Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about Ruby Bay. Honestly, looking at the whole 16-day window, it’s a tough stretch. Ruby Bay is a sheltered point break that rarely breaks, and the forecast is mostly flat or small, with messy conditions. The water temp is sitting at 54°, which is about 1° cooler than average – nothing crazy, just a nippy winter feel.
We start off with a real bummer on Saturday, July 4th. The swell pushes to 7ft from the north, but it’s a short 7-second period with a cross-on wind at 12 mph. That makes for poor surf with a combined energy of 418 (moderate), but with that wind and chop, it’s a write-off.
The only flicker of hope arrives on Sunday, July 5th morning. Glassy conditions – calm wind, 4ft of north swell, period at 9 seconds. Combined energy is 210 (moderate). It’s surfable, but the comment says “very ordinary.” It's tiny, clean, and honestly your best bet for a paddle, but it’s not going to blow anyone away. It’s a beginner-friendly wave just to get wet. Crowds? Ruby Bay gets busy sometimes, but with surf this small, you might have it quiet.
After that, it’s a long dead run. From Sunday afternoon right through to Wednesday, July 15th, the swell drops way off – mostly under 0.3ft or flat. Winds are light and sometimes offshore or glassy, which is cruel because there’s just no wave. You’re looking at a 10-day stretch of basically nothing worth paddling out for.
Then for the second week, things tease a bit. On Thursday, July 16th, we see a pulse of north swell hitting 6ft in the morning, 8-second period, with glassy conditions – combined energy 368 (moderate). That could have been a standout, but the comment calls it “surfable but very ordinary,” and the afternoon jumps to 7ft with onshore wind – too big and messy for a sheltered point like this. That afternoon is really only for experts, and even then it’s questionable.
Friday, July 17th morning: 4ft north swell, 11-second period, light offshore wind (SW at 6 mph), combined energy 295. That’s clean and the longer period gives it some shape for a point break. It’s not huge, but it’s your best shot in the second week – still just a “very ordinary” call, so lower expectations.
The rest of the run into July 19th is tiny and cross-on. Not much to ride.
So the standout? If I had to pick, Sunday July 5th morning is the only truly clean, glassy session with a little bit of height. And then Friday July 17th morning, with offshore wind and a longer period, is your promising but less certain long-range option. Keep your eyes on that one, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
