Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ruby Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, checking in for your local surf outlook.
Mate, I’m not going to sugarcoat it – it’s a tough stretch ahead for Ruby Bay (Ruby-Bay). This spot is a sheltered little point that rarely breaks, and the next 16 days aren’t looking like they’ll change that. We’ve got a long gap of flat, poor conditions from the start through the first week, with barely a ripple. It’s pretty normal for this area when the forecast goes quiet, so don’t get too disheartened.
The water’s hitting about 54°, which is average for the time of year – nothing unusual to report there.
Looking at the chart, Wednesday afternoon (July 8th) kicks things off with a tiny 0.3 ft north swell, combined energy of just 1 and glassy conditions, but it’s still poor. That flat spell runs all the way through to Monday morning (July 13th), when we finally see a 2 ft north swell with a short period of 5 seconds and a combined energy of 14 – still not enough to get excited about, but the wind glassing off is a nice touch.
The real change happens Monday afternoon (July 13th) when a 5 ft north swell rolls in with a 6-second period and combined energy hitting 158. That’s the biggest pulse of the whole outlook, but it comes with a 15 km/h north cross-onshore wind, making it messy. For a beach-and-reef setup like this, that’s looking more interesting for kite surfing than paddling.
After that, we drift back into tiny waves – a few 2 ft pulses on Tuesday (July 14th) and again on Friday afternoon (July 17th), Tuesday morning (July 18th) with 2 ft north swell and light offshore winds, but the energy stays weak (55 tops). Even the 2 ft on Sunday (July 19th) is from the ESE with a period of just 4 seconds – weak and slow.
The one standout – if you can call it that – is Tuesday morning (July 14th). We’ve got a 2 ft north swell, combined energy of 48 and glassy off the SW wind. It’s clean but tiny, and with Ruby Bay being inconsistent, you’d be gambling on a wave. Still, it’s the best of what’s on the table.
For the second week, it’s more of the same: small pulses of north swell with periods from 4 to 20 seconds – those longer period ones (16 to 20 seconds) will be drawn and weak, better suited to a reef or point than here, but the break rarely works even then. Crowds at Ruby Bay are sometimes a factor, but honestly, there won’t be many people out in this.
Bottom line: if you’re desperate, try Tuesday morning (July 14th) or Sunday morning (July 19th) for a clean, tiny wave. Otherwise, it’s a long wait. Forecasts can change, but for now, don’t hold your breath.
Stay keen.
