Roches Noires Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking for the next couple of weeks.

We’re starting off a bit slow, but don’t write it off just yet. The first real action kicks off on Tuesday morning, the 4th of August, at Roches Noires. It’s a reef break, consistent and beginner-friendly, exposed to the swell. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.

Tuesday morning brings a clean 2.3ft SW groundswell, with a long 13-second period, and it’s glassy as a mirror with a light SSW breeze. Combined energy is moderate (289). That’s a nice, clean little wave to get your feet wet. The afternoon holds similar, with a 2.3ft S swell and glassy conditions, energy dropping slightly to 241. Good, mellow surf for a Tuesday.

Wednesday the 5th is a bit of a washout. The swell bumps up to 3ft from the SW, with a very long 15-second period, but the wind turns onshore in the morning and cross-shore in the afternoon. The energy is higher (298 and 359), but the wind messes up the surface. Not one to get excited about.

Thursday the 6th is a mixed bag. The morning is cross-shore again, but the afternoon turns glassy with a 3ft SSW swell, 13-second period, and moderate energy (273). That’s your window for a clean session.

Friday the 7th is a ripper. Morning and afternoon are both glassy with a 2.6ft to 2.3ft SW swell, 12-second period, and energy around 250. Clean, lined-up waves. This is a good day for a longboard.

Now, here’s the standout. Saturday the 8th of August is the pick of the week. The swell jumps to 3.6ft in the morning, 3.9ft in the afternoon, both from the SW. The period is long – 18 seconds in the morning, 16 in the afternoon – and it’s glassy calm all day. Combined energy is strong at 788. This is proper groundswell, and at a reef break like Roches Noires, it’ll set up beautifully. The 3.9ft is still fine for most, but the long period means the sets will have some punch. The water will be clean as a whistle. If you’ve got one day to paddle out, this is it.

Sunday the 9th stays solid. The morning is glassy again with a 3.9ft SW swell, 15-second period, and strong energy (656). The afternoon gets a bit of cross-onshore wind, so the morning is your window.

Monday the 10th is another morning glass-off session. 3.9ft SW, 14-second period, energy at 617. Clean and fun. The afternoon goes cross-shore and gets a bit rippled.

Tuesday the 11th, the morning is glassy, 4.6ft SW swell, 14-second period, energy pushing strong at 763. This is a solid swell, but still manageable. The afternoon gets a bit of cross-shore wind.

Wednesday the 12th and Thursday the 13th are on the smaller side, with the wind not playing ball until Thursday afternoon. Thursday afternoon is glassy with a 5.2ft SW swell, 13-second period, and strong energy (859). That’s a bit bigger, but still okay for most. The long period (13 seconds) means it’s a proper groundswell, so the reef will handle it well.

Friday the 14th has a morning glass-off with a 2.6ft SW swell, 12-second period (energy 402). The afternoon is where it gets interesting – a 2.3ft SW swell with a very long 22-second period. The energy is strong at 876. That’s a pure, deep-ocean groundswell. At a reef, it’ll be long, clean lines, but the sets will be very spread out. Patience is key.

Now, looking further into the second week, things get a bit more serious. Saturday the 15th of August has a 3.9ft SW swell with a 19-second period, but the wind is cross-onshore and then onshore, so the quality is questionable despite the massive energy (1464). That’s a lot of juice but the wind will make it messy.

Sunday the 16th of August is another standout. The morning is onshore, but the afternoon turns glassy with a 4.6ft SW swell, 16-second period, and very strong energy (1052). The forecast says excellent for experienced surfers. At 4.6ft with a long period and a reef break, that’s a proper session for anyone who knows what they’re doing. The crowds are possible here, so get there early.

Monday the 17th of August is clean again, with a 3.6ft SW swell in the morning (15 seconds, energy 809) and a 3ft SW swell in the afternoon
