The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for our little patch. I gotta tell ya straight up – this is gonna be one of those tough stretches where you might wanna keep the board in the bag and focus on something else. We’re lookin’ at a full 16-day window and there’s just not a wave to be had. Not one. The swell energy is flatlining at a big fat zero (0) across the board.
Starting on Friday the 24th of July, we’ve got nothing. Clear skies, sure, but the sea’s got nothin’ to offer. It’s all “poor surf conditions” right through. We cruise through the weekend of the 25th and 26th – still flat. The wind does turn glassy and offshore at times, but you can’t paddle a ripple. Monday the 27th, Tuesday the 28th, Wednesday the 29th… same story. Some nice clean conditions with light breezes and even glassy patches, especially on the mornings of the 27th and 28th, but without swell, the ocean’s just a bathtub. The water’s runnin’ warm – 81°F – which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so it’d be a nice swim, but that’s about it.
By Thursday the 30th, we get some serious offshore wind, 19 to 25 mph, blasting the surface clean. That sounds like a surfer’s dream, but with zero swell it’s just an offshore breeze over a flat sea. Same story all the way into the first week of August – Friday 31st, Saturday 1st, Sunday 2nd, Monday 3rd, Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th, Friday 7th, and finally Saturday 8th. Plenty of offshore and cross-offshore winds, moderate to fresh breezes, and even a glassy finish on Saturday afternoon. But there is no wave energy, no height, no period – zilch.
The only break in the guidance is Vouliagmeni. It’s an exposed break that likes south swell, but the summer pattern has just shut it off completely. Even for a beginner spot that’s sometimes inconsistent, this is a dry spell. No standout days. No best options. If you’re a local, you know this area can go quiet. This is one of those stretches. The good news is, forecasts can always flick a switch – you just never know when the next pulse shows up. But for now, it’s all paddleboard flatness.
So, I’d say give the board a wax and a rest. The ocean’s off duty.
