The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's cooking for the Green Room.

To be straight with you, the next couple of weeks are looking grim. The wind is stuck on a southwest flow, which is the exact opposite of what this reef needs to clean up. For days on end, we're looking at poor surf with a zero score. The water is a warm 84°, right on average for the season, so at least the temperature isn't a problem.

The first sign of life doesn't show up until the afternoon of Monday, September 14th. The swell jumps to 7ft from the south-southwest, but it's a short-period windswell at 9 seconds, and the wind is just cross-shore. It's a marginal call, and with that much energy (1442) and messy conditions, it's more of a kite session than a surf session.

We're back to waiting until Wednesday, September 16th. The morning is a mess, but the afternoon shows a glimmer of hope. The wind drops to 12 mph from the southwest, still cross-shore, but the swell period stretches out to 17 seconds. The wave height is a modest 4ft from the south-southwest, but that long-period groundswell energy (1145) might just offer a few clean lines if the wind plays nice. It's still a marginal call, but it's the best we've got.

The pattern of cross-shore winds and lumpy seas continues. Sunday, September 20th sees another bump in the afternoon, with a 4ft, 15-second swell from the south-southwest, but the wind is still cross-shore, creating a lumpy cross-chop. Another marginal one.

The best bet, if you're keen, is that afternoon of September 16th. The lighter wind, even if cross-shore, and the long-period energy make it the least messy window. It's not going to be epic, but it's the most likely spot to find a few rideable waves.

Rusty.
