Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Hey folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Le Porge.
Alright, to be straight up with you, this outlook is a tough one. The next 16 days are looking pretty grim for any kind of decent paddle surfing. The energy just isn’t there, and the wind is fighting us most of the time. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions, with only a couple of very brief windows where things clean up enough to get wet, but even then it’s small.
The first real chance to get a wave is on Monday morning, July 6th. It’s not a standout by any stretch, but it’s the only time the stars align slightly. The swell is tiny, coming in at 2 ft from the WNW, with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy of all swells is weak (49). The water here is a massive 75°, which is a whopping 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – you won’t need a thick suit, that’s for sure. The wind is a gentle offshore from the East, so the surf will be clean. It’s a beginner-friendly break, so if you’re just learning, this might be your shot. You can expect crowds sometimes.
After that, it’s a wasteland. From Monday afternoon all the way through to Saturday, July 11th, it’s just poor surf conditions with onshore, cross, or cross-onshore winds wrecking the surface. The swell remains tiny, mostly between 1.0 ft and 2 ft. The combined energy is weak, rarely getting above 86. It’s basically a write-off.
The next tiny glimmer comes on Sunday morning, July 12th. Again, we get a clean window with an offshore breeze from the ESE. The swell is still small at 2 ft from the WNW, with a 10-second period. The combined energy is moderate (74). It’s surfable, but very ordinary. The wind, however, will be good, making it clean. If you’re desperate, this is your second best option for the whole 16 days.
Then the pattern of poor conditions returns. From Sunday afternoon onward, it’s a long slog of poor surf, onshore winds, and tiny swell. The combined energy drops to very weak levels, sometimes as low as 12. The conditions get a bit more active around July 16th, but the wind is still onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell is only 2 ft. The final few days from July 20th to 21st see the swell bump up to 4 ft and 4 ft from the NW, but it’s accompanied by 18-22 mph onshore winds and rain showers. The combined energy is moderate (104), but it’ll be a messy, blown-out wind swell. At that point, with the wind and poor surf quality, this setup actually looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
So, to sum it up: the best of a bad bunch is Monday morning, July 6th, and then Sunday morning, July 12th, for a clean, small, beginner-friendly wave. Everything else is a complete no-go.
Rusty.
