The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let me give it to you straight for this stretch of coast.
Well, I gotta be honest with you, the next couple of weeks are looking pretty darn quiet. The finder is showing basically zero proper surf for the full 16-day run. We’re staring down a long, dry spell. From now, the 11th of August, right through to the 26th, there’s just nothing worth getting wet for in any kind of meaningful way. There are a couple of sessions that might be rideable if you’re truly desperate, but that’s the best I can say.
The Standout (Such As It Is)
If I *had* to pick the least bad window, it would be the very end of the run: the morning of Wednesday, the 26th of August. Even then, it’s a stretch. The swell at 13th Street will be a tiny 2ft from the SSW. The period is a respectable 16 seconds, so there’s some long-period groundswell energy in the water, with a combined energy reading of (396), which is moderate. But the problem is the wind. It’s a light cross-onshore from the SSW, which will put a bit of a crinkle on the face. It would be marginal at best, with questionable tide. The waves will be tiny and weak.
For the rest of the time, forget it. The winds are almost always onshore or cross-onshore, often from the SW or WSW, and the swell heights barely crack 3ft. There is a blip on the 21st of August afternoon where the swell jumps to 4ft from the W, but with a terrible period of only 6 seconds, that’s just wind slop. Combined with the onshore blow, the setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing at that beach-and-reef setup.
Honestly, if you’re not desperate, save your energy. This area is having a proper flat spell, and it’s pretty normal for this spot to have blank runs like this.
Rusty.
