Table - best surf conditions forecast for Green Ball over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a honest look at what this stretch has for us. Straight up, I’ve got to tell you, the outlook for Green Ball over these next few weeks is pretty bleak. We’re looking at a long, frustrating run of poor conditions with hardly any windows worth paddling out for.
The main issue is the wind. It’s stuck in a cross-onshore or cross pattern, mostly from the ESE to SE, and it’s blowing with moderate to fresh strength for almost every session. That means the surface is going to be choppy, lumpy, and messy. The swell is coming from the SSW to SW, which is what this exposed reef break wants, but the wind completely ruins it.
The combined swell energy, while moderate to strong at times (like 1031 to over 3500), never translates into quality surf because of that relentless wind. Even when the swell drops to around 3ft to 3ft on July 12th and 13th, or pushes up over 7ft in the second week, it’s all just blown out.
There is no standout period here. From Saturday July 11th right through to Sunday July 26th, nearly every session is flagged with “poor surf conditions” or at best “marginal surf.” The only slight flicker of hope is on the morning of July 16th and the morning of July 24th, where the wind goes cross-shore and the conditions are labelled marginal. On July 16th (Thursday morning) we’d have a 6ft SSW swell with a 15 second period – that’s some decent energy (combined energy of all swells directed here sits at 1432) – but it’s still a cross-shore wind with chop. On July 24th (Friday morning) the swell is 5ft from the SSW, period 14 seconds, energy at 1828, but again, cross-shore wind and a lumpy cross-chop. Neither of those windows are clean enough to get excited about.
Green Ball is a reef break, advanced level, and it’s fairly consistent with exposure to the SSW swell. That’s all good on paper, but when the wind won’t cooperate, there’s just no way to enjoy it. Crowds are “sometimes” an issue here, but frankly, with conditions this poor, I doubt many will be out.
The water temperature is 81°F, which is about normal for July with a tiny anomaly of 0.5°. So that’s not going to bother anyone.
Honestly, this is one of those stretches where you’re better off keeping the boards in the car and waiting. A blank run like this is not unheard of for this area when the tradewinds settle in and don’t let up. Forecasts can change, but right now? It’s a hard pass.
Rusty.
