The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about the 16-day outlook for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). I gotta be honest, the first week is a real grind.
Right now, the water is a balmy 82°, which is 5° warmer than normal for this time of year. That's a big anomaly, feels like a hot tub.
We've got a long, flat patch. From Monday the 24th all the way through the end of August, it's pretty much dead. You'll see some glassy mornings, like the 26th and 27th, but the swell is barely a ripple. The 27th of August morning has a glassy calm with a weak 1.0ft SSW swell and combined energy of just 9 – that's about as flat as it gets. The 28th is a little cleaner, but still tiny. It's a proper waiting game.
Then we get a tease on the 29th of August. A late-summer spike hits with a 6ft WSW swell, but the wind is howling onshore from the SW at 9-12 mph. Combined energy jumps to 455, which is a strong pulse, but it's a messy, blown-out situation. It's a beach/jetty setup, so honestly, with that much wind and a chunky swell, it's looking more like a kite surfer's playground than a paddle surfer's paradise.
The start of the second week looks a little better, but still small. The window finally opens up properly on the 4th of September. That Friday morning is the standout. We've got clean, glassy conditions with a 5ft SW groundswell at a long 9 seconds. The combined energy is a solid 370, showing some real push. This is a good, solid longboarder size for Forte dei Marmi and the light offshore ENE wind will keep it tidy. The 4th of September morning is the best session on offer, no question.
The following Saturday, the 5th of September, gets messy again with a bigger 7ft WSW swell and moderate onshore winds, so that's a pass. But then, the 6th of September Sunday morning is another gem. The swell has dropped back to a clean 3ft from the WSW, but the period is a long 10 seconds, and it's dead glassy. That's a sneaky good morning for a cruiser session.
After that, the energy fades out again. The 7th of September Monday morning has a little 3ft WSW groundswell with offshore wind, so it's rideable, but it's nothing to write home about. The rest of the period fizzles out into a flat spell.
So, to wrap it up: the best bet is Friday morning, September 4th with a clean 5ft SW swell. The next best is Sunday morning, September 6th for a glassy, smaller session. The rest of the time, you're mostly waiting. Hang in there.
