The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you—this 16-day window for Vouliagmeni is a tough one to call surf on. There’s a whole lot of flat, clean conditions, but the ocean is just not doing its job. If you’re looking for a wave, you’re going to be waiting a long time.
The first bit of real swell we see is on the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd. It’s a tiny pulse, just 0.7 ft from the south, with a period of only 3 seconds. That’s basically a lake ripple. The combined energy is a measly 1 (weak). It’s glassy, sure, but that’s a day for a swim, not a surf. The next flicker comes on Saturday, July 25th morning: a 1.0 ft south swell with a 5-second period, and a combined energy of 5 (still weak). Offshore winds from the north at 22 mph will keep it clean, but there’s just no power in the water. That’s it for the whole 16 days—those two tiny, tiny windows.
The rest of the period is a flat desert. Long gaps of nothing. From the afternoon of July 25th right through to August 1st, there’s zero wave energy recorded. Zilch. So if you’re dreaming of a wave, you’re out of luck.
The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is a solid 4° warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s notably warm, so the dip is nice, but it doesn’t help the surf.
Given the complete lack of consistent swell, there’s nothing to recommend. Even the best wind days—like the glassy Sunday afternoon of July 19th or the glassy morning of July 27th—are all flat. For a spot like Vouliagmeni that’s inconsistent anyway, this blank run is pretty normal for the area. Don’t hold your breath. The forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a no-go.
