Table - best surf conditions forecast for Noorderstrand over the next 16 days.
Right, we’re looking at the next 16 days for Noorderstrand and I’ve got to be straight with you – it’s a real bleak stretch ahead. There’s nothing on the table that’s even close to a proper surf. The first recommendation doesn’t pop up until Friday 24 July, and even then, it’s barely a whisper.
The pattern is grim. We’ve got a long gap from now until late July with nothing worth paddling for. The swell is tiny, a mix of weak, short-period windswell from the north and northwest, with the combined energy only ever reaching 69 at its best, which is properly weak. Winds are mostly cross or onshore, adding chop to an already flat mess.
Friday 24 July morning is the only faint glimmer. The swell is a meagre 3 feet from the northwest with a period of only 6 seconds – that’s weak, short-period stuff. The combined energy is just 62. But, for the first time, we get a moderate offshore wind from the SE. That’ll clean things up. The waves will be surfable, but it’s very ordinary. The score is a 1 out of 10. It’s a beginner-level wave, and the break is fairly consistent, but the swell is so weak it’s barely a ripple. The crowd profile is “often” so you might have company for the one or two ankle-biters.
Before that, from the 13th to the 23rd, it’s a complete write-off. Swell heights are 2 feet to 4 feet, but the period is often 4 to 7 seconds, the winds are cross or onshore, and the combined energy is mostly under 100. It’s completely unsurfable.
After that brief window on the 24th, the energy drops right off again. The 25th and 26th see the swell shrink to 1 feet and 1 foot, with strong crosswinds turning it into a mess. The 27th and 28th offer a tiny little bump from the WSW, but at 2 feet to 3 feet with a period of 4 to 5 seconds and onshore winds, it’s a no-go.
Water temperature’s not mentioned in the forecast, but around here at this time of year, it tends to be the usual. Nothing to report on the anomaly front.
Bottom line: there’s nothing to get excited about. The whole 16-day window is a dud. If you absolutely have to get wet, Friday 24 July morning is your only, very slim, chance. Even then, keep your expectations on the floor.
