Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trigg Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s coming our way at Trigg Beach. We’ve got a bit of a mixed bag over the next two and a bit weeks, but there are a couple of windows that should get you excited. Let’s break it down.
The water’s sitting at about 64° right now, which is a bit colder than we’d normally expect for this time of year, so don’t forget that extra layer.
We kick off with potential on Monday the 13th of July. It’s not a standout by any means, but there’s a 7ft SW groundswell running, with a very long 16-second period. That kind of period means proper energy, but it can make beach breaks a bit straight. The wind is a light cross from the SSW at 6 mph, and the combined energy is moderate (2386). It’s a marginal call, but worth a look if you’re keen.
The first real highlight comes in on Tuesday the 14th. The morning has a 7ft WSW swell with a 15-second period and a clean cross-off breeze from the ENE at 12 mph. The afternoon, though, is the one to aim for. The same 7ft WSW swell, but the wind swings to a gentle offshore from the ENE at 9 mph. Combined energy is still strong (1652), and it’s going to be clean as a whistle. This is your best bet for some quality turns on the point.
Wednesday the 15th sees the swell drop a touch, and the wind gets messy. The morning has a 5ft WSW swell with a strong N wind at 16 mph, and the afternoon turns cross-on with a longer 17-second period. The setup is looking more marginal, so don’t expect too much.
The rest of that week and into the weekend gets pretty average. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are a write-off with onshore winds and lumpy conditions. Saturday the 18th sees a massive 12ft to 13ft WSW swell pumping in, with combined energy through the roof (6656 and 8002). That’s expert-only territory – way too big for Trigg’s setup – and the wind is onshore. This is more of a show than a go. Sunday the 19th is still blown out.
We hit another rough patch from Monday the 20th through to Wednesday the 22nd, with strong winds and poor conditions. There’s a short window on Wednesday morning the 22nd with a clean 6ft cross-off breeze, but it’s only a small window.
Now, here comes the next proper standout. It’s a bit further out, so keep an eye on the forecasts, but Thursday the 23rd of July afternoon is looking magic. The swell drops to a 6ft WSW with a stunning 18-second period (very long period groundswell), combined energy is strong (2332), and the wind goes glassy from the NE at 0 mph. Flat, clean, and beautiful. The point should be working a treat.
Friday the 24th continues the run. Morning has a 7ft WSW swell (15-second period) with a light cross-off from the NE at 6 mph, and the afternoon holds at 7ft with a slight cross-off. Both windows rate well, with combined energy in the 2000s. This is a solid two-day window for experienced surfers.
After that, the weekend of the 25th and 26th fades out with smaller swell and onshore winds again, leading into a very poor final run of the outlook from the 27th and 28th of July with strong, messy winds. There’s nothing worth chasing there.
So overall, the pick of the period is a toss-up between Tuesday afternoon the 14th for the clean offshore conditions and that solid 7ft WSW swell, and Thursday afternoon the 23rd for the glassy, long-period groundswell. If you’ve got to choose one, the 23rd has that magic window. The 24th is also well worth a paddle.
For the rest, it’s a lot of average to poor conditions, with that huge swell on the 18th being one for the spectators.
Stay safe, keep an eye on the forecasts, and I’ll catch you in the water.
