The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s on the table for Seignosse - Le Penon over the next couple of weeks.
First off, I gotta be straight with you. The start of this period is a bit of a flat spell. We’re looking at tiny, weak waves and mostly onshore or cross-onshore breezes that are just chopping things up. It’s a pretty grim kick-off, and honestly, there’s nothing worth paddling out for until we get into the second week. You’re looking at a solid 10-day gap here with nothing to get excited about, so maybe save your wax for later.
The first real glimmer of hope shows up on Monday the 27th of July. The morning session is looking like the pick of the early action. We’ve got a clean 3 ft swell coming from the NW with a light offshore breeze from the east. The energy is still weak, but it’s clean and the wind is right. The afternoon gets wrecked by a strong north wind, so get in early if you’re keen.
Now, the real standout is shaping up for the end of the month. Wednesday the 30th of July is the one to circle. Thursday morning, the 30th, we’ve got a 5 ft NW swell pulsing in with a 10-second period, and the wind is set to be glassy – dead calm from the north. The wave energy is moderate to strong. This is going to be smooth, clean, and with some proper push. The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing wild there. This is the best session on offer.
Following that, Friday the 31st of July morning sees the swell bumping up to 6 ft from the NW, with a 9-second period. The energy is strong, but the wind is cross-shore. It’s a bit more of a mixed bag, and at 6 ft, it might be pushing it for the beginners. The afternoon gets messy with a stronger cross-shore wind. This is more for the experienced crew who don’t mind a bit of texture.
Overall, it’s a slow start, but the last few days of July and into August have some real potential. The 30th is the clear winner, so plan your time off around that Thursday morning glass-off.
