The Lowdown
Right, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what the charts are saying.
It's a pretty quiet stretch ahead, folks. The only spot on the radar is 13th Street, and honestly, it's a tough one to get excited about. This break is rated as an advanced wave, and it's inconsistent, so it needs things to line up perfectly, but the whole 16-day window is looking like one long gap of poor surf conditions. There's nothing happening in the first week that’s worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the winds are either cross-on or onshore, and the energy is weak. We’re talking combined swell energy as low as 70 in places. You just aren't going to find a ride.
The water temperature is sitting at 70°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but with no decent waves, that's a small comfort.
There is a glimmer, way down the track, on the 29th of August. The swell finally bumps up a bit, hitting about 4ft from the SSW with a proper long period of 18 seconds. The combined energy jumps into three digits – 742 – so there's a bit more push. However, the wind is still cross-on, which keeps it from being clean. The forecast only rates it as a marginal surf option. It's just not good enough to call a standout, especially with that long-period groundswell hitting an exposed spot, which can make for a tricky, straight-breaking closeout. Even then, the days after drop back down.
The same goes for the 30th of August, with a similar 4ft SSW swell and a 16-second period, but again the wind is light cross-on.
So, what’s the verdict? There’s no real high point here, nothing to set your watch by. 13th Street is an advanced break, but the conditions are simply not delivering. It’s the kind of blank run that happens in this area.
Stay patient, and keep watching the sky.
