The Lowdown
Alright crew, Rusty here. Let’s talk about Paradise. It’s been quiet, real quiet, but there’s some serious promise hiding in this 16-day window if you’re patient.
Right now, through the first few days of August, it’s a write-off. Small, weak swell with a combined energy of just 72 to 79, and the wind is a mess – cross, cross-on, even some rain. Not worth paddling out. There’s a little lift on Friday the 7th with a clean 1.3m SSW swell (combined energy 228), but it’s only a "marginal" call, so don’t count on it. Then a big gap opens up: from Saturday the 8th all the way through to Tuesday the 11th, the wind is howling from the west at 22 to 28 mph, pushing that swell size up to 2m, 3m, and even 2.3m on Monday the 10th, but the conditions are just too blown out and lumpy to enjoy.
The first real standout arrives Tuesday, August 12th. Wednesday morning the 12th is looking special. We’ve got a clean 1.6m SSE swell rolling in with a solid 10-second period, and a light cross-offshore WNW breeze at 6 mph. The combined energy is a solid 522 – moderate power, real surfable. And get this: Wednesday afternoon the wind goes glassy. A 1.6m SSE groundswell with not a breath of wind. That’s about as clean as it gets at this point break.
After that, a dry spell again. The swell hangs around 1m to 1.2m, but the wind goes cross or onshore until the following week. Then, mark your calendar for Tuesday, August 18th. Tuesday morning sees a solid 2.1m ESE groundswell with a 10-second period, combined energy up at 1090 (strong), and a light offshore NW wind at just 6 mph. This is big, clean, and powerful – excellent for experienced surfers. The swell direction is ideal from the SSE, and this one lines up perfectly for Paradise. Crowds are possible on a day like this, so get there early.
By Wednesday the 19th, it’s still clean but the swell drops to 1.9m ESE with a long 12-second period, combined energy 932, but winds pick up from the NNE at 16 mph. Still good, but the Tuesday morning session is the one to chase.
The water temp is running much warmer than usual for this time of year at 51.1° F, which is a nice bonus for your early morning sessions.
Stay focused, don’t waste your energy on the junky days. The 12th and the 18th are your tickets.
