Table - best surf conditions forecast for Red Strand (Dirk Bay) over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cooking in your neck of the woods.
Honestly, mate, for this whole 16-day stretch, it’s a pretty quiet picture. A real drawn-out lull. We’ve got a massive gap with no real surf on offer from right now, all the way through most of July.
Looking at the whole run, there’s nothing that gets the heart pumping. The waves are tiny to non-existent. The first real sniff of anything that might even be rideable doesn’t show up until late in the game, and even then it’s marginal.
So, strap in. From the start, it's flat. You've got a solid week and a half of nothing worth paddling out for. The swell energy is weak, barely ticking over. There’s no standout session here. The best of a bad bunch, if you could call it that, happens around Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th.
Red Strand (Dirk Bay) is the only spot on the map. It’s a sheltered little reef, a beginner-friendly wave, but it’s going to be starved for swell. The water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, nothing unusual there.
Looking at the later part of the run, the best chance you’ve got is on Saturday the 18th of July. Through the morning and afternoon, we’ve got a light offshore wind from the NNW, blowing at 15 mph, which will keep it clean. The swell is tiny, though, only about 3 ft coming from the SSW. It’s a short-period windswell, only 6 seconds, so the energy is weak (combined energy around 80). It’s a small crumbler, honestly nothing to write home about, but it's the most rideable wave we’ll see in this entire outlook. Crowds are “sometimes” a problem here, but with this kind of surf, I wouldn’t worry too much.
Sunday the 19th of July starts off clean with a moderate breeze, but the swell drops right back to nothing, so don’t get your hopes up.
After that, the tail end of the forecast into late July is just a flat, clean stretch of nothing. Offshore winds here and there, but zero swell to push them around.
So, the honest truth? Leave the boards in the van. This is a long, flat spell. For an area like this, a blank run like this can be pretty normal. No standout days, just a few tiny, clean crumbly waves if you’re desperate. Maybe it picks up for kitesurfing with that light wind and tiny chop, but not for a proper paddle.
Signing off, Rusty.
