Table - best surf conditions forecast for Scarborough Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Overall, we’ve got a solid run of swell coming in, but the wind and the size are going to be the main characters in this story. The first few days have some clean windows, but the middle of the week is a write-off, and then we’re looking at a real standout window around the 21st and 22nd of July. The water is running much colder than normal for this time of year, sitting at 63.5°F, so you’ll want a good wetsuit.
We start off on Monday the 13th with a hefty 6.2ft groundswell from the WSW (16-second period), but the wind is cross from the SSW at 6 mph, and the energy is strong (1864). The forecast says it’s marginal, so it’s a bit of a gamble. Tuesday the 14th is a better bet. The morning is clean with a cross-offshore ENE breeze at 12 mph, and a solid 5.9ft swell (15-second period). The afternoon is the pick of the early days: the wind swings offshore from the ENE at 9 mph, and you’ve got a nice 5.6ft groundswell. That’s a clean, manageable wave for experienced surfers.
Wednesday the 15th drops in size a bit, but the wind is messy. The morning has a strong cross-offshore N wind at 16 mph, and the afternoon goes cross-on from the NNW. Not great. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are a washout with light rain, lumpy cross-chop, and on Friday a risk of thunderstorms with a 22 mph cross-on wind. That’s a hard pass.
Saturday the 18th is a big one, but for the wrong reasons. We’re looking at a massive 13.1ft swell from the WSW in the morning, and it’s a full onshore wind. The wave energy is very strong (5593), and the forecast says it’s simply too big for this break. Unless you’re a pro on a jet ski, stay out of the water. The afternoon is still huge at 11.5ft. Sunday the 19th drops back to 7.2ft, but the wind is cross or on, so it’s still marginal.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Monday the 20th is a write-off with strong winds and rain, but set your alarm for Tuesday the 21st of July. The morning session has an 8.2ft WSW groundswell (11-second period), with a light cross-offshore breeze from the SE at 6 mph. The energy is strong (1800). That’s a proper, clean wave for experienced surfers. But the standout is Tuesday afternoon: the wind drops to nothing—glassy, calm conditions—and the swell is still a solid 7.2ft from the WSW. The combined energy is 1377. That is your best window of the entire forecast. It’s a little big for beginners, but for anyone with a bit of experience, that’s the one to aim for.
Wednesday the 22nd is still decent with a clean, cross-offshore NNE wind and a 5.2ft swell, but it’s a step down. Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th have some lovely glassy or clean conditions with 4.3ft to 4.9ft swells, but the energy is dropping. The morning of the 24th looks particularly nice with a 4.9ft swell and a light cross-offshore breeze.
The final weekend (Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th) is a bit of a letdown with choppy conditions and onshore winds, and the last few days of the month are all blown out with strong winds and rain. So, the window is clear: Tuesday the 21st of July, afternoon, at Scarborough Beach is the absolute standout. Get it while you can.
