Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's on the menu for Seignosse - Le Penon. The swell window is open straight out of the gate, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag of conditions this week. We've got a few nice windows of clean, glassy surf, but also plenty of onshore and cross-shore chop to deal with.
The action kicks off on Friday morning, July 3rd. Nothing huge, but the wave energy is moderate at 241. We're looking at a 3ft swell coming from the NW with a 9-second period. The wind is dead glassy from the NW at just 3 mph, so the surf will be clean. This is the perfect time for a beginner to get out there. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year.
Saturday morning, July 4th, is another good call. The swell bumps up a touch to 4ft from the WNW with a 10-second period and the energy is climbing (261). With the wind going glassy again from the WNW at 3 mph, it’ll be a bigger, cleaner version of Friday. This is probably the standout window of the first few days.
From Sunday the 5th through Thursday the 9th, the swell drops off significantly, dropping below 2ft. The energy is between 41 and 73 - weak stuff. Mornings are mostly glassy, but there's just not enough water moving to get excited about. You *could* get a little knee-high roller on the glassy mornings, but it’s ordinary.
The swell tries to pick back up on Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th, but the wind is mostly onshore or cross-shore, so the quality will be poor.
Now, if you can wait, the real standout is Tuesday morning, July 14th. This is a week and a half out, so it's a promising one. The swell direction swings back to the preferred WNW at 3ft, but the period jumps to a very long 13 seconds – pure groundswell energy. The combined energy hits 276, and to top it off, the wind goes dead calm, glassy. It’s a beach/jetty set-up, and that long-period swell can sometimes make a beach break fat, but with those clean conditions, it could be worth a paddle.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th keep the swell around the 3ft to 3ft mark. Thursday morning is another glass-off from the SSW, but the period drops to 9 seconds and the energy is just 88, so it’s more of a fun-sized wave than a proper session.
After that, the forecast goes a bit flat again through the end of the period into the 18th. The swell sticks around the 2ft to 4ft range, but the wind is messy, keeping things choppy and poor.
So, to sum it up: Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th mornings are your best, cleanest bets for this week. For a taste of some longer-period energy, keep an eye on Tuesday morning, July 14th.
Rusty.
