The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – this 16-day stretch for the area around 13th Street is a tough one. We’re looking at a long, dry spell, and honestly, it’s a bit heartbreaking to watch the charts.
The forecast starts with a whole lot of nothing. From Thursday the 23rd of July all the way through to the first week of August, it’s a write-off. The few bits of swell that do show up are small, weak, and almost always ruined by a cross-onshore wind. The only real spike in energy comes around Sunday the 26th of July, with a combined energy of 544, but it’s paired with a cross-on breeze that kills any chance of quality. You’ll be sitting out there on a small, choppy 3ft to 3ft SSW swell, getting frustrated. Not worth the paddle.
The water temperature is sitting at 71°, which is a whopping 5° warmer than usual for this time of year. It feels like a bath out there, but sadly, the waves don't match the warm water.
We then hit another gap. The swell window is almost completely shut, with energy readings dropping into the double digits. The period gets short, and the wind stays on it. This is a real flat spell. It's not until the very end of the outlook, around the 2nd of August, that we see a pulse of energy, but it's already too late. The swell is a short-period 4ft from the SSW, but it's locked in under a cross-on wind, making it messy and unappealing. The combined energy hits 429, but it's rough and raw.
Honestly, there is no standout. No break to highlight. The best you can hope for is a morning session on the 27th of July, but even that's marginal. The 3ft swell is a little better, but the wind is still a cross-on. It’s a long stretch of poor surf, so if you’re looking for a paddle, you might be better off with a different hobby for a few weeks. The forecast can always change, but right now, it’s a tough one to swallow.
Rusty.
