Righto, Rusty here. Let me tell you straight: it’s been a quiet stretch and it’s going to stay quiet for a while. The first real chance for a surf comes on Saturday morning the 4th of July at Le Porge, but don’t get too excited. We’ve got a clean 4ft swell out of the WNW with a period of 10 seconds, and the wind is glassy offshore from the NW at 3 mph. That’s a rare clean window. The combined wave energy is moderate at 245. The water temp is 78°, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year – a solid 10° above average. It’s a beginner-friendly spot and fairly consistent, but crowds are possible. That Saturday morning is the standout, because after that it gets ugly.
By Saturday afternoon, the wind swings NNW and ramps up to 16 mph cross-onshore, turning it to chop. Sunday morning the 5th might look tidy with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell drops to 2ft and the energy is weak (91). Monday the 6th is even smaller at 2ft with a 9-second period and only 51 energy – surfable but ordinary. From Tuesday the 7th through to Friday the 10th, we’re looking at tiny junky waves, most of it under 2ft with onshore or cross-onshore winds and poor conditions. There’s really nothing worth paddling out for.
The weekend of the 11th-12th stays on the small side, with a bump up to 3ft on Sunday morning the 12th, but the period drops to 8 seconds and it’s cross-onshore – choppy and messy. A bit more energy (141) but not worth the effort. The following week, from the 13th to the 19th, is a flat run of tiny waves under 3ft, mostly onshore winds, and poor quality. There is a brief glassy window on Wednesday morning the 15th with 3ft and zero wind, but the swell is weak (168) and it gets blown out by afternoon. The 16th has another glassy morning at 2ft, but again, it’s small.
Honestly, if you missed that Saturday morning the 4th, you’re waiting a long time. There’s a lot of days with no real recommendation in between – basically a stretch of 10 days or more that are mostly poor. The only true standout is that first Saturday morning: clean, glassy, small but workable. For the rest, it’s a blank run, and that’s pretty normal for the area when the wind doesn’t play ball.
Rusty.
