The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on offer for Green Room over the next 16 days.
I gotta be straight with you – this stretch is a tough one. The whole 16-day window is a poor run of surf conditions. There’s not a single recommendation, and the wind is a constant problem. We’re locked into a pattern of cross-onshore winds, mostly from the SW and SSW, with moderate to fresh breezes, and that’s keeping the lineup lumpy and choppy. The first surfless gap starts right now, and it runs all the way through to the end of the forecast on July 30th. That’s a long blank run.
Green Room is a reef break, and it’s getting plenty of swell energy – the combined energy often sits in the moderate to strong range, like 442 (moderate) early on, ramping up to 1252 (strong) on July 21st morning. But it’s all being wrecked by the wind. The swell direction is consistently from the SSW to S, which matches the optimum direction of S, but it’s useless with that cross-on wind. The water temperature anomaly is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
The swell heights bounce around, with some pulses like 5 ft and 6 ft, but with periods as short as 6 seconds, it’s just weak, short-period windswell on top of the lump. Even when we see a 24-second period on the morning of July 26th, the swell is only 1 ft, and the wind is a fresh cross-on. It’s a frustrating mix. If you’re thinking of a paddle, it’s a no-go. Honestly, with the windy, lumpy conditions and the beach/reef setup, this looks more interesting for kite surfing than a paddle session.
That’s the long and short of it. Forecasts can change, but for now, save your energy.
