The Lowdown
Swell's been a no-show for most of the stretch, with nothing but tiny, wind-affected junk for the first nine days. The water's sitting at 71°F, which is over five degrees warmer than usual for this time of year – that's a real anomaly, feels like a bath.
From Wednesday the 19th right through to the end of that first week, it's all under 3 ft with weak combined energy (mostly under 100), and the wind's either cross-on or cross-shore from the west and north-west. Waist-high slop at best, and it's messy. The 22nd and 23rd see a bit of onshore wind and a tiny pulse, but it's poor surf conditions all the way. A short stretch of clean cross-offshore wind shows up on the 24th and 25th, but the swell's only 2 ft to 2 ft – not enough to bother paddling out for.
We get a bit of a spike on the 28th, with a 5 ft swell from the west arriving Friday morning, combined energy hitting 100. The wind's clean cross-off from the SSW, but the period is short at 5–6 seconds, so it'll be a bit crumbly and weak. Still, by the 28th afternoon, it's the best we've seen in over a week. The 29th offers a clean offshore from the SE, but the swell drops right back.
Then the last few days of August and into September bring a bigger push: the 31st sees 5 ft–5 ft west-southwest swell, with combined energy climbing to 155 and then 202. The period stays short though, 6 seconds, and the wind is cross-on from the west, so it's gonna be choppy and lumpy. By the 1st of September, it's 6 ft from the west, energy at 214, but that cross-on wind is still messing it up. It's not clean, but it's the biggest surf we've seen in the whole window – alright for a punchy session if you don't mind the chop.
The standout is the 28th and 29th window: Friday morning and afternoon on the 28th, with 5 ft west swell, combined energy at 100 and 125, and clean, glassy conditions. The wind is light cross-off, and the swell's not too big for intermediates. The 29th Saturday afternoon also looks clean with a fresh offshore wind, but the swell's a touch smaller at 4 ft. For a proper wave, the 31st morning has the most size (5 ft) and energy (155), but the cross-on wind will keep it from being perfect. If you're a kiter, the bigger, windier days from the 30th onward might be more interesting than paddle surfing.
The rest of the first week of September is tiny again, with just a 5 ft pulse on the 3rd afternoon, but it's clean.
