Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, it’s Rusty here, and I’ve gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks at Le Porge are looking pretty grim. We’re in for a long stretch of small, wind-affected slop before a late pulse of energy might offer a little something.
Right now, and for the first week or so, there’s just nothing to get excited about. We’re looking at tiny waves from 0.7ft to 3ft, mostly from the WNW, with periods hanging around 5 to 11 seconds. The biggest issue is the wind. It’s nearly always onshore or cross-onshore, blowing from the WSW, W, or NW, keeping everything chopped up and messy. The combined energy is weak, stuck in the teens and 40s and 50s (42 to 98), confirming just how limp the surf is. The water temp is sitting at 73°, which is a whopping 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a very unusual warm spell, for what it’s worth.
The only real glimmer of hope in this whole first week comes on Saturday morning, the 11th of July. We’ll see a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW with a modest 8-second period, but the wind switches offshore from the ESE at just 3 mph. That’s clean. It’s still small, but at least it’s not a washing machine. It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The same deal on Sunday morning, the 12th, with a smaller 2ft WNW swell and offshore ESE breezes at 9 mph. The energy is weak (53), so don’t expect much push.
After that, we fall back into a total wasteland right through to the 19th of July. The waves barely reach 3ft, and the wind is almost always onshore. It’s a proper flat spell.
The only real standout, and I mean the *only* one in the entire 16-day window, is a late pulse on Monday morning, the 20th of July. The swell bumps up to 5ft from the W with a 7-second period. The combined energy jumps to 205 – that’s moderate and the biggest we’ll see. But here’s the kicker: the wind is a cross-onshore SW breeze at 12 mph. The wave comment still says “poor surf conditions,” so don’t be fooled by the size. It’s going to be messy, choppy, and honestly, with that wind and a beach break setup, it looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. If you’re an expert, it might be worth a look, but it won’t be pretty.
Other than that, the 22nd of July morning offers a tiny 3ft NW swell with a light cross-offshore breeze from the ENE, giving clean conditions, but the energy is weak (79) and the waves are small.
Honestly, for a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a brutal run. The forecasts can change, but as it stands, the only day worth even thinking about is Saturday the 11th for a clean but tiny wave, or Monday the 20th if you’re desperate for some size and don’t mind the chop.
Rusty.
