The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here.
Well, I’ve looked over the charts for our patch of coast, and I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s a desert out there. The entire 16-day outlook is a flat spell with absolutely no rideable swell on offer. We’re talking about a solid run from Saturday the 29th of August right through to Sunday the 13th of September with nothing but a flat ocean. There’s not a single wave to get excited about, not even a bump for a longboard.
The only break in the region is Vouliagmeni. It’s an exposed spot that needs a southerly swell to work, but there’s just no energy coming in. The combined wave energy sits at zero (0) for the whole period – that’s as weak as it gets. The wind does offer some clean moments though. On the 31st of August, we get a gentle offshore breeze from the north in the morning, and on the 1st and 2nd of September we see similar light offshores with clean conditions. Even a few glassy mornings pop up, like the afternoon of the 4th of September and the morning of the 10th of September. But with nothing to push, it’s just a pretty, flat ocean.
This break is inconsistent at the best of times, and it’s a beginner-friendly spot when there is something to ride. But right now, it’s totally out of the picture. For us locals, this blank run is pretty normal for this time of year – it happens. The good news is the forecasts can change, so don’t lose hope. For now, though, don’t bother packing the board. If you’re desperate for a session on the water, a kite might be your only chance, but honestly, there’s not even enough wind for that most days.
