The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cookin’ for the next couple of weeks.
First thing you gotta know: it’s a slow start. Don’t even bother paddling out until late in the week. The water’s a warm 77°, sittin’ way above normal for this time of year — feels like a bath, but there’s no juice in it.
The first real chance to get wet doesn’t show up until the morning of Thursday, 27th August. Le Porge (France) is lookin’ at a 5ft west swell. The period is a bit short at 9 seconds, so it’s a bit of a lumpy, windswelly kind of wave, but the wind is glassy — dead calm — and that’s the main event here. Combined wave energy is moderate at 311. It’s clean, it’s rideable, and for a beginner-friendly spot, that’s a solid morning. The afternoon gets choppy with a cross-on breeze, so get out early.
The next standout is on the morning of Tuesday, 1st September. Glassy again. You’ll find a 5ft swell from the west-northwest (9 seconds). The energy is moderate at 268, and the wind is flat calm. It’s going to be clean and cruisy. This is your best bet for a fun session without the crowds being too bad — it’s only *sometimes* busy here.
After that, it’s a long dry spell. We’ve got nearly a week of nothing worth mentioning, until the 7th of September. Monday morning, 7th September, brings a 10ft west-northwest swell with a short 9-second period. The combined energy is a massive 1495. That’s serious power. But here’s the deal — it’s predicted to be too big for this break. That’s expert-only territory, and even then, the wind is onshore, so it’s gonna be a washing machine. If you’re a kiter, the 28th and 29th of August with all that wind and 7ft+ swell might look more interesting than a paddle.
Overall, the best on offer is the Thursday morning, 27th August session, followed by the glassy Tuesday morning, 1st September. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too big.
Rusty.
