Table - best surf conditions forecast for Scarborough Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for Scarborough Beach over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but once it kicks in, there are some absolute crackers on the horizon. The first real action is a small, clean window on Saturday morning, but the real standout is Sunday morning, the 12th of July. That’s when we see a solid 6ft groundswell from the WSW with a long 15-second period, and the wind is light, cross-off from the SE. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so just your standard winter wetsuit. The combined energy is strong, sitting at 1540, and conditions are going to be clean. This is a beginner-friendly break, fairly consistent, exposed to the west swell, but the waves will be proper and lined up. Watch out for crowds though, it can get busy here.
The real magic, the one you want to circle on the calendar, is Monday morning, the 13th of July. We’re looking at a 7ft groundswell from the WSW with a very long 17-second period. That’s a serious, powerful groundswell, and with a light cross-off breeze from the ESE, it’s going to be clean as a whistle. The combined energy is a massive 2156, indicating strong wave energy. This is expert territory at that size, but for the experienced crew, this is the best on offer. The long period will make for some proper, walled-up waves at this beach break, so paddle out between the sets.
Tuesday, the 14th of July, keeps the goods rolling with offshore winds from the ENE in the morning and E in the afternoon, both light. Swell holds at 6ft from the WSW, 15-second period, with strong energy (1544 and 1524). Clean, offshore surf for experienced surfers – it’s a full day of it.
We see a bit of a rough patch from Wednesday through to Saturday the 18th, with onshore winds and a big, stormy 13ft swell on the 18th that’s just a mess. That’s kite-surfing weather, not paddle surfing.
Then, hold onto your board. Sunday morning, the 19th of July, we get a redemption window. The swell drops to a still-sizeable 10ft from the WSW, 14-second period, but the wind goes glassy. Absolutely dead calm from the SSE. The combined energy is 3549, very strong, and the conditions are glassy. This is a standout for the experts. The surf will be clean, powerful, and the sets will be a joy to paddle into, with those long gaps between waves.
The following week looks smaller and more inconsistent. Monday the 20th has a clean 5ft swell, but nothing compared to the weekend. Tuesday the 21st is tiny, and there’s a long gap from Wednesday the 22nd through the end of the 16-day window where the wind is too strong or the swell is too weak to get excited about. The 24th of July has a 6ft swell, but it’s blown out by a fresh breeze.
So, bottom line: the best surf is Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th for the cleanest, most powerful waves, with a bonus glassy session on Sunday the 19th for the experts. The rest is a mix of solid but messy, or small and clean. Don’t sleep on that first weekend.
Rusty.
