Table - best surf conditions forecast for Namotu Lefts over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. I ain’t gonna wrap it up in a bow – the next couple of weeks at Namotu Lefts are a real mixed bag, with a lot of wind and chop messing up what could be some proper swell. The first few days are a bust, so let’s just get through ‘em and find the windows where it all lines up.
Monday the 13th is a no-go. The morning has a clean 1.0m SSW swell, but that 15 mph cross-off wind and the crazy long 18-second period (combined energy of 1092) will see it racing and tricky. By the afternoon, a 22 mph cross-on makes it a total mess. Tuesday and Wednesday are similar – fresh cross-shore breezes and lumpy surf. Not worth paddling out.
Finally, on Thursday the 16th, we get a proper look. Morning is clean, with a 1.7m SE swell under a 12 mph cross-off. The period is short at 8 seconds, so it'll be a bit fat, but the consistency picks up. Afternoon gets better – 2.0m SE swell, lighter 9 mph cross-off, and the energy climbs to 1190. The water is about 78°, which is dead average for this time of year, so no shock there.
Now, if you’re looking for the standout, point your board at Friday the 17th afternoon. The wind completely drops to glass – zero mph from the NE – and you’ve got a 1.2m SSW groundswell with a 15-second period (combined energy of 731). That’s gonna produce some clean, lined-up waves that hold their shape on this reef. It’s not huge, but the quality will be a dream. Saturday the 18th afternoon is also calling – glassy again with a lighter N breeze, same 0.9m SSW swell, and 16-second period. This is the cream of the crop.
Sunday the 19th is worth a paddle too, with a gentle offshore breeze and a 0.7m SW swell (16-second period, combined energy of 489). It’s small but clean. The water temp stays the same – 78°, average for the season.
Then the second week gets spicy but messy. Monday the 20th morning has 1.4m SSW swell with a huge 20-second period (energy at 1687), and a strong 25 mph offshore from the NNE. The waves will be double-overhead and hollow, but that wind makes paddling into ‘em a real grind – this is for experts only. By the afternoon, the wind flips onshore with heavy rain. From Tuesday the 21st through to Thursday the 23rd, it’s choppy and poor, with cross-onshore winds and lumpy conditions.
Thursday the 23rd afternoon sees swell jump to 2.5m from the SSE at 11 seconds (energy at 2360), but the cross-on wind makes it a washing machine. This is a kite-surfing setup, not a paddle session.
Friday the 24th morning cleans up with a 12 mph cross-off and 2.5m SE swell (9-second period, energy of 1701). It’s big and powerful – again, only for experienced surfers. Saturday the 25th morning is similar, with clean cross-off winds and 2.5m SE swell (energy at 1606). It’s a good wave, but keep in mind: that short-period swell can be a bit drifty at this reef, and crowds are rare here, so you’ll likely have room.
Sunday the 26th offers a more manageable 2.0m SE swell under clean winds in the morning, but the afternoon gets choppy. The very last day, Monday the 27th afternoon, has a tiny 0.5m SW groundswell with a 19-second period (energy of 293) and light, clean winds. A fun little end-of-run session for the longboard.
Crowds at Namotu Lefts are rare, so you’ll likely have plenty of room even when it’s good. The best of the best is that Friday the 17th afternoon glass-off – don’t miss it.
Rusty.
