Punta Maria Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it for Punta Maria.

To be honest, looking at the next 16 days, it’s a pretty bleak stretch of surf. There’s a long gap of poor conditions right from the start, with nothing really worth paddling out for. The first few days have tiny swell and lousy cross-onshore winds, so you’re not missing much. It’s not until the second week that things start to look a little less hopeless, but even then, it’s marginal at best.

The water temp is sitting around 70°, which is pretty normal for this time of year, so no shock there.

Let’s break it down. Wednesday the 5th and Thursday the 6th are a write-off – tiny 2ft to 2ft of SW swell, with light cross-onshore breezes making it bumpy. The energy is weak (166 to 184). Just stay home.

Friday the 7th morning is a bit of a tease. We get a small bump in energy to 271, but it’s still only 2ft of SW swell, and the wind is cross. It’s a marginal call, but the swell period is 13 seconds, so there’s a bit of shape in there. But honestly, it’s not worth the drive.

The rest of the first week and into the second is more of the same – small swell, cross-shore winds, and poor surf. The energy does climb a bit, hitting 316 on Saturday the 8th afternoon, but it’s still all cross-chop and no quality.

Now, here’s the one standout – and I’m saying this with caution. On Saturday the 15th of August, the swell finally pushes up to 3ft from the SW, with a 16-second period. That’s a proper long-period groundswell, and the combined energy hits 468. The wind is light cross-offshore in the morning, which is a major positive. This is the best window of the whole outlook. The longer period will mean better shaped waves, but at a point break like Punta Maria, that’s a good thing – it’ll wrap in nicely. Crowds are possible here, so be ready for that if you go. It’s still not huge, but it’s the closest we get to clean, fun waves.

After that, Sunday the 16th and Monday the 17th drop back to 3ft and 2ft, with light winds and marginal conditions. The energy is still moderate (around 281 to 287), but it’s just not enough to get excited about.

So, the pick is the morning of the 15th. That’s your window. Everything else is a flat spell or a bumpy mess. Keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
