The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again, giving you the rundown for Le Porge. The water temp is feeling a lot warmer than usual for this time of year, right around 77°.
Look, I’m not gonna sugarcoat it. The next week and a half is a long stretch of mediocrity. The Saturday morning (22nd August) is about the best we see early, with a clean 3ft from the WNW and a light east offshore. The wave energy is moderate (151). It’s surfable, but it’s not going to blow anyone away.
After that, it’s a slog. The surf drops off to almost nothing with nearly zero energy, and most of it is blown sideways or onshore. The 26th Wednesday morning gives us a short-period 3ft with a moderate offshore, but the energy is weak (72). Not a good look.
Then we get a pulse of big, stormy energy from the 27th through the 29th. We’re talking 6ft to 12ft of swell, with combined energy going through the roof (up to 3056), but it’s all onshore and messy with storm risks. That’s expert-only territory and honestly, it looks more like a kitesurfing setup than a surf session.
The one bright spot in the whole 16 days is the Sunday morning, 30th August. The wind goes glassy, dead calm. We get a clean 5ft from the WNW and the energy is moderate (307). It’s not massive, but that glassy surface will make it clean and fun. This is the one to circle on your calendar.
After that, we’re back to a mix of onshore winds and average conditions through the first week of September. The 3rd September morning has a bigger 7ft west swell with a long 13-second period, but it’s onshore. Solid energy (1423), but poor shape. The 5th September morning has similar size (7ft) and a light cross-onshore breeze, but it’s still marginal.
In short, if you’re looking for a good clean session, your only real shot in this whole window is that Sunday morning, 30th August with the glassy conditions. Get on it.
Rusty.
