Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ve got to be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a paddle at Le Porge. We’re staring down a long dry spell with very little to get excited about. The wave energy is weak to moderate at best, and the wind is mostly working against us. It’s one of those runs where you might be better off checking the forecast again in a few days.
The first real chance of anything rideable is a brief window on Monday morning, the 6th of July. We’ve got tiny 2 ft swell out of the WNW with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined swell energy is weak at 49. What makes it interesting is a light offshore breeze from the east – clean conditions. The water is sitting at a very unusual 76°, which is a whopping 8° warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick wetsuit. But honestly, it’s still pretty ordinary.
After that, it’s a write-off. Tuesday the 7th through to Saturday the 19th of July is just day after day of poor surf conditions – onshore winds, cross-shore chop, and tiny, weak swells. We see a slight pulse of energy around the 18th and 19th, with swell heights pushing 5 ft to 6 ft out of the WNW and combined energy climbing into the moderate range (159 to 447), but the wind is howling from the WNW at 16 to 22 mph, making it a messy, blown-out mess. That’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a surfing one – too choppy and lumpy for a proper paddle.
The end of the run, around Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, sees the swell taper back down to 2 ft to 5 ft, but again the wind is all wrong – cross and cross-onshore.
So, the highlight? Honestly, it’s that Monday morning the 6th. It’s tiny, but with clean, light offshore wind, you might snag a couple of fun ones if you’re a beginner or just keen to get wet. The water is unseasonably warm, which is a bonus. Everything else in this 16-day stretch is a hard pass.
Keep an eye on it – forecasts can change – but right now, this is a long, flat, choppy slog.
