The Lowdown
Alright, let's get real about 13th Street. The next 16 days are looking flat-out poor. The water's a warm 72°F, which is way warmer than usual for this time of year, but that's the only good news.
We kick off Monday, 7th September, with a tiny 1.0ft SW swell and a 19-second period. That's a super long period groundswell, which can mean beautiful lines, but at this size, it's barely a ripple. The combined energy is a measly 70, so it's weak. The wind is a light cross-shore, but the surf is just poor. We're looking at days of this. The swell bumps up a touch on Tuesday morning, 8th September, to 3ft from the SSW, with a period of 10 seconds. The energy jumps to 400 (moderate), and the wind is light. But the forecast still calls it "marginal" at best. It's just not coming together.
The pattern is the same for the entire week and into the next. We see a persistent cross-on or onshore breeze, mostly from the W or WSW, with a few shifts to the S. The height stays stubbornly between 1ft and 3ft, and the periods are either very long (15-19 seconds) or short (7-8 seconds). The energy readings are moderate, often in the 200-400 range, but the wind and wave quality reports are consistently "poor" or "marginal." There's a stretch from Wednesday, 9th September right through to Tuesday, 15th September where it's just one poor surf report after another. It's a blank run, for sure. We get a few "marginal" tags on the mornings of 16th, 17th, and 18th September, with light onshore winds and 2ft swell, but it's still not a recommendation.
This spot is marked as "inconsistent," and this forecast proves it. For an advanced break, the swell is too small and the wind is never truly clean. Honestly, with the persistent cross-onshore wind and small, weak swell, this setup looks more interesting for a kite session than a paddle session. We don't get a single standout, not even a hopeful one. The best you can hope for is a very early morning paddle on a day like Tuesday, 22nd September, when the swell is 3ft from the SW with a 16-second period and light onshore wind, but the forecast still calls it marginal. It's a tough stretch.
