The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight – 13th Street isn’t giving us much to work with over the next 16 days. The whole window is pretty flat, with nothing that really gets the heart pumping. The first few days are just dead – no surf worth paddling out for. You’re looking at a gap of about a week before anything even hints at a wave. The water’s sitting at 69°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but that’s about the only good news.
From Friday 17 July right through to Saturday 25 July morning, it’s all poor surf conditions – tiny swells, mostly cross-onshore or onshore wind, and the energy is weak. Around Saturday 25 July morning, things nudge up just a little: a 2ft SSW swell, period 21 seconds, and combined energy of 743 (moderate). The wind is light from the SSW, so it’s onshore, but light. Still, it’s only marginal – the forecast says “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions.” That’s the best we’ve got. The swell direction is SSW, not the optimum WNW for this spot, so it’s not lining up perfectly. The break is inconsistent and only for advanced surfers, so even if you’re keen, the crowd factor is often there.
The next few days (Sunday 26 July to Tuesday 28 July) see a slow build. Tuesday 28 July morning has the biggest swell of the whole outlook: 4ft SSW, period 17 seconds, combined energy 1066 (strong). Wind is light SW, onshore again. That’s a bit of a lump, but with onshore wind and a period that’s moderate, it’s not going to be clean. The energy is there, but the quality won’t match. After that, it drops off again into the first week of August, with tiny swells and weak energy. No standout days.
If you’re desperate, the best chance is around Tuesday 28 July morning, but only if you’re an expert and can handle inconsistent, onshore slop. Otherwise, this stretch is a write-off. Forecasts can change, but as it stands, 13th Street isn’t worth the drive.
