The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – I’ve stared at the charts for Vouliagmeni and the news is not good. We’re looking at a full 16-day run with zero surf on offer. That’s right, a big fat goose egg from now right through to the 9th of September. No swell, no energy, nothing. The combined energy of all swells directed here is a flat zero (0) for the entire period. It’s a dead calm ocean.
The first record we get is for Tuesday the 25th of August, and it’s already showing “poor surf conditions” with no swell height, no period, nothing. That sets the tone for the whole outlook. We’ve got a long stretch of clear skies, but with no waves, it’s just a nice day for a swim.
For Vouliagmeni, a beginner-friendly spot that’s inconsistent at the best of times, this is a tough run. The water temperature is sitting at 82°F – that’s 5°F warmer than usual for this time of year, which is very unusual. The water feels like a bath, but you won’t be surfing in it.
The wind does offer some clean windows – we see glassy conditions on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday morning, and a few afternoons later on. There’s also offshore wind on Thursday morning and Sunday morning, giving clean conditions. But without a single wave to ride, that clean surface is just a taunt. There’s a period of fresh offshore breezes up to 19 mph on Saturday the 29th, but again, no swell to work with.
This is a classic blank run for the area. When it’s this flat, it’s normal. The consolation is that forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this poor forever. But for now, leave your board at home. There is nothing to recommend here.
