The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get real about Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). This is a beach/jetty setup, exposed to a SW swell, and over the next 16 days, it’s a grim picture. The combined energy of all swells directed here is mostly zero or single digits, with a few weak pulses in the low hundreds at best (172). The water temperature is a whopping 82.4°, which is 7.2° warmer than normal for this time of year – very unusual, you’ll feel like you’re in a bath.
The forecast is dominated by flat spells and tiny, weak waves. From Sunday the 19th through to Monday the 27th, the surf is basically non-existent. We’re talking about a stretch of 9 days with nothing worth paddling for. The first glimmer of hope comes on Tuesday the 28th of July. The morning offers the best of a very poor bunch: a 3.0ft swell from the SSW at 7 seconds, with a combined energy of 75. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the ESE, keeping it clean. It’s surfable, but ordinary. The afternoon gets messy with onshore wind and a 3.3ft swell.
After that, the rest of the window fades back into tiny, choppy, or onshore mush. The morning of Wednesday the 29th has a clean 1.6ft from the S with a light offshore NE breeze, but it’s barely a ripple. The period is short (8 seconds), so no power. The only day that might be worth a look is the morning of the 28th, and even that’s a stretch. For a beginner, the swell is small enough to be safe, but the quality is so low it’s hard to recommend.
Honestly, this setup looks more interesting for a kite session than a paddle session on most days, especially with the stronger onshore winds in the afternoons. The waves are just too weak and inconsistent.
Short Range ForecastSome drizzle, heaviest during Sun morning. Warm (max 30°C on Sun afternoon, min 22°C on Tue night). Wind will be generally light. | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 29°C on Wed afternoon, min 20°C on Thu night). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
