The Lowdown

Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a long stretch of flat, small, and pretty ordinary conditions on the cards for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). The good news? The mornings are looking glassy and clean, with the wind dropping right out. But that’s about where the good news ends for a while.

Right off the bat, the first week is looking like a write-off. From the 10th right through to the 17th, we’re looking at weak, dribbly swell at best. Tuesday the 11th might give you a tiny knee-high ripple, but it’s barely going to break. The 17th is slightly better, but we’re still talking about ankle-biters under 1ft and a real low-energy vibe, with combined energy readings of just 1 to 3. It's a flat spell, no way around it.

Then things get a little more interesting. We see a push of swell arrive on the morning of the 18th, with a 4.3ft SW swell and a 7-second period. That's still short-period windswell, but there’s some push behind it. The combined energy jumps to 153, which is moderate. The problem is, the morning starts with rain, and while the offshore NE wind is good, the quality is just ordinary. The afternoon swings to a cross-onshore WNW breeze and the surf fades. It’s not great, but it’s something.

The 19th and 20th stay in that same vein. Mornings are your best bet, with clean conditions and offshore breezes. On the 19th, we’ve got 3.6ft at 7 seconds, and the 20th bumps up slightly to 3.6ft at 8 seconds, with the energy reading 152 and 159 respectively. It’s still not epic, but it’s the most surfable window we’ve got in the whole period. If you’re a beginner, this is still fine, but don’t expect much power or shape. The wave period is short, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and sections will be hard to find.

After that, the swell backs right off. From the 21st right through to the 25th, we’re on a downward slide back to tiny, weak waves. The energy drops to single digits and low double digits. The mornings are clean, but a 2ft bump on the 21st and 23rd is about as big as it gets, and it’s not going to offer much.

So, honestly, the standout days are the mornings of the 19th and 20th. That’s your window. It won’t be a classic, but it’s the best we’re going to get, and the clean conditions make it worth a paddle if you’re desperate. Everything else is a flat spell, which is pretty normal for this area, but the window is there if you’re flexible. Keep your eyes on that forecast, though. It doesn’t tend to stay this poor for long, and things can change.
