Table - best surf conditions forecast for 13th Street over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Honestly, it’s a pretty grim outlook for 13th Street. We’ve got a long stretch of nothing worth paddling out for. The first real surf energy we see doesn’t show up until the morning of the 21st of July, and even then, it’s a struggle. The whole period before that is mostly poor surf conditions with small, weak swell and onshore or cross-onshore winds messing things up. There’s a gap of over a week with no real recommendations.
The only spot that might get a look in is 13th Street itself. The water temp is sitting at about 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The best chance, and I mean the only chance that’s a standout, looks like the morning of Tuesday, the 21st of July. The combined swell energy is moderate (402), with a 3ft swell from the SSW at a 16-second period. That’s a long-period groundswell, which means better shaped waves but longer waits between sets. It’s a fairly exposed spot, so it’ll pick up that energy. The wind is light and from the SW, which is offshore, so the surface will be clean. The catch is that 13th Street is an advanced break and inconsistent, so it’s not for everyone, and crowds are likely. For the advanced crew who know the bank, that morning could be the one to aim for.
The rest of the window is a bust. The late afternoon of the 25th of July has a bigger pulse of energy (600) with a 3ft swell from the SW at 20 seconds, but it’s still marked as poor surf conditions. The wind stays onshore, which will chop it up.
For the most part, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, especially on the afternoons when the wind picks up.
Rusty.
