Table - best surf conditions forecast for Trigg Beach over the next 16 days.
Righto folks, Rusty here. I've had a good look at what's coming for Trigg Beach, and let me tell ya, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag—some absolute gems, and some real dog days you wouldn't wanna paddle out in. The water's sitting at about 64°, which is a fair bit colder than usual for this time of year, so you'll be wanting the hooded rashie or a thin spring suit if you're heading out.
The overall pattern is a slow build from smallish, clean conditions this weekend into a run of proper, solid groundswell early next week. That's the clear standout. Then it gets a bit wild and messy towards the end of the second week with a monster swell, before tapering off into some smaller, cleaner possibilities again right at the end of the forecast window. There's a big gap of poor or blown-out conditions from the 15th of July right through to the morning of the 23rd.
Let's break it down.
It starts on Friday the 10th of July with a weak, cross-shore chop. Not worth getting wet. Saturday the 11th though, that's where we start. A clean 4ft west-southwest swell with a light offshore breeze from the east. It's not huge, but it'll be clean and fun on the point.
The real highlight is Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th. Sunday morning you've got a clean 7ft southwest groundswell with a lovely 15-second period, light cross-offshore wind. The combined energy is strong (1788). This is excellent surf for the experienced crew. Then Monday morning tops it—a solid 8ft southwest groundswell, long 17-second period, and a clean offshore east-southeast wind. The energy is very strong (2936). This is the standout window. It's a bit big for beginners, but for anyone with some time in the water, it'll be fantastic. The long period means look for it to wrap nicely around the point rather than break too straight on the beach.
Tuesday the 14th carries on the excellence—mornings with a clean 7ft west-southwest swell and a light offshore, with very strong energy (1970). You get a second session in the afternoon too, with a 7ft swell and clean conditions.
Then it all goes pear-shaped. From Wednesday the 15th, the wind kicks in and the quality drops off a cliff. A lot of poor surf or onshore slop all the way through to the morning of the 23rd of July. There's a massive spike on the 18th of July with a 15ft to 16ft swell from a big storm, but it's accompanied by strong to fresh onshore winds. That's not surf, that's a washing machine. Would be more interesting for the kite surfers than paddle surfing.
After a long run of junk, we get a couple more decent windows. On Thursday the 23rd, there's a clean 5ft west-southwest swell with a light cross-offshore from the north-east—looks promising for a morning session. Then the real capper is Friday the 24th of July. A clean 6ft west-southwest swell with a glassy offshore from the east (energy 1344). It's another excellent call for experienced surfers. Saturday the 25th sees the size jump back up to 10ft with a very long period, but an onshore flow is expected, so it won't be as clean.
The Standout: Without a doubt, the morning sessions on Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th are the pick of the whole forecast. Solid, clean swell with light winds and heaps of energy. After that, the Friday the 24th of July is the next best bet for a clean, punchy session.
Crowds at Trigg are listed as 'often', but on the real good days, you can expect plenty of company.
Rusty out.
