummer, but it happens in this area from time to time. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d hang up the board for a while.
