Table - best surf conditions forecast for Seignosse - Le Penon over the next 16 days.
G’day surfers, Rusty here. So we’re looking at Seignosse - Le Penon, and to be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are a bit of a grind. There’s a lot of time where you’re better off doing something else. The water’s running at 74°F, which is way warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a nice little bonus for the skin.
We kick off the forecast, and it’s slow. Saturday the 11th has a 2ft swell from the WNW with a 9-second period. The morning is glassy, but the energy is weak (104) and conditions are just ordinary. Sunday the 12th is similar in size, but the wind goes cross-shore and mucks it up. Monday the 13th sees a bump to 4ft from the WNW, but the period tanks to a junky 6 seconds and it’s onshore. The whole of that first week is mostly tiny – knee-high or less – with periods between 5 and 8 seconds, and the combined energy stays well under 100. There’s a real dead stretch from the 14th all the way to the 20th.
Things get a little better in the second week. Monday the 20th of July morning is the first real chance. It’s glassy, with a 5ft swell from the WNW. The period is still short at 6 seconds, so the shape won’t be perfect, but the energy is moderate (140) and the clean wind makes it rideable. Tuesday the 21st morning is much the same – 4ft from the NW, glassy, with 155 energy. Not a classic, but okay.
The one to hunt for is Friday the 24th of July morning. This is the best of the bunch. We get a clean 5ft swell from the NW with a solid 9-second period, and it’s under glassy offshore wind from the SW. The combined energy is a strong 354. That’s proper swell energy, and with that wind, the waves should be clean and have some push. This is the session to aim for.
Saturday the 26th morning pushes up to 6ft from the NW with a 10-second period and 585 energy – serious power. But it’s blown out by onshore wind (W at 15 mph), so it’ll be messy and choppy, more of a battle than a pleasure.
So, the pick of a thin period is the morning of the 24th. Before that, it’s mostly small and ordinary. After that, the size comes but the wind wrecks it. Be patient and keep that Friday morning circled.
Rusty.
