The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this outlook is a tough one. We’re looking at Vouliagmeni, and for the next 16 days, there’s just nothing doing. A big, flat gap stretches from now until the end of the month. The only tiny flicker of life shows up on the morning of the 30th of August, but it’s barely a whisper.
So here’s the story. From Friday the 21st of August all the way through to Saturday the 29th of August, the combined wave energy is a flat zero (0) every single session. The wind might be glassy or offshore on plenty of mornings—like the 23rd with a calm, glassy start, or the 24th with a solid 12 mph offshore from the NNW—but without any swell to push, it’s just a lake. The water temperature is sitting at 80°F, and that’s about a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, but that doesn’t help us get a wave.
Then on Sunday the 30th of August, we finally see a glimmer. A tiny 0.7 ft swell from the south shows up in the morning, with a period of 5 seconds and combined energy of just 2 (very weak). The wind is glassy from the NNW at 3 mph. Look, that’s not a surfable wave for anyone except maybe a total beginner on a foamie, and even then it’s a stretch. Vouliagmeni is an inconsistent, exposed spot that needs a proper south swell to work, and this isn’t it. The break is best for beginners, but with no power, there’s nothing to recommend.
After that, from the 31st of August right through to the 5th of September, it’s back to zero energy. Plenty of offshore winds again—like the 31st with a 12 mph NNE offshore—but it’s all for nothing without a wave.
Bottom line: there are no good surf options across the entire 16-day window. The spot is inconsistent at the best of times, and this blank run is pretty normal for the area. Don’t hold your breath. The forecasts can change, but right now, we’re dry.
Rusty.
