The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a hard look at what’s coming down the line for Le Porge.
Straight up, it’s a grim stretch. We're staring at a whole lot of nothing for the first week and a half. The water is sitting at 78°, which is much warmer than normal – feels like a bath out there.
We don't get a sniff of any decent surf until Thursday morning, August 20th. Even then, it’s only a marginal call. We’ll see a 4ft swell rolling in from the WNW with an 11-second period, which gives it a bit of push – moderate wave energy (435). But the wind is a light cross-shore out of the north, which should keep it fairly clean. This is about as good as it gets in this whole outlook.
After that, it’s back to rubbish. A few days of onshore and cross-onshore winds chop up everything else. The swell kicks up again on Thursday morning, August 27th, pushing 7ft from the WNW with a 10-second period – that’s strong wave energy (878). But the wind is a moderate cross-onshore out of the southwest, making it choppy and messy. That size is for the experienced crew only. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing given the conditions.
We see another blip on Wednesday morning, September 2nd – a 5ft swell from the WNW, period around 8 seconds, and a light cross-shore wind from the NNW. It’s in that same marginal zone, but it might offer a few grovelly waves if you’re desperate. The wave energy is moderate (277).
Honestly, there’s only one standout here: Thursday morning, August 20th. It’s the cleanest, most well-rounded window with a proper groundswell push, light winds, and manageable size. Get it while you can. If you miss that, you’re waiting a long, long time.
Rusty.
