Table - best surf conditions forecast for Seignosse - Le Penon over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the Seignosse - Le Penon stretch.
To be straight with you, the outlook for the next 16 days is a tough one. We’re looking at a long stretch of small, weak, and messy surf. The water is running at 74°, which is a solid 6° warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real anomaly, feels like a bath out there.
The first glimmer of anything surfable comes on the morning of Saturday, July 11th. It's not much, with clean 2ft waves from the WNW (10-second period), and glassy conditions with an easterly breeze. The combined energy is weak (106). It’s surfable, but very ordinary.
The next morning, Sunday, July 12th, is a carbon copy: glassy conditions, 2ft, 10-second period swell from the WNW, and weak energy (85). Again, it’s the best on offer for a while, but it’s tiny and only for the most patient surfer.
After that, the window slams shut. We go through a long, grim run from the afternoon of July 12th all the way through to the end of the third week of July. The swell drops to knee-high or below, periods are short, and the wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore. It’s a desert.
Now, late in the period, there’s a potential standout, but it’s a long way off. The morning of Friday, July 24th, sees a bump in swell to 6ft from the WNW (8-second period) with moderate combined energy (500). The wind is a light cross-onshore from the NW. This is the biggest swell of the whole 16-day forecast, but the period is short, so it’ll be a bit of a messy, lumpy wave. It’s a marginal call, and given it’s over two weeks away, take it with a grain of salt.
For the rest of the time, the combo of small, weak swell and onshore wind makes this setup look more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. The consistent onshore flow will at least keep the kites happy.
This is a bleak run, but it tends not to stay poor for long around here, and forecasts can change.
Rusty.
