Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at what we’ve got coming up for Ile des Deux Cocos.

First off, the water’s sitting at a warm 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – nice for a longer session without needing a thick suit.

The outlook starts quiet. There’s nothing really worth paddling out for on Tuesday the 14th or Wednesday the 15th – the swell is there, around 4 to 5 ft, but the wind is a moderate breeze cross-off, and the conditions are rated as poor or marginal. The combined energy is moderate (752 on Tuesday morning, dropping to 561 in the arvo), but it’s just not coming together. Thursday the 16th is even smaller and weaker, with combined energy down to 129 in the morning. Not your day.

Then, Friday the 17th of July – that’s where the magic shows up. The morning is glassy, with a light northerly breeze at only 3 mph – flat calm. Swell is 2 ft but it’s coming from the south with a very long period of 17 seconds. That’s a proper groundswell, and for a reef break like Ile des Deux Cocos, that long period will line up beautifully. The combined energy is 386 (moderate), but the quality is what counts. This is your standout window: clean, glassy, and expect good to very good surf conditions. It’s a beginner-friendly break normally, but the long period and small size make it even more accessible. Crowds can sometimes be a thing here, so keep that in mind.

Saturday morning the 18th holds similar clean, glassy conditions with 4 ft of south swell and a 14-second period, combined energy at 482. Still very good quality. But by the afternoon, the wind swings cross-on and the quality drops.

Sunday the 19th is small and glassy in the morning with 1 ft and a 16-second period – surfable but ordinary, with energy down to 147. Afternoon gets onshore and messy.

Now, Monday the 20th brings a solid SW groundswell – afternoon sees 6 ft at 16 seconds, combined energy shooting up to 1356. That’s strong energy. But the wind is straight onshore at 6 mph, and the conditions are only marginal. This one’s for the more experienced crew – over 5 ft starts pushing beginner limits, and the onshore breeze will chop it up.

The rest of the week into late July is a mixed bag. There’s plenty of swell – heights between 4 and 7 ft, and energy often in the strong range (over 1000). But the wind is almost always cross-on or onshore, and the conditions are rated poor or marginal. Thursday the 23rd has a glassy morning with 6 ft of SSW swell and 13-second period – that’s got potential for the experts, with combined energy at 1156 and a “very good” surf conditions tag. But the afternoon turns cross-on and choppy again.

Beyond that, from the 24th to the 29th, it’s a long run of cross-on winds and choppy surf. There are a couple of mornings (like the 28th) with cross-off winds and clean conditions, but the swell is on the bigger side (5 ft) and the ratings are marginal. Not a classic run.

So, to sum it up: the standout is Friday the 17th – small, glassy, long-period south swell. That’s your best bet. If you’re an expert, maybe the morning of Thursday the 23rd is worth a look for the size and glass, but be ready for the chop to come in. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game.
