The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a grim outlook for Vouliagmeni. We’re looking at a 16-day stretch with hardly a ripple worth paddling for. The whole period is a write-off for any decent surf, so don’t bother waxing up just yet.
The first potential surf shows up on Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, but it’s a sad little 1ft Easterly windswell with a period of only 3 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 1 (1), so there’s next to no power. The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze, which is about the only positive, but with such tiny, weak waves, it’s a beginner-only session for the inconsistent break. The water is a touch warmer than normal at 79°, but that’s about the only good news.
After that, it’s a long, dry gap. From July 15th right through to the end of the month, there’s simply no swell of any consequence. The sea goes flat, with the guidance showing zero energy for days on end. There are some nice clean mornings with offshore winds, especially on the 16th, 17th, and 18th, but without any waves, it’s just a calm day at the beach. The situation is the same all the way through to July 29th – plenty of offshore breezes, but nothing to ride.
To be honest, this stretch looks more interesting for a kite surfer if any wind picks up, but for a paddle surfer, it’s a total bust. Vouliagmeni is an inconsistent spot to begin with, and this run of flat conditions is pretty normal for the area during this time. Don’t lose hope, though; forecasts can change, and it tends not to stay this poor for long.
So, for now, leave the board in the car and go for a swim. The water is warm, but the surf is dead.
