The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Trigg Beach has got cookin' for us over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we've got a bit of a slow start, but things are gonna build. Monday the 20th is about as good as it gets right now, but only for the early birds. The morning is glassy, dead calm, with a clean 5ft swell rolling in from the WSW at 13 seconds. The water is sitting at 64°F, which is a bit colder than what we're used to for this time of year, so you might want an extra layer. That morning session on Monday is the standout for the first week – the energy is moderate (822) and the conditions are perfect. The afternoon goes a bit mushy with a cross-onshore wind, so don't sleep in.
Tuesday the 21st still has some clean lines in the morning with a light cross-offshore breeze and a 5ft SW swell. Wednesday the 22nd is where it gets interesting. The morning is clean with offshore winds, but the real magic is Wednesday afternoon. We’re looking at a 5ft SW swell with a 16-second period – that's proper groundswell energy. The combined energy jumps right up to 1630, and it's blowing offshore and clean. That's the best session of the first week if you can get out there.
Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th hold some clean, smaller waves in the mornings, around 5ft and 3ft respectively, but the energy drops off. Saturday the 25th is a write-off – the wind swings cross-on and the quality goes out the window.
Now, hold onto your board, because we've got a big change coming. Sunday the 26th sees a jump to 8ft, but it's a short-period, messy windswell with a cross-chop. Not a good look.
Monday the 27th is a big one. We’re talking an 12ft SW swell with a 13-second period and a combined energy of 3853. The wind is offshore, but honestly, that's way too much juice for Trigg. This is strictly for the experts, and I mean the proper ones. The setup is going to be a washing machine. After that, it settles down through the 28th and 29th with some cleaner, smaller offshore swells in the 5ft to 5ft range, but the wind gets a bit strong.
The second week, from the 30th of July onwards, is a real mixed bag with a lot of wind. The swell sticks around between 2ft and 5ft, but the wind is howling from the north-northeast most of the time. The 31st of July has strong breezes that will trash the surface. The 1st of August is a washout with rain and cross-onshore winds.
August 4th sees another massive pulse – 13ft to 15ft from the WSW. That's insane energy (5297) but it's far too big for Trigg. That's a life-risking session, not a fun one.
So, to wrap it all up: the clear standouts are Monday morning the 20th and Wednesday afternoon the 22nd. If you're an experienced surfer, the 27th will be a challenge, but the rest of the window is mostly a battle with the wind. It's not going to be a classic run, but those two windows are pure gold.
Rusty.
