The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, looking at what's shaping up for the next couple of weeks at Le Porge.
Honestly, it’s a bit of a slow burn for the first week or so. The swell is tiny and the wind is all over the shop, mostly onshore or cross-onshore, which is just going to keep things messy. There’s a few days in there where you’ll see a little bump, but the quality is just not there. You’re looking at a real quiet spell from Tuesday the 18th right through to maybe the start of the following week.
The first real glimmer of hope comes on Saturday, August 22nd. The morning is actually looking sweet. We’ve got a clean, cross-offshore breeze from the ENE blowing at 9 mph, tidying up a 3 ft WNW swell. The combined energy is weak at 117, so it’s not going to be pumping, but it’ll be surfable and clean. That’s your best bet for the first week, but keep expectations in check.
Now, let’s talk about the standout. The real action looks like it's going to show up right at the end of the month and into September. Monday, August 31st is the one to circle on the calendar. We’ve got an ESE wind at 6 mph, blowing cross-offshore, which is going to glass off the surface. The swell is a clean 4 ft out of the NW with a 9-second period, and the combined energy is moderate at 237. The conditions are forecasting "clean" – that’s the word we like to hear. Tuesday, September 1st morning is also looking very similar, with a clean 3 ft WNW swell and light offshore wind. That Monday and Tuesday morning window is the clear winner, offering the best chance for some proper, clean, shoulder-high waves.
Further out, on Wednesday, September 2nd, there’s a bigger push of longer-period swell (12 seconds) rolling in at 6 ft, with a combined energy of 843. That’s a solid amount of power. But the wind is forecast to be light and cross-onshore, which is a bit of a letdown. It could still be a fun session, but it’s a long way off and the winds could easily change. Keep an eye on it.
So, to sum it up: the first week is largely a write-off for quality. The best surf on offer is the Monday/Tuesday window at the end of August and start of September. Get on it.
Rusty.
