The Lowdown
Right, let’s be honest with you. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty bleak for 13th Street. It’s an advanced spot that’s inconsistent, and this forecast is a long stretch of nothing to get excited about. We’re talking a solid run of poor surf conditions from the start, right through to the end of the month. It’s the kind of run that’s more normal for this area, I’m afraid.
The first real glimmer of anything happens on the morning of July 27th, and even then it’s only a marginal call. You’ve got a 3ft SW swell, but the wind is a light cross-on from the S. The combined energy is moderate (470), but the conditions are still looking messy with a light cross-onshore chop. It’s not a standout, just the least terrible option in a bad bunch.
The only other time the forecast even bothers to lift a finger is on the morning of July 28th. Another 3ft swell, this time from the SSW, with light onshore wind from the SSW. The energy is stronger here (511), but again, the report calls it marginal. The wind is technically onshore, but light, so it *might* be glassy for a bit. Still, a 3ft wave with a 16-second period at a beach break like this will be breaking straight and fat. Not exactly what you’d want to paddle out for.
The water temperature is sitting at 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year. So, if you’re desperate for a float, at least it won’t be cold.
Honestly, don’t hold your breath. The entire 16-day window is a write-off. If you are a local, you know this area can go quiet. It’s a blank run, pure and simple.
