The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here.

Alright, we’ve got a solid 16-day window for Trigg Beach, and it’s looking like a proper run of southwest groundswell. The water’s sitting at 63°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so don’t forget the neoprene. We’re talking a consistent, powerful swell train that’s going to hang around, but the wind is the real player here – you’ll need to pick your windows.

The standout is hands down Thursday morning, the 20th of August. We’ve got a solid 10ft of swell piling in from the WSW, with a period of 16 seconds – that’s proper groundswell with heaps of energy (4242). The wind is glassy, light from the SE, so it’s going to be clean as a whistle. This is for experienced surfers, and it’s going to be a ripper session. The break is a beach and point, so with that long period, it’ll be lining up nicely on the point. Crowds are often here, so expect company.

The other one to circle is Friday morning, the 21st of August. The swell drops a touch to 8ft, but it’s still a solid 15-second period (2535), and the wind is offshore from the E. That’s clean, powerful surf for the experienced crew. The energy is still strong, and it’ll be a much better bet than the afternoon when the seabreeze kicks in.

The first week or so is a bit of a mixed bag. Wednesday afternoon the 19th is a write-off – cross-onshore wind and lumpy conditions. Thursday morning is the gold, but Thursday afternoon goes to crap with a strong S wind. Friday morning is another winner, but the afternoon gets cross-choppy. Saturday morning the 22nd is worth a look with clean conditions and a 7ft, 17-second swell (2522), but the afternoon gets blown out. Sunday the 23rd is a write-off with strong cross-winds.

We’ve got a gap in the middle of the week. By Monday the 24th morning, the offshore wind is back, and we’ve got a 7ft, 14-second swell (1538) – clean and solid. Tuesday the 25th drops off significantly, and by Wednesday the 26th, a new pulse of 10ft to 12ft comes in, but the wind is onshore and choppy, so it’s a messy one.

Looking into the second week, it’s promising but less certain. Thursday the 27th morning has a 8ft, 16-second swell (3102) with a cross-off wind, but it’s strong. The weekend of the 30th and 31st of August sees another run of solid 7ft to 7ft swell (3237 and 2507) with light winds – keep an eye on it. And into September, the 2nd of September morning is shaping up with a 7ft, 13-second swell and offshore E wind – clean and fun.

If you’re looking for the absolute best, don’t miss Thursday morning the 20th of August. The 24th of August morning is also a solid, clean option. For the rest, it’s about picking the morning windows and avoiding the afternoon seabreezes.

Rusty.
