Lahinch Left Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Right, grab a coffee, settle in. This is a tough one for Lahinch Left, I won’t lie to you. The outlook for the next 16 days is a proper stinker in terms of quality surf. We’ve got a long stretch of what I’d call frustrating conditions ahead. The first few days are a write-off. From Tuesday the 4th right through to Sunday the 9th, it’s just onshore, choppy mush. We’re talking wind from the west and west-northwest battering the coast, swell barely cracking 3 feet for the first couple of days, and when it does pick up to around 6 feet on Wednesday the 5th, the wind is a messy cross-onshore. The combined wave energy might get up to moderate levels like 218 on that Wednesday, but it’s all short-period, wind-slop energy – not the kind of power you want to sink your rails into.

This whole first week is a no-go. It’s not until Monday the 10th that we finally get a window of clean air. That morning a gentle offshore breeze from the east swings in, and by the afternoon it goes glassy – dead calm. For a reef like Lahinch Left, that’s the dream. The problem is the swell is tiny – just 3 to 3 feet from the west-northwest with a moderate period around 8-9 seconds. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. The wave energy is weak (94-127), so you’ll be fighting for any kind of shape. If you’re desperate for a paddle and the tide is right, that Monday afternoon might give you a few clean little waves, but don’t expect much.

After that one decent day, it goes quiet again. We have a gap from Tuesday the 11th right through to the end of the run, with nothing I’d call a standout. There’s a bump on Thursday the 13th where the swell hits 6 feet from the west with moderate energy (360-481), but it’s smashed by a strong cross-onshore wind from the northwest. That’ll be blown-out and choppy again. The period on Friday the 14th morning jumps to 11 seconds (a proper groundswell window), but the swell is only 3 feet and the wind is cross-shore, leaving it marginal at best.

Honestly, this is a bleak spell for Lahinch. The water temp is sitting around 62°, which is pretty average for August, so no complaints there. But the wind just won’t play ball. For the whole 16-day window, only one session, that Monday the 10th, offers even a hint of clean, glassy conditions. That’s your best bet, and it’s a small one. Everything else is onshore, lumpy, or just too weak to bother with. If you see a weather change that brings a solid westerly groundswell with a northerly offshore, then we’re talking. But looking at this data, it’s a waiting game.
