Table - best surf conditions forecast for Long Strand-Castlefreke over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next two weeks are a tough watch for Long Strand-Castlefreke. There just isn’t anything in the 16-day window that’s worth paddling out for. Every single session across the forecast is flagged as poor surf conditions, so I’ll keep it real.
We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple. For the first week and a half, from Sunday the 12th right through to Saturday the 25th of July, the swell barely scrapes above 1.3 feet. The combined wave energy sits under 100 most days, often in the weak 20s or 30s or lower (34), which is barely enough to wobble a longboard. There’s a tiny bump of energy mid-week on Tuesday the 14th morning hitting 113, but at 1.3 feet from the SSW and a fresh offshore wind, it’s just not surfable. The water temperature is running about normal for this time of year at 60.6°F.
The wind is a mixed bag – some clean offshore mornings from the ENE, but even on the glassy Friday the 17th morning, we’ve only got 1 foot on offer. That’s a lake, not surf.
A few days around Friday the 25th and into the weekend of the 26th, the swell picks up with some slightly bigger readings – 3 feet on Saturday morning, and even a 5-foot pulse on Saturday afternoon (25th) from the SSW with a short period of 6 seconds. The wave energy jumps to 175, but the wind is onshore and choppy, and the quality is still poor. That 5 feet with onshore wind and a very short period is just a messy, blown-out wall. Even the 3.3 feet on the 26th Sunday morning with 122 energy is paired with a fresh onshore. It’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddler’s wave here.
Bottom line: there are no standout options. Sometimes you get a blank run, and this is one of them. Don’t hold your breath.
Short Range ForecastSome drizzle, heaviest during Tue afternoon. Warm (max 23°C on Sun afternoon, min 16°C on Sun night). Winds decreasing (strong winds from the ENE on Mon morning, calm by Tue night). | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryLight rain (total 2mm), mostly falling on Thu afternoon. Warm (max 20°C on Fri morning, min 16°C on Wed night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
