Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, this is Rusty. We’re looking at a tough stretch for Le Porge for the next couple of weeks. The water is sitting at a very unusual 78°, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year.
The immediate window is pretty quiet. Right now, July 3rd is flat and crossed-up with a light NNW breeze and a weak 4ft WNW swell. The water’s got your wetsuit peeled, but the waves aren’t worth a paddle.
The first real chance of anything clean comes on Saturday morning, July 4th. The wind will be glassy – absolutely dead calm. That’s the big positive. We’ve got a 4ft groundswell out of the WNW with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate at 227. This will be the standout of the whole run. It won’t be huge, but on a day with zero wind, it’ll be clean and fun for a beginner-friendly wave. The forecast suggests the wind will turn moderate cross-onshore later that afternoon, so get it early.
After that, it drops off hard. Sunday the 5th has a tiny 2ft swell with a light cross-off breeze in the morning, but it’s weak (99 energy). We then hit a dry spell. From Monday the 6th right through to Wednesday the 15th, the surf is poor. There are days with almost nothing – swells between 1ft and 2ft, combined energy staying below 100 for most of it, and the wind is usually cross-onshore or choppy. There’s a long gap here with no real recommendations.
*Then*, a glimmer in the deep end of the forecast. On Saturday morning, July 18th, the swell jumps to 5ft out of the west with a period of 9 seconds, and the energy kicks right up to 450 (strong). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the NNW. This is the biggest swell of the period, but it’s also a week and a half away, so don’t lock it in yet. The 6ft afternoon swell is even bigger but has a moderate cross-onshore wind, making it choppy. For now, the 5ft morning on the 18th is worth watching.
So, the verdict: glassy dawn patrol this Saturday morning, July 4th, is your best bet. If that doesn’t happen, keep an eye on the 18th for a bigger but wind-affected option.
Rusty.
