Table - best surf conditions forecast for Scarborough Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s break down Scarborough Beach for the next couple of weeks.
The first few days are a real mixed bag. We’ve got some solid swell on the cards, but the wind is gonna keep you guessing. Thursday morning kicks off with a clean 2.2m WSW groundswell (moderate to strong wave energy of 1974), and a nice cross-off wind from the north at 15 km/h. The water is running at 18°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year. That’s a proper session for the experienced crew, with that long 15-second period meaning there’s some real power. But by Thursday afternoon, the wind goes cross-on and the quality drops.
Friday morning cleans up again with a 1.6m swell (energy 865) and a light SSE cross-off, making for some very good surfing. But again, the afternoon gets a bit lumpy with a cross-shore wind.
Now, the standout for the first week is Sunday morning, July 12th. Glassy conditions, a 1.8m WSW swell, and a period of 15 seconds. The energy is pumping (1578), and it’s gonna be clean, powerful, and a real treat for anyone who’s comfortable in that size. But at 1.8m, it might be a bit much for beginners. Sunday afternoon gets chopped up by a southerly breeze.
Then we get a run of good morning sessions. Monday July 13th is another beauty: 1.9m, 17-second period (very long period groundswell), energy of 2100, and a light ESE cross-off. That’s gonna be a big, clean, powerful swell – best for the more experienced, as that long period might make it break a bit straight at the beach. The reefs and points will be firing.
Tuesday July 14th holds up with 2.0m and clean cross-off winds, but the energy drops a bit. Wednesday July 15th is okay, but the swell is fading.
After that, it gets messy. There’s a gap from around Thursday July 16th through to Tuesday July 22nd where the wind is all over the place – cross, onshore, lumpy, and the swell is either small or inconsistent. Not worth the effort.
The real standout, but a long way off, is the last few days of the window. Thursday July 23rd and Friday July 24th. Now, this is promising but less certain. The swell is predicted to be massive – 4.5m to 5.0m on Thursday, and 3.5m on Friday, with energy readings in the thousands (4224 to 6961). That is way too big for Scarborough for a normal session. The raw data says it’s too big for the break. This is for experts only, if anyone, and even then, it’s going to be a monster. The wind on Friday morning looks glassy with an offshore, but that swell size is a real handful. For the average surfer, it’s a watch-from-the-beach kind of day.
So, the best overall surf will be the Sunday July 12th morning session for the combination of clean, glassy conditions and a solid 1.8m swell. The Monday July 13th morning is a close second for the raw power and long period. The end of the window is a big swell warning, not a recommendation.
Keep your head on a swivel and your wetsuit zipped.
