Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what Trigg Beach has in store for us over the next couple of weeks in feet and miles per hour.
We’re starting off slow. The first real chance to get wet is Saturday, July 4th, but it’s a bit of a dog. The morning brings a 5ft swell from the SW with a long 16-second period – plenty of energy in the water (1794), but it’s blown out by a NE cross-off at 15 mph. Water temp is 65°, which is nearly 3° colder than normal for the season. It’s one of those days you’re better off having a coffee and watching. The afternoon lightens up a bit but still nothing special.
Sunday the 5th is a total loss – cross and cross-on winds with the swell fading. That drags into Monday the 6th.
Then, boom. Monday the 6th fires up. Swell rises to 8ft from the WSW with a 16-second period, energy at 2895. A SSE cross-off at 9 mph keeps the surface clean. This is real groundswell – long, powerful lines. It’s for experienced surfers only; beginners should stay on the beach. The afternoon holds just as strong.
Tuesday the 7th is the real standout. Morning is dead glassy – wind barely a whisper at 3 mph – with 8ft of clean WSW swell at 15 seconds. Combined energy is 3130. This is a morning to remember. But it’s big, and it’s expert-level only. Expect a decent crowd here at Trigg (Perth) on a day like this, so get there early.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are average. Swell holds around 6ft to 8ft, but the wind goes cross and onshore, making things messy. Surfable, but not memorable.
Friday the 10th is a disaster. Strong SW winds up to 22 mph, a short, lumpy 10ft swell with a period of just 8 seconds. That’s kite-surfing conditions, not paddle surfing. Hard pass.
Into the second week, July 11th to 13th gives us some cleaner windows. Saturday the 11th has 8ft and a cross-off – clean but punchy. Sunday the 12th drops to 5ft with an offshore Easterly at 6 mph – a beautiful, clean morning for a funboard or longboard. Monday the 13th is another gem: clear skies, light offshore ENE wind at 6 mph, and a solid 6ft SW groundswell at 16 seconds. Energy at 1652 – that’s a sweet spot for intermediates and above.
From the 14th onward, it’s mostly cross and onshore winds, with a few clean moments like the 17th when we get a glassy 3ft afternoon. Late in the period, July 18th and 19th, a big pulse of 10ft to 12ft swell rolls in, but it’s short period (9 seconds) and mostly onshore – more for the kite surfers and the brave.
Best day of the whole run is Tuesday the 7th. If you can’t make that, Monday the 13th is your next best bet with clean offshore winds and solid size.
Stay salty.
Rusty.
