The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty. Let me tell you straight up, the outlook for the next couple of weeks is heartbreaking. We’re looking at a massive, frustrating dry spell across the entire region.
Honestly, for the first 13 days, from Tuesday the 28th of July right through to Monday the 10th of August, there’s absolutely nothing on the table. The combined energy is sitting at zero (0). It’s a total flat spell. The wind is mostly offshore, which is a hell of a tease, but without any swell to push through, it’s just a cruel joke. You’ll see clean, glassy conditions, a few times with that fresh offshore breeze, but it’s all for nothing. The water is about average for this time of year, so the only thing to do is enjoy a swim.
We finally see a tiny flicker of life on Tuesday the 11th of August. The afternoon brings a whisper of a wave: a 1ft south swell, but with a period of only 2 seconds. That’s not a wave, it’s a ripple. The combined energy is a pathetic 1. It’s technically surfable for a beginner at Vouliagmeni, but it’s going to be inconsistent and, honestly, more frustrating than fun. The wind will be a fresh offshore breeze, so it’ll be clean, but there’s just no power. The next morning, the 12th, it’s back to flat again.
So, to sum it up: there are no standouts here. The whole 16-day window is a bust. The only tiny, tiny window is that Tuesday afternoon, but it’s barely worth getting the board wet for. This kind of blank run is pretty normal for the area, so don’t let it get you down. Forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a no-go.
Rusty.
