The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it.
Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day window, it's a tough stretch for us. The swell is basically non-existent for most of it, and we're staring down a long run of flat, clean conditions. There's only one tiny window where surf might even be worth mentioning, and even then, it's a stretch.
For the first week and a half, from now through to the 10th of September, it's a total write-off. Wave energy is sitting at zero across the board. The water is warm, about 80.4°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but without any swell, that doesn't help us. We get some nice glassy mornings on the 6th and 10th, but it's just flat water.
There's a brief flicker of life on the morning of Friday, the 11th of September. We see a tiny 1.3ft swell from the south, with a short period of 5 seconds. The energy is weak. The wind is a clean cross-off from the ENE, so it would be glassy. But that's it. A tiny, weak wave for a beginner session if you're desperate. The afternoon gets messy with a cross-onshore wind.
After that? It's right back to zero. The 12th is glassy but flat. The 13th has a tiny 0.7ft, 3-second windswell, but it's blown out by strong offshore winds. The rest of the period up to the 18th of September is just flat with clean offshore winds, which is great for the soul but terrible for surfing.
The only spot we have to talk about is Vouliagmeni. It's an inconsistent, exposed beginner break that rarely has a proper wave. It needs a south swell to work, and we just don't have one of any substance. Given the tiny, weak swell and the clean, windy conditions, this setup actually looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, the bottom line: there are no good surf options in this 16-day window. It's a blank run, which is more normal for this area during this time of year. Don't hold your breath. Forecasts can change, but right now, the only thing on offer is a tan.
