Table - best surf conditions forecast for Le Porge over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer. I’ll be straight with you – this is a quiet stretch for Le Porge. We’re looking at a long run of small, messy conditions with very little to get excited about for the next couple of weeks. The water is sitting at 72°F right now, which is a good 4°F warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least the dip won’t be a shock.
We start off with a bit of a tease on Thursday morning, July 9th. The swell is only 2ft from the WNW, with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is weak (74). The wind is glassy though – dead calm from the SE. It’ll be rideable, but very ordinary. It’s the only decent window in the first few days. By Thursday afternoon, the wind swings NNW and picks up to 12 mph, turning it cross-shore and choppy. Friday and Saturday follow the same pattern: tiny waves, mostly poor conditions.
Sunday morning, July 12th, offers a brief moment of hope. The wind is light from the ESE at 9 mph, blowing cross-offshore, which should keep the surface clean. The swell is still only 2ft from the WNW at 9 seconds, and the energy is very low (50). It’s surfable, but don’t expect much push. After that, we hit a proper dead zone. From Sunday afternoon right through to Wednesday, July 23rd, the swell drops to nothing or gets chopped to pieces by onshore winds. There’s a stretch of 11 days where the surf is just poor or unsurfable.
Then, on the morning of Thursday, July 24th, things finally start to look a bit more interesting. The swell picks up to 4ft from the WNW, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 265, which is a solid moderate pulse. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the WNW at 9 mph, so it’ll be a bit lumpy, but it’s the biggest swell we’ve seen in the whole forecast. This is the standout of the run. It’s still not a classic, but if you’re desperate for a wave, that’s your window. Keep in mind, the swell period is short, so the waves will be a bit crumbly and less powerful than the size suggests. It’s a beginner-friendly size at 4ft, but the onshore wind will make it a bit of a battle.
The rest of the run is a write-off. We’ve got a few glassy mornings on the 18th and 19th of July, but the swell is tiny (1ft to 2ft) and the energy is weak. You could get a longboard out on those mornings if you’re really keen, but it’s not worth the drive.
Overall, this is a poor outlook. The best bet is the morning of Thursday, July 24th, but even that’s a "make the most of it" situation. If you’re a beginner, the 4ft on the 24th is fine, but the short period and cross-onshore wind mean it won’t be clean. The consistent lack of quality is a bit of a bummer for the area, but it happens. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
