Table - best surf conditions forecast for Long Strand-Castlefreke over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be honest about what’s on the menu for the next couple of weeks. It’s gonna be a long stretch of quiet, so don’t get your hopes up just yet.
Right now, we’re looking at a pretty flat spell. The swell is tiny, barely a ripple, with the combined energy barely breaking a sweat (16). It’s not going to do much of anything for a while. The first day with any real surf action is a long way off, and even then it’s not exactly firing.
We’ll see a bit of a bump start to kick off around the 12th of July, but it’s still small. The 13th and 14th of July see a slight increase, with the swell just getting to 1.0ft from the SSW, but the energy is still weak. The wind is howling out of the ENE, which is offshore, but it’s a strong breeze, making it tough to paddle into those tiny waves. It’s clean, but it’s a real struggle.
The 15th of July is more of the same: small, clean, but lacking any punch. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The one day that stands out – and I mean *really* stands out – is the 23rd of July. It’s still a long way off, so take it with a grain of salt, but the data shows a sudden spike. On the 23rd of July, we get a 3ft swell from the SW, but the real story is the period. It’s a shockingly short 4 seconds. That’s windswell, pure and simple. The combined energy jumps to 26, which is still low, but it’s the biggest number we’ve seen in weeks. The wind is onshore though, so it’s going to be a bit of a messy, choppy affair. It’s not one for the longboarders either, as that short period means it’ll be a close-out.
Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, Long Strand-Castlefreke is your only option. It’s a fairly consistent spot, and it’s exposed to the SW, which is where the tiny pulses are coming from. The quality just isn’t there for a proper session. The best of a bad bunch is probably the 23rd of July if you’re desperate for a paddle, but don’t expect much.
Rusty.
