Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming our way for the next couple of weeks.
We've only got one spot in the mix this time: Telescopes. It’s a consistent reef break that handles a solid SW swell, and it’s going to be absolutely pumping for a good stretch. The water is sitting at 86°F, which is about 2°F above the norm for this time of year—nice and warm, nothing too unusual.
The opening call is Friday afternoon, July 3rd. We’re looking at 1.0ft of SSW groundswell, with a long 15-second period and light offshore wind from the east. The energy reading is 568, and the setup is clean. It’s a solid, if modest, start.
Saturday the 4th is where things start to get interesting. The morning brings 4ft of S swell, but the real gem is Saturday afternoon. The wind goes glassy calm, the period jumps to a very long 18 seconds, and the swell settles to a clean 2ft. The energy hits 790. This is prime, glassy reef surfing—long lines, easy paddling.
Sunday the 5th is a standout. Morning is glassy again with 4ft of S swell, but the afternoon is the best of the whole run. We get 5ft of S swell, a 15-second period, and glassy conditions. The energy surges to 1113. This is excellent, powerful surf for experienced surfers. Over 5ft, so it’s a bit much for beginners, but for anyone with a bit of skill, this is the session to circle on the calendar.
Monday the 6th morning is still clean with 4ft and glassy winds, but the afternoon goes south. The wind swings strong cross-onshore from the SSW at 12 mph, turning it choppy and poor.
Tuesday the 7th morning rebounds. Glassy again, with 3ft of SSW swell at 16 seconds. The energy is 634. Very good conditions. The afternoon gets a little scratchy with a cross-onshore breeze.
Wednesday the 8th morning is a bit messy with rain and cross-onshore wind, but the afternoon is a ripper. Winds go glassy, swell holds at 5ft, period 15 seconds, and the energy is 1177. Another excellent session for experienced surfers.
We then get a clean run from Thursday the 9th through to Friday the 10th, with clean, cross-off winds and solid 5-5ft SSW swell. Not quite the peak of Sunday, but still very good.
The second week from July 11th onwards settles down. Wave heights drop to 2ft to 3ft, and the energy dips below 600 most days. That said, the wind stays favorable—mostly glassy or light offshore. The period on July 13th spikes to 20 seconds, but the swell is only 2ft, so long lines but very small. July 16th and 17th show another pulse, with 4-5ft swell and glassy conditions, energy readings over 1000. That looks promising but it’s further out, so we’ll keep an eye on it.
Overall, this is a solid run for Telescopes. Sunday the 5th afternoon is the absolute standout: 5ft of clean, glassy S swell. Don’t miss it.
Stay stoked.
