Right, grab a cuppa and listen up. Rusty here. We’ve got a proper quiet spell for the next 16 days, so don’t be expecting much. The outlook is a bit of a write-off, so I’ll be straight with you – there’s nothing to get excited about. The combined swell energy is almost always in the low double digits, hitting a measly 19 on the first Monday morning, so it’s weak energy throughout. The water temperature is a very unusual 67°F, which is 7°F warmer than normal for this time of year – weird, but not much use without any waves.
The first few days are a total washout. Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th are all cross-on wind and poor surf conditions. The swell is tiny, between 1ft and 3ft, with short periods of 4 to 6 seconds. It’s choppy and messy. Wednesday the 8th is the same story. Thursday the 9th morning has a brief moment of glassy conditions with a 2ft swell from the north (7-second period), but the energy is only 24, so it’s barely a ripple. Friday the 10th morning is clean with a tiny 1.0ft, but again, not enough to paddle for.
We then go into a long stretch of nothing. From Saturday the 11th right through to Thursday the 16th, the pattern is all cross-on and onshore wind, with swell heights between 1ft and 4ft, but the quality is consistently poor. The combined energy stays very low, mostly under 30. The 4ft on Monday the 13th afternoon is a brief spike, but with a 5-second period and cross-on wind, it’s just a mess.
The blank run continues. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are still poor, with the only hint of something being a 3ft swell from the WSW on Saturday morning, but it’s cross-shore and short period. Sunday the 19th is a write-off with rain and onshore winds.
Finally, on Monday the 20th, we see a slight lift. The morning has a 4ft swell from the NNW with a 7-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 145, which is at least moderate wave energy. But it’s onshore and light rain, and the “poor surf conditions” tag is still there. The afternoon and Tuesday the 21st are back to strong cross-onshore winds and messy, lumpy surf. The energy is around 60-74, but the wind just ruins it.
Honestly, for a consistent beach setup like Noorderstrand, this kind of blank run is a bit of a normal thing. It’s been a tough 16 days, and the forecast is just not playing ball. The setup is more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer on a lot of these days with that strong cross-onshore and messy water. Keep an eye on the charts, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
