Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here, looking at the surf ahead for the next couple of weeks. Things start off a bit shaky, but we've got some solid windows as long as you pick your sessions.
We open with Tuesday afternoon at Trigg Beach being a write-off for any decent paddle. The waves are a messy 8 ft from the WSW but that 9 mph cross-on breeze is making it choppy and ugly. The water is sitting at 65°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, so you’ll want the good rubber. The combined energy is pumping at 2486 but without clean conditions, it’s wasted power.
Now, Wednesday the 8th is where we start to see a turnaround, especially the morning. It’s clean with a light NNE cross-off breeze and a 5 ft WSW groundswell (15-second period). The energy is strong at 2107, and that clean face will make the paddle out easier with longer gaps between sets. Afternoon looks messy again with a cross-on.
The standout session of the whole forecast? That’s got to be Thursday morning, July 9th. We’re looking at a glassy 8 ft swell out of the WSW. That’s a fair chunk of water—this one is for experienced surfers—but with zero wind, the face will be as smooth as silk. The energy hits 2322, and you’ll get some proper walls. The period is 15 seconds, so expect some grunt but also those longer lulls. Get out early.
After that, we’ve got a run of smaller but clean mornings. Friday morning the 10th sees a drop to 5 ft, but with a SE cross-off it’s clean and rideable (energy 781). Saturday morning the 11th is clean with offshore winds but only 4 ft (460 energy). Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th see the swell pick back up with clean offshore or cross-off winds—Monday morning specifically showing 7 ft WSW swell (2180 energy) and light offshore breeze. That'll be another solid session for those with the skills.
We hit a rough patch mid-week. Wednesday the 15th afternoon is a total mess with rain and a 19 mph cross-on, and Thursday the 16th brings more rain with a 10 ft swell and onshore winds—that’s big, messy, and only for the hardcore or the kite crew. Friday the 17th is also blown out with 10 ft waves and rain. Surf quality is poor.
The light at the end of the tunnel comes Saturday the 18th. The morning session is clean with a 7 ft WSW swell (1638 energy) and a cross-off breeze. Not the best period, but solid waves. The afternoon is even cleaner and smaller at 6 ft (1110 energy). After that, the last few days from the 19th to the 22nd settle into a smaller, clean pattern with offshore winds and waves around 4 ft to 4 ft. Wednesday the 22nd morning looks particularly tidy with 4 ft waves, a period of 15 seconds, and gentle offshore wind (750 energy). It won’t be huge, but it’ll be fun.
There are no long gaps of dead-flat water here, just a few days of rough conditions mid-forecast. The call is simple: Thursday morning July 9th is the pick of the bunch, with Monday the 13th morning a close second. After that, chase the clean morning windows later in the second week.
Rusty.
