The Lowdown
Right, gather round. Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the local stretch.
To be honest, it's a pretty bleak picture for the next two weeks. We're looking at a long, long gap with barely a ripple to speak of. The first sniff of anything rideable doesn't show up until the morning of Tuesday, 1st of September, and even then, it's a sad little affair.
For the bulk of the outlook – from now through to the start of September – we've got next to nothing. Tiny, weak pulses, mostly onshore wind or flat calm, with wave energy so low it barely registers. You'd be better off cleaning the wax off your board than trying to surf it.
On Tuesday, 1st of September, things get a little interesting at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). We see a SW swell pushing in at 3 ft, with a period of 6 seconds and a combined energy of 42 – still weak. The morning looks best with a clean cross-off breeze from the ENE at 6 mph. It's described as "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions", so don't expect much. The water temp is a toasty 81°F, which is a massive 5°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that's really unusual.
After that, it's back to the doldrums. Wednesday the 2nd and Thursday the 3rd offer tiny dribbles, but nothing worth paddling out for. Then from Friday the 4th right through to Wednesday the 10th of September, it's a total blank – zero swell energy. There's nothing on the cards.
There is no standout here. The best of a bad bunch is the Tuesday morning session at Forte dei Marmi, and that's only if you're desperate for a paddle. It's a beach/jetty setup, exposed to that SW swell, but the quality is just not there.
It's a tough run. But you know how it goes – it never stays poor forever. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
