The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a good look at what the next couple of weeks are shaping up like for our local stretch. I'm talking about Seignosse - Le Penon, which is a beach and jetty setup.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this forecast is a bit of a slow burn. For the first several days, it's looking pretty grim. The water’s sitting at a very warm 77°F, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year, so the boardies are definitely staying on, but the waves? There’s just no love from the ocean. We're looking at a gap of about five days where there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the wave energy is weak, like 42 on Tuesday the 18th and only 15 on Wednesday the 19th. It’s all small, weak, and choppy – pure frustration.
Now, things finally start to perk up on Saturday morning, the 22nd. We get a proper window. The swell bumps up to a knee-to-waist high 4 ft out of the NW, but the real story is the wind. We've got a clean ESE offshore breeze at 15 mph. That's going to scrub the surface right up. The combined energy is a moderate 211, so there's some push. It’s not huge, but it’ll be clean and workable. This is the first real chance to get a couple of grovelly ones.
The standout session, the one I'd be circling on the calendar, is the Thursday morning of the 27th. There's a proper pulse of swell hitting, 7 ft out of the WNW. That’s a solid size, especially for this spot – definitely one for the experienced crew. The period is a nice 10 seconds, giving it some decent power. The combined energy jumps right up to a strong 908. It's a big lump of ocean. The wind is light cross-shore, so it won't be perfect, but the juice is worth the squeeze if you can handle the size.
Following that, don't sleep on Friday morning, the 28th. The swell drops to a more manageable 4 ft from the NW, but we get a brief moment of pure magic: glassy conditions. Zero wind. Combined energy is still a solid 242. That’s the kind of morning where Le Penon can be silky smooth, and you'll get some fun little runners. It'll be clean as a whistle.
The second week gets more uncertain as usual, but there’s a promising blip early on. Wednesday morning, the 2nd of September, we see another glassy morning with a fun-sized 5 ft NW swell and a healthy 372 combined energy. It's a long way out, so keep an eye on it, but it could be a beauty.
Overall, the first week is a write-off until Saturday, then we get a couple of proper windows. The big Thursday is the one for the chargers, and the glassy Friday morning is the one for everyone else. Those are the two to aim for.
Rusty.
