The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. First up, Trigg Beach is the only game in town on the finder, and it’s looking like a proper mixed bag of a stretch. The water’s sitting at 64°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want the good rubber on.
The window opens on Wednesday morning, the 19th, but it’s a bit of a tease. We’ve got 8ft of swell out of the WSW with a 15-second period, and the energy is moderate at 2899. But it’s onshore and showery, so it’s gonna be a messy one. Not the day to be a hero. The afternoon bumps up to 10ft but it’s still cross-onshore, so the quality is just as questionable.
Thursday the 20th is where things start to get interesting. The morning is the real standout of this first week. Glassy conditions with a light SE breeze, and the swell is a solid 10ft from the WSW with a 16-second period. Combined energy is strong at 4242. This is powerful, clean surf for the experienced crew. A proper morning session. The afternoon gets chopped up by a southerly breeze, so make the most of the early hours.
Friday the 21st is another good look. Offshore E wind, 8ft of WSW swell, and a 15-second period. Energy is moderate at 2535. Clean lines, decent size. Another good one for the intermediate surfer who wants a piece of it. Afternoon gets cross-shore, so again, mornings are your friend.
Saturday and Sunday drift into average territory. Still rideable, but the wind is all over the place, and the swell drops a touch. Saturday morning has a 17-second period but a light cross-shore, and Sunday gets a bit bumpy. Not bad, but not the standouts.
Monday the 24th is a sneaky good one. Clean offshore ENE wind, 7ft of WSW swell with a 14-second period. It’s a bit smaller, but it’ll be super clean and fun for the intermediates. A good day to work on your turns.
Then the window goes a bit flat. Tuesday the 25th is poor, with small, choppy waves. The energy drops right off, down to around 496. Not worth paddling out.
Now, here’s the big one. Wednesday the 26th is a different beast entirely. The swell just jacks up to 12ft from the WSW with a 17-second period, and the energy is very strong at 6284. But here’s the catch—it’s predicted to be too big for the break. This is a warning. Unless you are a certified expert and know this spot intimately, give it a wide berth. This is one for the chargers and maybe the tow crew.
Thursday the 27th pulls it back a bit and looks fantastic. 8ft of swell, offshore ESE wind, and a 15-second period. Clean and powerful. Another standout for the experienced surfer. Friday the 28th backs off in size, but it’s still clean with offshore winds, just a bit smaller.
The weekend of the 29th-30th sees the swell bottom out and then rebuild. Saturday is small and weak, but Sunday the 30th has a very long-period swell (20 seconds) filling in, bringing 5ft in the morning, building to 8ft by the afternoon with onshore rain. That long period might make it a bit weird at the beach breaks, but there could be some beautiful, walled-up waves on the point. It’s promising but less certain this far out.
The final run into September has a few more days of 6-to-7-foot swell, but the winds are mostly cross or onshore, so it won't be great. There is nothing that screams "drop everything and go" beyond that Thursday the 27th.
So, to cut it short: The best calls for the experienced surfer are the glassy mornings of Thursday 20th and Thursday 27th. Friday 21st and Monday 24th are the best bets for the solid intermediate. And Wednesday the 26th? Just watch from the carpark.
Rusty out.
