Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a decent run of surf coming up at Namotu Lefts, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag, so you’ll need to pick your moments. The water temp is sitting at 79°, which is pretty much spot on for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The outlook kicks off on Monday morning, July 6, with a clean 3 ft swell out of the SSE. The energy is moderate (224) and it’s a nice little cross-off breeze, so it’ll be clean and playful. This is a solid little starter session, but the swell drops off through the afternoon as a light cross-shore moves in and conditions get ordinary.

Tuesday, July 7, is a write-off. Tiny 2 ft to 2 ft SW swell with a super long period (15–16 seconds) but the energy is moderate at best (192 to 352), and the wind is messy. Not worth a paddle.

Wednesday, July 8, gets interesting but only for the experienced crew. The swell jumps to 8 ft by morning, then 10 ft in the afternoon, both from the SSW. The energy is massive—4543 in the morning, 4832 in the afternoon. Periods are 18 and 17 seconds, so this is proper groundswell. But the morning has a cross-onshore breeze and the afternoon is full onshore at 16 mph, so it’s going to be lumpy, rough, and raw. This is expert-only stuff, and honestly, it might be more fun watching than paddling. The afternoon is downright poor, so stay clear unless you’re a beast.

Thursday, July 9, is still big at 10 ft from the SSW, energy high (3560 and 2976), but the wind is cross-onshore or onshore all day. Marginal at best.

Here’s the standout: Friday morning, July 10. Absolutely glassy conditions with a 8 ft SSW swell and a period of 13 seconds. The energy is strong (1805), and with the wind dead calm (3 mph from the SE), this reef will be firing. The swell direction (SSW) matches the optimum (SW) almost perfectly. This is your best session for the whole outlook—clean, powerful, and lined up. It’s on the bigger side, so intermediate and above only, but for those who can handle it, this is the one. Saturday morning, July 11, is also clean with a nice cross-off breeze and a 6 ft SSW swell (12 seconds, energy 1525), but not quite as good as Friday.

After Saturday, the swell drops back to 5 ft to 3 ft from Sunday, July 12, through to Wednesday, July 15, with a lot of fresh cross-shore winds and lumpy conditions. There’s a glassy moment on Tuesday afternoon, July 14, with a small 3 ft SSW swell (period 14 seconds, energy 749), but it’s only 3 ft—fun for a longboard or a groveler.

Looking further out into the second week, things get promising again. Sunday, July 19, is a beauty: a 4 ft SSW swell (17 seconds, energy 1082) with a light offshore breeze from the NE in the morning and a moderate offshore in the afternoon (energy 1278). Conditions are clean, and the swell direction is a near-perfect match. This is the second standout window for experienced surfers.

Then Tuesday, July 21, sees a big pulse of 8 ft S swell (13 seconds) with a massive energy of 4724 and a cross-off breeze—powerful and clean, but that size and energy means it’s strictly for the well-experienced. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a cross-shore and thunderstorm risk, but the morning session is worth an early alarm.

Overall, the absolute best on offer is Friday morning, July 10—glassy, clean, solid 8 ft SSW groundswell, and the reef will be a thing of beauty. Sunday, July 19, is a close second with offshore winds and clean lines. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too raw to get excited about, except maybe Tuesday afternoon, July 14, for a small-wave glassy session.

Rusty.
