The Lowdown

G’day, Rusty here. Looks like we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming up at Trigg Beach over the next couple of weeks. The surf is going to be sizeable at times, but the wind is gonna be the main player – we’ll have some proper clean windows, but also some real rubbish in between. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The first few days are a write-off, honestly. Saturday the 18th is a no-go – that’s a solid 12 ft to 13 ft of powerful WSW groundswell with a 15-second period, but the wind is howling onshore at 19 mph, and the combined energy reading is a massive 4555 to 6696. It’s way too big and messy. Sunday the 19th still has an 8 ft swell on the morning, but the wind is onshore and the conditions are pretty junky.

Now, Monday the 20th is where it starts to look interesting. The morning session is the pick of the early week. The swell drops to a clean 5 ft from the WSW with a 12-second period, and the wind is a dead calm glass-off from the NE. The combined energy is a moderate 797, and it’s going to be glassy perfection. That’s your window for a clean, fun wave.

The pattern holds through the middle of the week. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings have 5 ft to 5 ft of SW swell, with light cross-off winds from the ESE, giving you clean conditions. The energy is moderate, ranging from 777 to 828. Thursday the 23rd is another solid morning option, with 5 ft of SW swell and a light cross-off from the ENE. It’s clean, consistent, and the crowds are likely, but it’s worth it for the quality.

Friday the 24th is still okay, with 4 ft of WSW swell and a clean morning, but the energy is dropping to 621. The weekend of the 25th and 26th is a bit of a washout again – Saturday has onshore wind and poor surf, but Sunday the 26th is a real standout if you’re keen. The swell is 4 ft but the period is a very long 19 seconds from the WSW, and the combined energy jumps to 1554. The wind is a light cross-off from the ESE, making it clean. Because it’s such a long period for that size, it’s going to be a bit tricky at the beach break – it might be better further along the point, but it’s excellent for experienced surfers.

Monday the 27th is another beauty. The morning is glassy with a 6 ft WSW swell, a 16-second period, and a combined energy of 1479. The wind is a light glass-off from the NE. This is your best call for the week – clean, punchy, and a proper session.

The end of the month and into the start of August has some real potential. Wednesday the 29th morning has a 7 ft WSW swell with an 18-second period and a massive 3884 energy. It’s clean and glassy, but at that size, it’s only for the experienced crew. Thursday the 30th morning is similar, with 7 ft and clean cross-off winds. Then Friday the 31st is a cracker for the afternoon – 6 ft of WSW swell with a 19-second period, a strong 16 mph offshore breeze from the ENE, and a combined energy of 3145. That’s a proper, powerful, clean groundswell day.

Sunday the 2nd of August finishes the run with a clean 5 ft, but the energy is dropping.

Overall, the standout windows are Monday 20th morning for a clean, fun session, and Monday 27th morning for a bit more power and perfection. The big stuff on the 29th and 31st is for the experienced only, but it’ll be epic.

Rusty.
