The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this forecast for Le Dossen is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for any decent surf. Every single session is flagged as poor surf conditions, and there’s nothing to get excited about. It’s a dry spell, pure and simple.
Looking at the details, Friday the 17th starts us off with nothing. A tiny 1.0ft swell from the west, with a weak period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy is a measly 24. That’s barely a ripple. The water temperature is sitting at 61°F, which is about average for the time of year, so that’s not the issue.
We limp through the next week with waves that never get above 4ft, and even when they do, the wind is all over the place. Saturday the 19th afternoon sees a short-period 4ft swell from the northeast, but with a fresh 19 mph cross-breeze, it’s just a messy lump. The combined energy is only 120, which is still weak.
The only real increase in size comes on Saturday the 26th of July, with a 5ft swell from the west-northwest. The period is 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to 302, which is finally moderate. But the wind is onshore and gusting at 9 mph. For a beginner-friendly spot, 5ft is already pushing it, and with that onshore wind, it’s going to be a crumbly, choppy mess. Not worth the paddle out.
The same pattern continues into the first week of August. A few more pulses of swell, but the wind is always onshore, cross-onshore, or just not clean. The entire run is a blank. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a real bummer, but sometimes the ocean just shuts down. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to recommend. Keep the board in the car and wait for a better window.
Rusty.
