The Lowdown
Alright, I'm gonna level with you, folks. This is Rusty, and I've got to be straight with you: the next couple of weeks for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle. We're looking at a long, dry spell to start, so don't be in a rush to grab your board.
The first bit of anything that even resembles a wave doesn't show up until the tail end of the week starting August 18th. Before that, it's a whole lot of nothing. From now until the morning of the 18th, we're looking at a solid 10-day gap with basically no swell to speak of. The water is currently a balmy 83°F, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year, but that's about the only thing worth noting.
So, here's the deal. The only window that's even worth a mention is Tuesday, August 18th, through to Wednesday, August 19th. On Tuesday morning, we'll see a pulse of 4ft swell from the southwest, with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 103. It's small, but it's something. The wind will be a light easterly cross-offshore, which will keep the surface clean. It’s surfable, but it’s very ordinary. Definitely not a standout.
Wednesday morning, the 19th, sees a similar setup with 3ft from the WSW, 7-second period, and a light northeasterly offshore wind. That's a bit cleaner, but the energy is only 81. It's still just barely surfable.
After that, the swell fades back to nothing. For the rest of the forecast period, it's flat and clean but flat. There's nothing here that would get a surfer's heart pumping. This break is a beach and jetty setup, and for the size and quality on offer, a kite might have more fun than a surfer in that tiny Tuesday morning window.
Hang tight, check back in a week. The forecasts can change.
Rusty.
