The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – this outlook for Vouliagmeni is a tough one. We're looking at a full 16-day forecast, but honestly, if you're chasing waves, you're going to be waiting a while. There's a big, empty gap right through from now until the morning of the 17th of September. That's almost five days with absolutely zero swell on the cards.
A tiny pulse finally shows up on Thursday the 17th, but it's barely a whisper. In the morning we're talking about a 0.3ft swell from the south with a period of just 7 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 1, so don't expect anything rideable. The wind is light offshore from the NNE though, which would make it clean, but for a 0.3ft wave, that doesn't matter much.
The afternoon of the 17th offers a glimmer, but it's still tiny. That same 0.3ft south swell, but the period stretches out to 12 seconds, bumping the energy up to... well, 3. Still nothing to get excited about. The saving grace is the wind going glassy from the WNW. It's a beautiful afternoon to be on the water, but not to surf. It's so small and inconsistent it's barely worth wetting a board.
After that, from the morning of the 18th all the way through to the 27th of September, it's another dead zone. Nothing but flat lines and "poor surf conditions" across the board. This is a rare and unfortunate blank run for this area.
So, what's the best on offer? Honestly, there isn't one. If you had to pick a single moment, the Thursday 17th afternoon is the only time the swell direction (S) matches the optimum direction for the break, with glassy wind. But at 0.3ft, it's a non-event. The water is a balmy 79°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least a swim would be nice.
This setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if the wind picks up again, but for us surfers, it's a washout. Forecasts can change, but for now, maybe give the board a rest and go for a coffee.
Rusty.
