The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Puerto Arrecife.

Honestly, it’s a pretty grim stretch ahead. Right out of the gate, we’ve got a long run of poor conditions. The first few days are a write-off, with small, weak, short-period swell and cross-onshore winds messing things up. The water temp is about 82°F, which is right where it should be for this time of year, so at least it’ll be warm while you’re sitting there frustrated.

From Thursday the 6th through to the end of the first week, there’s barely a whiff of a decent wave. The energy is weak to moderate at best, with the combined swell energy reading mostly in the double digits or low hundreds (80 to 440). The period is a short, weak 6 to 7 seconds, so it’s just messy, bumpy lines. The wind is almost always cross-on or cross, adding chop. By Saturday afternoon the 8th, we get a marginal call, but it’s still a bit of a mess with a risk of thunderstorms.

The second week doesn’t offer much relief either. The swell picks up a bit around the 15th and 16th, with heights hitting 7 ft to 8 ft, but the energy is getting up there (522 to 554) and the wind is still mucking it up. The period stretches to 8 seconds, which is slightly better, but the cross-onshore flow keeps it choppy. It’s just not clean. The best you could hope for is a marginal window on the Saturday morning of the 15th, but even then it’s a light cross-onshore breeze. The rest of the 16-day window is consistently poor or marginal.

Look, if you’re desperate, the Sunday morning of the 9th had a moment with offshore wind from the N at 3 mph, but the swell was tiny at 3 ft and the energy was a paltry 77. It’s likely not even breaking.

There’s no standout here. This is one of those blank runs that’s normal for the area when the wind and swell just don’t line up. I’d be checking the forecasts again in a few days, because it tends not to stay this poor for long.

Stay patient.

Rusty.
