The Lowdown

Alright, mates, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you: the next couple of weeks look pretty grim for a proper surf at Induruwa. We've got a whole lot of lumpy, cross-onshore slop and stormy conditions dominating the forecast, so don't get your hopes up for anything magical. There are a couple of windows where it might clean up enough to be worth a look, but honestly, we're in for a rough patch.

We're looking at a solid, long-period SSW swell first up on Tuesday the 4th, pushing through at 4.3ft. The energy is strong, but it's being ruined by a cross-on breeze. It’s gonna be choppy and messy, not the clean lines we want. The water temp is about average for this time of year.

The rest of that first week keeps the same story: onshore winds and risk of thunderstorms. The swell hangs around the 4.3ft to 4.9ft mark, but it’s just not clean. By Wednesday morning, the swell is still 4.3ft with a period of 15 seconds, but the wind is on it again. It's just frustrating, you know? Even when the swell pulses to 5.2ft on Saturday afternoon, it's all over the place.

The following week, from Monday the 11th, we see the swell start to ease. Tuesday the 12th sees a drop to 2.6ft with a shorter 16-second period, but the wind is still cross-onshore. It's weak and weak-looking. On Thursday the 13th, the morning swell jumps to 5.2ft but with a terrible 7-second period and a cross-on wind. That’s just a messy, short-period windswell and not worth your time. Honestly, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing on days like this.

There is a small glimmer towards the end of the run. On Wednesday the 19th, we see a 3.6ft SSW swell, with a solid 19-second period and the energy building back up. The wind is still onshore, but the longer period gives me a little hope. It’s a promise of better things, but it's still a week and a half away, so treat it as promising but not guaranteed.

So, the bottom line is, there are no proper standouts in this window. It's a long stretch of onshores and messy conditions. We might get a few semi-rideable mornings in there, but nothing to get excited about. The swell direction is from the SSW, which is the optimum for Induruwa, but the wind just won't cooperate.

Keep the faith. It tends not to stay poor for long. Forecasts can change quickly.
