The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get this out there. The next couple of weeks are looking a bit ordinary, to be honest. We’ve got a run of small, cross-onshore surf that’s going to keep things grovelly and a little bumpy. Nothing on the horizon screams “drop everything and go,” but there might be a couple of windows where it cleans up enough to be worth a paddle.
The first few days, from Thursday the 6th through the weekend, are pretty uninspiring. The swell is small, mostly around the 3ft mark, with a light cross-onshore breeze. The water is a warm 70°, which is a whopping 9° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s wild, really unusual. The wave energy is moderate, but the wind keeps it from being clean. It’s not going to be a total washout, but you’ll be hunting for the better lines.
The following week, starting Monday the 10th and running through to about Thursday the 14th, sees a bit more size push through, with some sets reaching 5ft. The period is decent, around 13-15 seconds, which gives it a bit more push. However, the wind remains a persistent cross-onshore, so the surface will stay a little lumpy. The standout here is looking like the morning of Friday the 14th. The swell is 5ft from the SW, with a 16-second period, and the wind is light and offshore from the WSW. That’s our best chance for the cleanest, most lined-up waves this week. It won’t be perfect, but it’ll be the most fun you’ll have.
The period from the 15th to the 21st is more of the same; small, choppy, and generally unremarkable. There is a brief pulse of short-period swell on Monday the 17th, with 6ft but only an 8-second period, which usually means it’ll be a bit soft and messy. The wind is offshore, though, so it might be worth a look if you’re desperate, but it’s not going to be great. The energy is moderate, and the swell direction is a bit south, which isn't ideal for this spot.
To be honest, if you’re an absolute beginner, the waves are mostly small enough to be manageable, but the chop will make it tricky. When it pushes over 5ft, like on Tuesday the 11th, it might be too much for the less experienced. The spot is fairly consistent, so there’s always something, but it’s not going to be a classic stretch. The bigger picture looks like a long period of mediocrity. Keep your expectations low, and you might get a fun one in the right bank.
