Alright, let me take a look at what’s happening with Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). Straight up, it’s a tough stretch for surfers around here. The whole 16-day window is mostly flat, with barely a ripple worth paddling for, so I’ll be honest: there’s nothing to get excited about.
First off, the water is sitting at 78°, which is about 5° warmer than usual for this time of year, so the sea is warm, but that’s about the only standout. From July 3rd right through to July 14th, the swell is almost non-existent, with heights hovering at 0.3 ft or completely flat. The combined swell energy is almost always in the single digits or zero, like 3 (weak energy) at best, so you’re looking at a classic summer flat spell. There are mornings with glassy conditions, like July 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 11th, where the wind is off the ENE or ESE at 3 mph, and it’s dead calm – but there’s no swell to ride. It’s a heartbreaking tease.
Even when we get a tiny bump, like on July 15th with a 0.7 ft swell from the WSW at 6 seconds, the wind turns onshore in the afternoon, and the energy remains weak (5). The surf quality is consistently marked as poor. The same goes for July 18th, where we see a 1 ft swell from the SSW at a short 4-second period, but again, the energy is minimal (3 to 4) and conditions are messy.
For an area like this, with a beach/jetty setup and optimal swell from the SW, these blank runs are pretty normal when there’s no groundswell moving. The consistent glassy mornings do hint that if any real swell ever arrived, it’d be clean, but right now, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing on those breezy afternoons than paddle surfing. Crowds are often around, but honestly, there’s nothing to crowd for.
So, I can’t highlight a single standout here – it’s just a waiting game. Hang loose, but don’t hold your breath on this 16-day spread.
