Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the outlook for our local stretch is a bit of a bummer for the next couple of weeks. The finder is throwing up a big fat zero across the board, so we’re looking at a real quiet spell.
Let's start with the water. If you’re heading to Noorderstrand, the water temp is sitting at 67°F with an anomaly of 7°F, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year. That’s a weird one, but don’t get too excited – it won’t help the waves.
Now, the surf. Honestly, there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The first few days are a write-off. Monday, July 6th, we’ve got a tiny 2ft from the WSW with a pathetic 4-second period, and a cross-on wind making it choppy. The combined energy is a weak 34 (34). That’s a hard pass. Tuesday, the 7th, is more of the same: small, short-period junk, with onshore winds ruining any shape. This pattern of poor conditions – small swell, bad wind, and tiny fetch – just keeps going and going.
We’ve got a solid gap of over a week with nothing to recommend. The swell barely tickles 2ft to 3ft most days, and the wind is mostly cross-on or onshore, keeping the surface a mess. There’s a glimmer of cleaner conditions on the mornings of the 10th and 15th with a light cross-offshore breeze, but the swell is so tiny (1ft and 1ft) that it’s not even a knee-high dribble.
The bigger energy comes much later, but it’s still no good. Fast forward to Sunday, July 19th, and Monday, July 20th. The combined energy jumps to 135 and then 232 (moderate wave energy), with swell heights hitting 5ft and 6ft from the WSW. The period is still short, around 5-6 seconds, so it’s a weak, choppy windswell. The problem is the wind is blowing onshore or cross-on, making it messy and lumpy. By the 20th, the swell is 6ft, which is getting a bit chunky for beginners, but the quality is poor – it’s just a bumpy, blown-out mess. Sounds more like a kite session than a surf session, to be honest.
So, bottom line: there’s no standout window. The whole 16-day run is a dud for Noorderstrand. It’s a blank run, but for this area, it’s not that unusual. The forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but right now, I’d leave the boards in the shed.
Rusty.
