G’day, I’m Rusty, and I’ve been watching this stretch of coast long enough to know when it’s about to switch on. Right now, we’ve got a solid 16-day window ahead, but it’s not a straight line – there’s a bit of a slow start, then a real pulse of energy that’ll get the blood pumping, especially for those who can handle some size.

The first few days are a gentle tease. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th, the swell sits around 3.3ft to 4.3ft from the SSW, with periods dropping from 14 seconds down to 12 seconds. The water’s a warm 86.0°, which is about 1.3° warmer than usual for this time of year – not a massive shift, but noticeable on a still morning. The wind is light and cross-off from the SSE, so the surface stays clean, but the combined energy is only moderate, sitting around 688 on Saturday and dropping to 334 on Sunday. It’s not going to be a waste of time, but you won’t be telling stories about it either.

Monday the 13th nudges up a notch. The swell stays around 3.6ft, still SSW, but the period stretches to 12 seconds in the morning and then jumps to 21 seconds in the afternoon. That long period means the energy is drawn out – sets take their time, but the shape improves. The combined energy climbs to 711 in the afternoon, moderate but solid. The wind stays cross-off, so it’s clean. Not a standout, but a decent low-key session.

Now, Tuesday the 14th – that’s when things get interesting. The swell is 4.3ft from the SSW, but the period is 18 seconds in the morning, dropping to 17 in the afternoon. That’s proper groundswell, and the combined energy jumps to 1232 and then 1246 – strong wave energy. The wind is cross-off, light, and the conditions are clean. This is the first real highlight of the window. It’s excellent for experienced surfers, and the direction is right on the money for the optimum swell direction. Telescopes is a reef, so that long period swell will wrap in nicely. Just know that with that energy, it might be a bit much for beginners.

Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th keep the momentum going. Swell holds around 3.9ft to 4.6ft, period stays at 15 seconds, and the combined energy is still strong – 885 on Wednesday, 669 on Thursday morning. Winds are light and cross-off, keeping it clean. Thursday afternoon gets a bit of a cross-shore bump, so the morning window is the pick.

Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, the swell remains around 3.6ft to 4.3ft, period 14 to 16 seconds, and the energy is moderate to strong. Winds are mostly cross-off, but Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon see some crossing wind ripples, so mornings are the go. The consistency is there, but nothing is screaming “must-surf.”

Then we hit Sunday the 19th. The morning is a bit smaller at 2.3ft, but the period is 19 seconds – very long period. The combined energy is 747, moderate. Then the afternoon is a different beast: 3.9ft, 19 seconds, and the combined energy rockets to 1406 – strong wave energy. The wind is near glassy, with a slight air movement from the SSE. That’s excellent for experienced surfers again. The swell direction has shifted to straight S, which is still a good match. This is another standout session.

Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, the swell builds. Monday morning sees 5.9ft from the SSW, period 16 seconds, combined energy of 1980 – very strong. Winds are cross-off, but the size is pushing into expert territory. Monday afternoon and all of Tuesday hold 5.9ft to 6.2ft, with periods of 15 to 16 seconds, and energy levels between 1443 and 1951. Winds are light and cross-off, even glassy at times. This is the peak of the run – big, powerful, clean swell. If you’re an experienced surfer, this is the week to clear your schedule. The crowds are marked as “sometimes,” so you might have some company, but it won’t be a circus.

Wednesday the 22nd drops back slightly to 4.9ft, period 13 seconds, energy in the 800s – still very good, but more manageable. Thursday the 23rd sees a bit of a drop to 4.3ft, period 10 seconds, which is shorter period, and the morning has a moderate breeze, so it’s a bit less appealing. The afternoon is cleaner.

Friday the 24th, the swell dips to 2.3ft to 2.6ft, but the period is 18 seconds. The morning is a bit windy, but the afternoon with light breeze and 822 energy is a nice, clean, long-period session. Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th are the tail end: 2.6ft to 3.0ft, period 14
