Table - best surf conditions forecast for Noorderstrand over the next 16 days.
Alright, mate, let’s break down the Noorderstrand outlook. I’m gonna be real with you – this stretch from July 8th through July 23rd is a rough one. The first wave that even looks rideable shows up on Wednesday afternoon, July 8th, but it’s a struggle. The whole 16-day span is full of tiny, choppy swell with nothing that gets the blood going. There are long gaps of days where the swell is so small and the wind so messy that you’re better off staying dry.
Noorderstrand faces the north-west, but the swell is pathetic. On Wednesday the 8th, we’ve got a 2 ft swell from the NNW with a short, weak period of 6 seconds, and the combined energy is just 24 – that’s weak. The wind is blowing straight offshore from the NNW at 9 mph, which sounds sweet, but there’s no power behind the waves. The water is way warmer than usual for this time of year, sitting at 67°F with a 6°F anomaly – that’s very unusual, feels like a heated pool.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th are more of the same: 1.0 ft to 2 ft slop with cross-onshore winds building in the afternoons, turning the surface into a textured mess. The period barely hits 7 seconds. The combined energy never cracks triple digits. By Saturday the 11th afternoon, the swell pushes to 3 ft but with a 4-second period (pure windswell junk) and a 19 mph cross-onshore wind. That’s not surfing; that’s a washing machine.
Sunday the 12th afternoon sees the swell hit 5 ft with a 6-second period and the combined energy at 125 – that’s moderate energy at least – but the wind is a nasty 22 mph cross-onshore. With the beach setup and onshore wind, this is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The second week, from Monday the 13th through Thursday the 23rd, it stays poor. Swell heights bounce between 0.7 ft and 3 ft, periods stay short (3 to 7 seconds), and the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore. A few mornings see light offshore breezes, like Wednesday the 16th with a 6 mph WNW wind and 2 ft swell, but the energy is tiny (15). No standouts, no consistency.
The only thing worth saying is that Noorderstrand is fairly consistent in its inconsistency – so a long blank run like this is normal for the area. If you’ve got a kite, the afternoons might be interesting, but for paddling, save your energy.
Rusty.
