Table - best surf conditions forecast for Long Strand-Castlefreke over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's chew the fat on what Long Strand-Castlefreke has in store.
To be straight with you, the next two weeks look pretty flat. We're looking at a long run of tiny, gutless waves. The first real chance to paddle out isn't until Saturday the 11th of July, and even that's a washout.
Kicking off Saturday the 11th, we're seeing a 0.3ft swell out of the south. Wind is offshore from the NE, so it'll be clean as a whistle, but there's just no push (combined swell energy of 8). You'll be sitting there bobbing around. That same story holds through Sunday and into Monday the 13th, with the swell barely reaching 1ft. Offshore winds keep it clean, but the energy is still well under 100, meaning it's weak.
We get a tiny lift on Tuesday the 14th of July, with a 1ft SSW swell and the combined energy hitting 116. The wind is cross-offshore, so it's still tidy, but you're looking at ankle to knee-high dribble. This break is fairly consistent, but when it's this small, it's a real struggle.
The one window that might get your hopes up is around the 24th of July. Friday the 24th morning is glassy with a 0.7ft swell, but by the afternoon we see a jump to 4ft from the SW. Here’s the kicker: the period drops to a pathetic 4 seconds, and a cross-onshore wind makes it choppy. The combined energy is only 63. That’s wind-slop, not a proper groundswell.
We also have a moment on Thursday the 23rd of July, with a 0.7ft SSW groundswell at a long 15-second period and glassy conditions. Sounds good on paper, but there's no size to ride. That long period might make it sectiony on a beach break like this, too.
So, to wrap it up: the whole 16-day outlook is a write-off for decent surf. We have clean conditions at times, but no swell to go with it. For this area, a flat spell like this is pretty normal. If I had to point to the only notable moment, it's that 4ft on the 24th afternoon, but the wind and short period ruin it. Best to find something else to do.
Rusty, signing off.
