The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough one for the Vouliagmeni (Greece) area. The entire 16-day stretch is looking pretty bleak for surf, with basically no notable swell energy to speak of.
Kicking off from Tuesday, August 11th, right through to the end of the month, the story is the same: flat and poor surf conditions. The first real glimpse of anything at all doesn’t pop up until Thursday, August 20th, when we see a tiny 0.7ft swell from the south with a period of 3 seconds. That’s a weak, short-period windswell with combined energy of only 1 – hardly enough to get excited about. The water temperature is sitting at 79°, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s about the only thing of note.
Through the rest of August, we get a few more tiny pulses: a 0.7ft from the south on Friday the 21st, and a 0.3ft from the south with a 6-second period on Saturday the 22nd. But the wind, while often offshore and glassy in the mornings, is either too strong or swinging onshore in the afternoons, and the swell is just too insignificant to ride. The whole period is plagued by a complete lack of wave energy. Even the glassy, clean conditions we see on the 24th, 25th, and 26th don’t matter because there’s nothing to surf.
Honestly, if you’re looking to paddle out, you’re better off checking the forecasts again in a few days – things can change. But right now, with the consistent lack of swell and that combined energy stuck at 1 or zero, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if you’re desperate for a thrill. Sorry, folks, it’s a flat spell.
Rusty.
