The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days at Lygia reef (Brazil) are a bust. It’s a tough one to write, but I’ve got to call it like I see it. There’s simply no good surf on offer. The entire outlook is packed with "poor surf conditions" from start to finish. That’s a long stretch with nothing to get excited about.
The water temperature is sitting at 81°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s the only thing that’s slightly out of the ordinary.
We’ve got a few days where the wind lays down glassy in the mornings – like Friday the 7th (0.7 ft from the WSW, period 5 seconds) and Saturday the 8th (1.0 ft from the WNW, period 4 seconds) – but the swell is just too small and weak. The combined energy barely registers (2 and 3). It’s barely a ripple. The same story repeats: tiny 1.0 ft to 1 ft waves, short periods under 8 seconds, and mostly cross-onshore winds in the afternoons messing up the surface.
The best-looking combo on paper might be Monday morning, the 10th of August: clear skies, a light ENE cross-off breeze at 6 mph, and 1 ft from the NW with a 5-second period. Clean conditions, but again, the energy is just 7. It’s marginal.
Honestly, this reef is inconsistent as it is, and when it’s flat, it’s flat. There’s no standout day, no window for a proper session. This blank run is just the way it goes sometimes for this area. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home.
Rusty.
