Alright, Rusty here, let’s talk about what’s cookin' at Noorderstrand.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough stretch. We’re looking at a solid run of poor conditions with no real standouts across the whole 16-day window. The first week especially is mostly a write-off with clean surf hard to come by.
Let’s start with Sunday, July 5th. The water’s sitting at 67°F, which is 7°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s pretty unusual, so you won’t need a thick steamer. But the surf? Poor. A weak 3ft NW swell with a short 6-second period and 12 mph WNW onshore wind just isn’t doing it. Combined wave energy is a measly 60 – all that energy is weak. Nothing to ride here.
Monday the 6th through Wednesday the 8th are all messy. Tiny swells (1ft to 3ft) with short periods and cross-onshore winds keep things choppy and unrideable. Not a single session worth paddling out for.
Thursday the 9th stays flat with a 1ft NNW swell, barely any energy (16), and only a little cross-shore breeze – but there's just no push. Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th bring clean conditions with light cross-offshore winds, but the swell drops to a pathetic 1.0–1ft with period down to 5 seconds. Wave energy plummets to single digits (4 on Saturday afternoon). Glassy? Yes. Surfable? Hardly.
Sunday the 12th shows a slight pulse – 5ft N swell with 6-second period and moderate cross-shore breeze. Combined energy jumps to 121 (moderate), but the quality is still poor with a cross-chop. Not worth getting excited over.
Monday the 13th has 4ft to 5ft N swell (6-second period), but winds turn fresh cross-onshore (22 mph) making it lumpy and nasty. This setup would be more interesting for a kite than a paddle board. Same story on Tuesday the 14th with 4ft and fresh onshore winds.
The second week (from Wednesday the 15th onward) is quieter again. Swells hover around 2ft to 3ft with poor wind direction and weak energy. Thursday the 16th through Sunday the 19th stay small and choppy or clean but flat – nothing with any punch.
Monday the 20th sees a bump: 5ft W swell with 6-second period and 185 combined energy (strong), but again cross-shore winds and a cross-chop ruin the ride. Tuesday the 21st? Another 4ft W swell with lighter cross-shore breeze, but still only moderate energy (102) and poor surf quality.
Honestly, there's nothing I’d call a standout here. If you’re desperate, the cleanest windows are Friday 10th and Saturday 11th, but you’ll be fighting for a ripple more than a wave. For beginners, anything over 5ft (like the 5ft on Monday 13th) is too big, and with those winds it’s just ugly. This is a real dry spell – but forecasts can change, so keep an eye out.
Rusty.
