The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Vouliagmeni. I’ll be straight with you, mate – this one is a tough outlook. The whole 16-day window is full of "poor surf conditions" flags, and the combined swell energy is a flat zero for most of it. Honestly, there’s nothing to get excited about.
We’ve got a long, dry spell from Monday, August 3rd, all the way through to Friday, August 14th. Not a single wave worth paddling for. The wind is offshore plenty, but without any swell, it’s just a glassy, flat lake. The water is sitting at 79°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that doesn’t help the surf.
The first hint of life doesn’t appear until Saturday, August 15th. On the morning of the 15th, we see a tiny 0.7ft wave from the south, with a period of just 4 seconds. That’s barely a ripple, and the combined energy is only 1 (weak). The wind is a gentle offshore from the NNW, so it’s clean, but there’s no power behind it. The afternoon of the 15th turns glassy, but the swell disappears.
Sunday, August 16th, has a similar story – a 0.7ft south swell in the morning, then a 0.3ft from the southwest in the afternoon. Again, combined energy is just 1-2 (very weak). The wind is light, keeping it clean, but the period is still only 4 seconds. This is ankle-snappers at best.
Monday, August 17th, offers a 0.7ft swell from the SSW, but again, with a 4-second period and combined energy of 2 (weak). The wind is offshore in the morning, so it’s clean, but there’s simply no substance.
After that, from Tuesday, August 18th, it’s back to flat, with no swell recorded and poor surf conditions.
So, the reality is this: Vouliagmeni is an inconsistent beginner spot, and unfortunately, this 16-day window shows why. It’s a blank run. There are no standout days, no real swells, nothing to recommend. The best you could hope for is a tiny, clean bump on the 15th or 16th, but it’s not worth getting the board wet for. We’ll have to wait for a change in the forecast.
