The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Trigg Beach.

First up, the water’s a bit nippy at 64°, which is about 2° colder than we’d usually expect for this time of year. Bit of a chill in the air, but nothing a good wetsuit won’t sort out.

Right now, things are a bit flat and messy. The next few days are a write-off, really. Sunday the 23rd is a no-go with that 5ft to 5ft WSW swell getting chopped up by a cross-shore breeze. Not worth getting wet.

Monday the 24th is where it starts to get interesting. Glassy conditions early on the 24th with a clean 7ft WSW swell and a 14-second period – that’s quality groundswell energy. The combined energy is a solid 1848, so there’s plenty of grunt. This is the standout session for the week, but it’s a bit meaty for beginners at 7ft. Experienced surfers are going to have a blast. The wind is glassy, so expect some clean, lined-up waves.

Tuesday the 25th is a mess again with onshore winds and choppy conditions, so give it a miss.

Now, Wednesday the 26th... we’ve got a proper big swell coming in, 12ft to 13ft from the WSW with a long 18 to 19-second period. That’s a massive groundswell. The energy numbers are huge (9878 and 8995), but honestly, this is too big for Trigg Beach. It’s a beach-and-point setup, and with that kind of size on a long period, it’s going to be a washing machine. Leave this one for the experts only, and even then, it’s a gamble. The wind is favorable, but the swell is just too much.

Thursday the 27th drops back to a more manageable 8ft to 10ft, but the wind is strong and cross-off. Clean faces, but that 16 mph wind will make it a bit tricky. Still, if you’re experienced, you’ll find something.

Friday the 28th is a sneaky good one. The wind swings offshore from the east, blowing at 16 to 22 mph. That’s fresh and clean. The swell drops to 5ft to 6ft, so it’s smaller, but the offshore wind will keep it glassy. The energy is moderate (941 to 645), but with a 12 to 13-second period, it’ll have some push. This is a great option for intermediates. Crowds are often here, so expect some company.

The weekend into the start of the next week (29th August to 2nd September) is a bit up and down. The swell is consistent, but the wind keeps switching. There’s a window on the 30th with a 7ft WSW swell, but the wind is cross-on, so it’ll be a bit bumpy. Not the best.

Saturday the 5th of September is another one to watch out for. A glassy morning, 10ft swell from the WSW with a shorter 11-second period. That’s a bit of a lumpy period, but with glassy conditions and high energy (3193), it’s a solid option for experienced surfers.

After that, we’re looking at the 7th of September with another 13ft to 15ft swell, but again, too big for Trigg.

Overall, the real standout is Monday the 24th with those clean, glassy conditions and a solid 7ft groundswell. Friday the 28th is a close second with that offshore wind offering clean, smaller waves for the masses. The big swells on the 26th and 7th are for experts only, or maybe a kite session if you’re into that. The water is a touch colder than normal, but nothing too wild.

Stay wet, stay stoked.
