Table - best surf conditions forecast for Namotu Lefts over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Namotu Lefts.
Right off the bat, the first few days look pretty average. The surf is there, but the wind is working against us. Thursday and Friday have a solid 7ft to 10ft SSW swell, but it’s being shredded by a strong cross-onshore wind, making it choppy and messy. The wave energy is massive, with readings well over 3000 (strong to very strong), but that doesn’t mean much when the wind is trashing it. You’ll want to sit these out.
The real standout starts on Saturday, 11th July. Saturday morning is the pick of the week. We’ve got a clean 8ft SSW groundswell (15 seconds period) with a light cross-offshore breeze from the ESE. The water is a warm 78°, which is about average for this time of year. This is excellent surf for experienced surfers – that’s a bigger, powerful wave that’s handling the reef well. The energy is still strong (2953), but the clean conditions make it rideable. Crowds are rare here, so you might have it mostly to yourself.
Sunday morning, 12th July, is another good call. The swell drops to 6ft but stays clean with the same light ESE cross-off wind. It’s a bit smaller, but still a quality wave for the experienced crew. The energy has dropped to moderate (1461).
From Monday the 13th through to the middle of the month, the swell drops off significantly. We’re talking waist to chest-high stuff, mostly under 5ft. The wind does turn clean and cross-offshore, but the wave energy is weak (under 1000). There are some nice glassy windows on the 17th and 18th of July, with a 3ft SW groundswell and no wind at all, but the size is small. It’s a fun, clean session for a longboard or a foamie, but not a standout.
The long-range forecast for the third week of July is not looking great. Swell drops to under 3ft, and the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore for most of the last week. There are a couple of mornings with clean conditions and offshore winds, like the 20th and 21st, but the swell is tiny (3ft to 3ft) and the energy is very weak. It’s a long gap of poor to marginal surf from the 14th right through to the end of the forecast window.
So, the short version: your best bet is Saturday morning, 11th July, for a solid, clean, powerful wave. Sunday morning, 12th July, is the next best. After that, it’s a waiting game for a new swell.
Rusty.
