Table - best surf conditions forecast for Round Rock over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s get straight into it – this is not a pretty picture for the next two weeks. The entire 16-day stretch is one long, uninspiring run of poor surf conditions at Round Rock. There’s no standout period, no hidden gem day, no window of clean swell. From Tuesday 7 July right through to Wednesday 22 July, every single session is written off with the same story: poor surf quality, cross-onshore winds, and lumpy or choppy water. It’s a solid 16 days with no real recommendation.
The root of the problem is the wind – it’s locked in from the east and east-northeast, blowing between 15 mph and 25 mph, and it’s consistently coming at a cross-on angle. That’s about as unfriendly as it gets for Round Rock, an exposed break that wants clean offshore flow. The swell itself hangs around 5 ft to 8 ft with a short, weak period of mostly 7 to 8 seconds – that’s windswell, not groundswell. Combined wave energy varies from moderate values like 257 (on 19 July morning) all the way up to a strong 1012 (on 9 July morning), but with those winds, all that energy just turns into a mess. When the swell pushes past 8 ft on Thursday 9 July morning (8 ft, E, 9 seconds, energy 1012), it’s not only windy but also too big for beginners – and with the cross-on breeze, it’s a session for experienced surfers who don’t mind frustration. The water temperature is 83°F with a small anomaly of 0.9°F, so it’s about average for the time of year, which is nice, but you’ll be sitting out there in warm, sloppy lines.
Looking at the wind state notes: “fresh cross-onshore and lumpy” or “strong cross-onshore and messy” are the standard descriptors. Even the few times the wind drops to 15 mph with a moderate breeze, it’s still cross-onshore and choppy. On the very last afternoon, 19 July Sunday afternoon, the wind switches to onshore from the north-east at 15 mph, but the swell is only 5 ft at 7 seconds – not going to save anything. Because the break is exposed and gets thumped by this persistent east wind, and the surf quality stays poor throughout, honestly this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing – strong, consistent wind, and messy waves.
So what’s the call? There are zero standout days. Don’t bother paddling out unless you’re absolutely desperate. The entire 16-day period is a blank run. But keep in mind: it’s a consistent break normally – this kind of long dry spell is unusual, and forecasts can shift. That said, for now, leave the board at home.
Rusty.
