The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for our local stretch.
Well, I gotta be straight with you – this is one of those outlooks where you might wanna take up a new hobby for a while. From now all the way through to the morning of Friday the 11th of September, there’s absolutely nothing doing. That’s a solid stretch of over a week and a half with no surf worth mentioning. The ocean’s basically flat, so don’t bother dragging your board down to Vouliagmeni.
Now, the water temp is sitting at 81°, which is a good 4° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s properly notable, so at least if you’re going for a swim it’ll feel like a bath.
We do finally see a little pulse appear on Friday the 11th of September. In the morning, a tiny 1ft swell rolls in from the S with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy is weak at just 4, so it’s barely a ripple. Winds are offshore from the N at 16 mph, so the surface will be clean, but honestly, there’s just not enough water moving to call it surfing. That afternoon the swell direction swings to the SSW with a bit more height at 1ft, but the period drops to 3 seconds and the wind cranks up to a near gale from the NNE at 31 mph – that’s more of a kitesurfing setup than a paddle surfer’s dream. Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th see even less: 0.7ft to 1ft swells with short periods, and strong offshore winds that will keep it clean but gutless.
Bottom line: there’s no standout session in this 16-day window. Vouliagmeni is an inconsistent spot anyway, and with no real energy on the cards, you’re better off waiting for the next forecast update. It can’t stay this flat forever.
