The Lowdown

Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. This forecast is a tough one, a real dry spell. We're looking at a solid run of mush and chop, with only a few brief windows where it could clean up enough to be worth a paddle. Don't get too excited, but there are a couple of moments to keep an eye on.

The first real chance we get is Friday morning, August 7th. The wind drops out completely, going glassy, which is a massive deal for us. The swell is small, only about 2ft from the WNW with a short period of 6 seconds and weak energy (49). It's not going to be big, but clean and glassy is better than big and blown out. The water is a very notable 75°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might not even need a full suit. The downside is it’s likely to be weak, but if you're jonesing for a slide, that's your window.

After that, things pretty much flatline for over a week. The swell stays tiny and onshore winds mess up most of the clean morning windows. We go through a long stretch with nothing worth mentioning. You can forget about the weekend and most of the following week.

We start to see a bit more energy in the water around Friday afternoon, August 14th. The swell picks up a touch to 3ft from the W, and the energy is building, hitting the moderate range (124). But the cross-onshore wind is up to 19 mph, so it's going to be lumpy and messy. Not good.

The most promising window in the whole run looks like Monday morning, August 18th. Swell pushes up to 3ft from the WNW with a modest 9-second period. Energy is moderate at 138, the best we've seen. The wind is light cross-onshore only 6 mph, which should keep it fairly clean. It won't be epic, but it's the most surfable it's looked in a while, and it's still a couple of weeks out, so we can hope for a better direction.

There's a final little pulse of energy on Thursday afternoon, August 20th, with the swell back to 3ft from the NW and energy at 124. But that cross-on wind kicks up again to 16 mph, so expect it to be chopped up.

Honestly, the pickings are slim. It's a flat, messy stretch. The only real standout is that glassy Friday morning, but the swell is weak. The Monday the 18th has the best combination of size and energy, but it's a long way off. Let's hope the forecasts change for the better. This is Rusty, signing off.
