The Lowdown
G'day, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you – this 16-day outlook for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) is a bit of a quiet one, with a long stretch of nothing much before a late buzz.
The water's sitting at a balmy 83°F, which is a whopping 6°F warmer than usual for this time of year. That's really unusual, so you'll be sweating in your wettie, but it's a nice problem to have.
We're looking at a real dry spell to kick things off. From Tuesday the 4th of August, all the way through to Saturday the 15th, it's just tiny dribbles. We're talking 0.7ft to 2ft of weak, short-period swell with combined energy barely cracking 30 (3-32). There's a few glassy mornings early on, like Thursday the 6th and Friday the 7th, but with nothing to ride, clean conditions don't count for much. It's a tough stretch for a paddle.
Sunday the 16th of August morning is where it finally gets interesting. We see a jump to 4ft of SW swell with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy hits 143 (moderate). The wind is glassy from the east. It's surfable, but the conditions are described as very ordinary. Still, it's the first real pulse.
The standout window arrives on Monday the 18th of August. Tuesday the 18th morning is "the one". We get 5ft of SW swell, a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy is a strong 306. The wind is a dead calm from the south, making for glassy conditions. This is the best on offer. It's a solid, clean, straight-up swell for the beach/jetty setup. It's not huge, so it's still fine for all levels, but for this forecast period, it's the clear winner.
Then Wednesday the 19th of August morning sees a bigger pulse of 7ft from the SW, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 589 (very strong). The wind is slight onshore from the SW, which keeps it from being perfect. It's powerful and a bit wind-affected, really only one for the experienced crew.
So, to sum it up: lots of flat days, a little window of hope around the 16th, but the real session to aim for is Tuesday the 18th of August with those clean, glassy 5ft waves. After that, Wednesday the 19th offers size but with less clean conditions.
Rusty.
