The Lowdown
Alright, y'all, Rusty here. Let's talk about what we've got cooking for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you. The next week or so is looking pretty grim. We've got a lot of wind and swell that just doesn't line up, so most days are a write-off. The water is sitting at a warm 78°, which is a solid 7° warmer than usual for this time of year. That's seriously unusual, almost like a warm bath out there.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Saturday, the 22nd of August. Saturday morning at Le Porge is our first standout. We've got a clean 3 ft of swell rolling in from the WNW. The real winner here is the wind: a light 9 mph offshore breeze from the East. That'll keep the surface glassy and smooth. The swell energy is moderate at 147, and the 9-second period is decent for a beach break. It's a beginner-friendly spot, so it's a good session for everyone to get some work in. The crowds are only "sometimes" an issue, so you might get a few waves to yourself.
The other highlight is a bit further out, and it's a big one. Mark your calendars for the morning of Thursday, the 3rd of September. The models are hinting at a solid 6 ft of WNW swell, with a clean 6 mph offshore breeze from the North-Northeast. The energy is going to be moderate at 310, and the 7-second period is a bit short, but the conditions look good. If the forecast holds, there will be some fun lines.
Then, Friday, the 4th of September morning is also looking promising. Another 6 ft of swell from the WNW, but this time with a perfect 6 mph offshore from the East-Northeast. The swell energy is similar at 366, and the 8-second period should give the waves a bit more shape. The break is a bit exposed, but with the wind in the right spot, it'll be clean.
Honestly, that's about it. The rest of the period is either too small, too windy, or too messy. The morning of Wednesday, August 27th, is packing a massive 10 ft of swell and 1165 of energy, but it's way too big for this spot and the wind is bad. That's a hard pass from me.
It's a bit of a barren run, but these things happen. The good news is that the window closes with a couple of solid-looking mornings, so it's not all bad. Keep your fingers crossed.
Rusty.
