Alright, let’s get stuck into it. Rusty here, and I’ll be straight with ya – this is a tough one for you locals and visitors lookin’ to get wet at Vouliagmeni.
For the first full week, from Monday the 13th of July right through to Sunday the 19th, there’s absolutely no surf on the cards. That’s a solid seven-day gap with zero wave energy. The water is sitting at 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing going for it. The wind is often offshore or glassy, but with no swell to work with, all those clean conditions are just wasted.
Now, things finally start to flicker from Monday the 20th of July. We get a tiny 0.7 ft swell rolling in from the south, with a period of just 3 seconds – that’s short-period junk, basically just wind chop. The combined swell energy is next to nothing at 1 (weak). The morning of the 20th is glassy and calm, which is the best chance for a tiny, clean wave if you’re desperate and on a foamy. But honestly, a 0.7 ft wave with a 3-second period is barely rideable. Afternoon brings onshore wind, so that’s out.
Tuesday the 21st is similar: 0.7 ft from the south, period up to 4 seconds, energy still at 1. The morning has a light offshore from the NNW, so it’ll be clean, but the size is tiny.
Wednesday the 22nd holds the same story – 0.7 ft, south, 4 seconds, energy at 2. Offshore winds in the morning keep it looking clean, but we’re still talking about ankle-biters at best.
From Thursday the 23rd of July all the way through to Tuesday the 28th of July, the guidance shows no measurable swell at all. Zilch. Zero energy. The wind does blow offshore quite a bit, but without any waves, it’s just a flat, clean sea.
Look, there’s no standout session here. The best on offer would be the morning of Monday the 20th or Tuesday the 21st, but only if you’re a beginner wanting to practice paddling on glassy, knee-high bumps. For anyone else, this is a two-week flat spell. Vouliagmeni is an inconsistent spot anyway, so a blank run like this is more normal for the area. Forecasts can change, but for now, leave the boards at home.
Rusty.
