G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way across the 16-day window. There’s a big pulse of swell early on, then things wind down, with a few clean windows later for the crew who know what they’re doing.

We start off on Wednesday, July 8 with a proper thumping SSW groundswell hitting Namotu Lefts. The morning session is the standout of the entire forecast: a solid 8ft of SSW swell with a long 18-second period, meaning heaps of energy. The combined wave energy is absolutely pumping at 4543. Conditions are glassy, with a slight SSE breeze, so it’s going to be clean, powerful, and offering those long lefts. The water temp is 78°F, about average for this time of year. This is serious surf – at 8ft, it’s more for experienced surfers, and with crowds being rare here, you might score it alone. The wind goes cross-on by afternoon and the swell bumps to 10ft, turning messy, so the morning session is the call.

Thursday, July 9 stays big with 10ft SSW swell, but a cross-on wind keeps it fairly choppy through the morning, and by afternoon it’s onshore. Not the day for it. Friday, July 10 sees the swell drop to 8ft in the morning but with onshore wind, and it’s only dropping further. Saturday July 11 has 8ft SSW swell with a crosswind in the morning – still a lot of energy (2944) but a bit bumpy. Not the pick.

Sunday July 12 is a nice surprise. The swell drops to 6ft from the SSW, but we get a clean cross-off wind from the ESE in the morning. The wave energy is moderate (1461) and the ride is clean. Good for intermediate surfers wanting a less intense session than Wednesday.

From Monday July 13, the swell backs right off and we hit a quiet spell. Monday morning has only 3ft, and Tuesday July 14 is even smaller with strong crosswind. There’s a gap of a few days with marginal conditions up to Thursday July 16, where a tiny 2ft SSW swell with long 20-second period pops up in the afternoon, but it’s cross-on.

The first standout in the second week comes on Friday, July 17 morning with 4ft SSW swell at 17 seconds, clean cross-off ESE breeze, and moderate wave energy (1328). Then Friday afternoon gets glassy again – a light north breeze, 4ft SSW swell, and a long 17-second period. That’s a real gem: glassy, clean, long period lefts. Worth a look for those who can handle a smaller, period-driven wave.

Saturday July 18 stays clean with offshore winds and 3ft SSW swell – small but tidy. After that, Sunday July 19 cooks up strong NNE winds, ruining the surface. The rest of the window into late July shows small swell and a mix of onshore or cross conditions, nothing to get excited about until Thursday July 23 morning: 5ft SSW swell with a light E cross-off breeze, clean and promising for an early paddle.

To sum it up: Wednesday July 8 morning is the absolute top pick – big, glassy, powerful, and uncrowded. The other strong option is Friday July 17 afternoon for those who want a clean, glassy session on a long period swell, even if it’s smaller. Outside of that, you’re looking at marginal days or clean but small surf.

Rusty.
