The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it – Milford Beach is looking dead for the next 16 days. There’s no surf on offer from the get-go.
We’re looking at a long, flat run from Thursday the 6th of August all the way to Friday the 21st of August. Every single time slot is rated as "poor surf conditions." Not a single wave worth paddling for. The combined energy of all swells directed here is mostly zero, and when it does show up, it’s a weak dribble – the highest we get is a moderate 169 on the 15th of August.
For a sheltered spot like Milford Beach, which is a beach and reef setup that needs a northeast swell, this is a total washout. The water is about 56°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year. The strongest wind we see is a cross-offshore from the northwest on the 15th of August, but the swell is only 4ft from the north with a short period of 8 seconds. That’s not enough to get you out of bed.
The later week has a few glassy days on the 20th and 21st, but with zero swell, you’re just looking at a flat, clean pond. It’s a blank run, and it’s more normal for this area when the swell direction is wrong. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to chase. Even the kite surfers would be bored.
Rusty.
