Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ruby Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me break down what’s cookin’ at Ruby Bay over the next 16 days.
Honestly, mate, this stretch is a tough one for paddle surfers. Ruby Bay is a point break, sheltered and rarely breaks, and this forecast really shows that. There are long gaps where there’s simply nothing to ride.
The first bit of surf appears on Wednesday, July 8th, but it’s just tiny 0.3ft swell from the north with a short 8-second period. The combined swell energy is only 1 (weak). Too small to do anything with, even though the wind’s light and glassy in the arvo.
Thursday the 9th through to Sunday the 12th of July? Dead flat. Zero swell. Not a ripple. You’d be better off bringin’ a book.
Monday, July 13th has a bit of a pulse – a 1ft north swell with a period of just 4 seconds in the morning, energy at 10 (weak). Afternoon sees a bump to 4ft from the NNW, period 6 seconds, energy 130 (moderate). But the wave comment says "poor surf conditions." Tuesday the 14th is the only time we see anything close to rideable: 4ft to 5ft north swell, period 7 seconds, combined energy climbing from 154 to 212 (moderate). Winds are glassy or very light, so the surface would be clean. But at 5ft, the break is inconsistent and rarely breaks, and it’s got a "surfable but very ordinary conditions" note with a score of just 1.
From Wednesday the 15th right through to the end of the forecast on Thursday the 23rd of July, it’s all sub-3ft, short-period junk again, or just flat. A tiny 0.3ft, 18-second long-period groundswell shows up on Wednesday the 22nd, but it’s only 6 energy – a whisper, not a wave.
If you’re a beginner, the tiny stuff on offer won’t hurt, but it won’t thrill you either. For anyone else? This stretch looks more like a kite-surfing setup if there’s any wind, but for a standard surfer, there’s just no standout. No real standout quality here at all.
The water temp is about average for the time of year.
Hang in there, Ruby Bay – forecasts can change.
