The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for Port Aransas.

Alright, I'm gonna level with ya. We're looking at a pretty flat spell ahead. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a struggle, to be honest. The waves are small, the wind is mostly on it or choppy, and the surf quality is poor across the board. There's really no standout session to get excited about. The water's sitting at 86°F, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's about the only interesting thing.

We start off now, and it's tiny. Monday the 7th has waves barely 0.4ft (that's about 1ft) from the SSE with a short, weak 4-second period. The combined energy is a measly (10). It's onshore and just no good. This theme continues day after day. Tuesday the 8th, Wednesday the 9th, Thursday the 10th – all the same story: ankle-to-knee high dribble with onshore or cross-onshore wind. The swell is weak, the period is short, and the energy readings are all in the double digits.

Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th see a slight lift to maybe 3ft to 4ft from the SSE, but the wind is still a cross-onshore mess, making it choppy. The period stays short at 5 seconds. It's not rideable in any meaningful way.

Through the second week, from the 14th onwards, the swell tries to push a little more consistently around 3ft to 4ft from the SE, with the period finally stretching to 6 or even 7 seconds by the 16th. The combined energy does creep up a bit, getting into the 70s and low 80s (73, 80), but the wind remains onshore or cross-onshore for the vast majority of the time. The only glimpse of something better is the morning of Saturday the 19th, where we get a clean, cross-offshore wind from the N with a 3ft, 6-second ESE swell. That's the only time in the whole period the wind is favorable, but the swell is still small and weak. For a spot like Port Aransas that's exposed, we need more than this.

Bottom line, there's no surfable swell here for the next two and a half weeks. If you've got to get wet, maybe look at a kayak or a paddleboard, but for surfing, it's a hard pass. Sometimes the Gulf just goes to sleep, and this is one of those stretches. Forecasts can change, but right now, it's looking bleak.
