The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Seignosse - Le Penon. It's a bit of a grim start, I gotta be honest with you. The next week and a half is looking pretty flat and messy for this exposed beach/jetty setup. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the wind is mostly junk. There's a real gap in quality surf here, with mostly poor conditions and scores that don't give me anything to get excited about until late in the month.
The water is currently sitting at 75.7°F, which is a whopping 6.1°F warmer than usual for this time of year – that's a seriously unusual warm spell, feels like a bath out there.
The first flicker of anything decent doesn't show up until Monday morning, the 27th of July. That's a solid week of waiting. On that morning, we get a bit of a pulse of groundswell from the NW at 3.6ft, with a period of 10 seconds. The wind is glassy from the north, so it'll be clean. The combined energy is moderate at 204, so there's a bit of push behind it. This is the one standout in the whole outlook. The waves will have some shape, but it's a beach break, so a long-period groundswell like that can sometimes break too straight. Still, with glassy conditions, it's the best you're going to get. The afternoon gets ruined by a 12 mph cross-shore from the NNW, so get in early.
The crowd situation at Le Penon is described as "sometimes" busy, so on that Monday morning, with the only decent surf in the forecast, you can bet it'll be a bit of a zoo.
After that, it drops back down again. The rest of the week is a mix of small, weak swells and onshore or cross-shore winds. The morning of the 29th of July has a clean offshore wind from the east, but the swell is only 3.6ft with a short 7-second period, so it'll be weak and a bit gutless. The morning of the 30th is glassy again, but the swell is tiny at 2.6ft.
For the first week of August, it's fully flat and blown out. Honestly, for the whole 16-day window, Monday the 27th of July is your only real shot. If you're not a beginner, that 3.6ft swell is a little on the small side, but it's all we've got.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 24°C on Sun afternoon, min 20°C on Sun morning). Wind will be generally light. | Days 5-7 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 26°C on Tue afternoon, min 18°C on Wed morning). Wind will be generally light. | |||||||||||||||||||
