The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the outlook over the next couple of weeks is a tough one to write. We're looking at a long stretch of, well, not much to get excited about. There's a pretty big gap of days with nothing really worth paddling out for.
Let's look at the only spot on the map, 13th Street. The water is sitting at 71° which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so that's a pleasant surprise at least. But for the surf? Not so much. From Thursday the 10th of September right through to the middle of the following week, we've got tiny, messy, onshore slop. The wind is coming out of the south quarter, creating a cross-onshore chop that's just ruining any chance of a decent line. Sizes are tiny, mainly 1 ft to 3 ft, and the wave period is all over the place, but the wind is the killer. Even with a long-period groundswell reaching 16 seconds, the conditions are just "poor surf conditions" with a weak combined swell energy sitting between 141 and 320.
The only time we see a little flicker of hope is around Friday the 18th of September and then again on the morning of Saturday the 19th. Even then, it’s marginal at best – only a score of 1 out of 10, so don’t get your hopes up. The swell is still a tiny 2 ft to 2 ft from the SSW drying to SW with a long period around 18-19 seconds. The energy picks up a bit then, reading 324 and 395, but the real issue is the light onshore wind. There won't be any clean faces, and combined with the small size, it's just not worth the effort for a proper paddle session. Honestly, for most of this run, with the significant onshore wind and poor quality, the beach setup here looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The rest of the forecast is a continuation of the same story. A few marginal windows pop up on the 21st and 22nd of September, but the onshore breeze is too consistent, and the surf quality is still rated as poor. There's no standout day, no real winner. The best we can say is that if you're desperate for a splash in clean water, the temperature is nice, but the waves just aren't cooperating. For now, give it a miss.
