The Lowdown

Righto, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for the next couple of weeks.

The forecast is pretty much all about one spot: Telescopes. It's a consistent, exposed reef break that's gonna be pumping with south-west to south-south-west groundswell for a solid stretch. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothin' to write home about in that department.

The first proper session looks like Saturday morning (18 July). We've got a clean 3.6ft SW swell rollin' in – not huge, but with a nice 14-second period, it'll have some push. The wind is light and cross-off, so you're lookin' at clean lines. The combined wave energy is a solid 572 (moderate energy), so it's a good warm-up for the week ahead.

Monday (20 July) is where things start to get interesting. The swell jumps to 5.6ft from the SSW, and the period stretches out to 17 seconds – proper groundswell. The energy is ramping up strong at 1678 (very strong wave energy). The wind is light and cross-shore, so it'll be a bit lumpy but still very surfable. This is a solid pick for anyone who's comfortable on a reef.

Tuesday (21 July) is a standout. The morning starts with a clean 4.9ft SSW swell, cross-off wind, and 949 (moderate energy). Solid. But the afternoon is the real gem. The wind drops to glassy, the swell is 5.2ft, and the energy is 1066 (still strong). This is one of the best windows of the whole forecast – clean, glassy conditions on a quality reef break. That's a session you'll be talkin' about.

Sunday (26 July) sees a bit of a lull, with smaller 2.6ft swell and cross-on wind. Not much to get excited about. But don't worry, it doesn't last.

Monday (27 July) is a sneaky one. The swell is small at 2.3ft, but the period is a massive 20 seconds. The energy is 810 (strong), and with light cross-off wind, these long-period lines could be a treat for the patient surfer.

Now, the real fireworks are from Tuesday (28 July) through to Friday (31 July). This is the best run of the whole outlook. Tuesday sees 4.6-4.9ft SSW swell with 17-second periods and clean, cross-off winds. The energy is through the roof at 1563 (very strong). Wednesday is also clean with 4.3ft SSW swell. Thursday is another cracker with 3.0ft and 20-second period, glassy in the afternoon, energy 1465 (very strong). But Friday (31 July) is the big one. The swell hits 6.9ft from the SSW with an 18-second period, and the wind is glassy all day. The energy is a massive 2661 (very strong). This is big, powerful, and clean – experts only, but it will be world-class.

Saturday (1 August) is still solid with 5.6ft SSW swell and glassy conditions in the morning, but the wind swings in the afternoon. Sunday (2 August) finishes the run with a clean, glassy 5.2ft SW swell and 1508 (very strong energy).

So, the standout sessions are the Tuesday afternoon (21 July) and the Friday (31 July). The first one is clean and manageable, the second is a big, powerful, glassy dream for experienced surfers. Crowds are always possible at Telescopes, but with this much swell on offer, the crew will be out.
