The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the surf over the next couple of weeks at Scarborough Beach.
We’ve got a bit of action coming through, but you’ll have to pick your moments. The swell is hanging in there with some decent groundswell energy, but the wind is going to be the main player here deciding whether it’s clean or messy. The water temperature feels pretty much average for this time of year, so nothing frosty or unusual.
Saturday morning the 22nd is the first standout. We’ve got a clean 6ft groundswell from the WSW with a very long 16-second period, and it’s glassy with a light NE breeze. The energy is pumping at 1881, so there’s plenty of push. This will be proper for experienced surfers – the size and power are decent, and the clean conditions will make it worth the paddle out.
Monday morning the 24th is another good one. The swell is a touch bigger at 7ft from the WSW, period still solid at 14 seconds, and it’s glassy again. The energy is strong (1680). That is a solid, clean session for those with some experience.
By Wednesday the 26th, things get a bit wild. We’re looking at a huge 12ft WSW swell with a very long 19-second period in the morning, and the energy is off the charts at 17734. That’s big, powerful, and a serious handful. Only for experts, and the wind will be a strong cross-onshore, so it’ll be lumpy and challenging.
Looking further ahead, there’s a promising window around Monday the 31st of August. Morning brings a 5ft groundswell from the WSW with an 18-second period, clean with a light cross-offshore breeze, and the energy is strong (1906). Conditions are excellent for experienced surfers again.
Thursday the 3rd of September also looks clean and glassy in the morning with a 6ft swell from the WSW and a 13-second period. Energy is moderate (1294), but the complete lack of wind will make for some smooth, clean waves.
The rest of the run is a mixed bag of cross-shore and onshore winds, so you’ll have to be patient. The best bet is the clean, glassy mornings, especially the 22nd, 24th, and 31st. If you can get on it those days, you’ll score.
Rusty, signing off.
