Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.

First off, the water is cooking at a toasty 84°F right now, and that’s a solid 7°F warmer than usual for this time of year – very unusual, so don’t expect a wetsuit. The bad news is, we’re looking at a pretty grim stretch to start. For the first several days, from Sunday the 2nd right through to Friday the 7th of August, there’s just nothing doing. The swell is tiny, mostly under 2 ft, with weak energy, and the periods are short and weak. You’ll see glassy conditions in the mornings, but it’s not surfable. We’re talking a full six-day drought.

The first real glimpse of anything rideable comes on Saturday the 8th of August. Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) wakes up with a 3 ft swell from the SW, period around 7 seconds, and though the swell energy is still modest, it’s glassy in the morning. It’s surfable but ordinary. The following morning, Sunday the 9th, is the best of the early lot. The swell pushes up to 5 ft from the SW, period still short at 7 seconds, but the energy climbs to moderate, and you’ve got glassy conditions. Clean, small, and beginner-friendly – but nothing to write home about.

Monday the 10th morning hangs in there with a 4 ft SW swell, 7-second period, moderate energy, and a clean cross-off breeze from the ENE. That’s the pick for the first week, but still only just surfable. After that, it drops right off again. The 11th through the 14th of August are mostly flat or tiny, with energy values in the single digits and zeros.

The second week does offer a little flicker. On Saturday the 15th of August, there’s a small 0.7 ft to 1.0 ft pulse from the WSW with a longer period of 8 seconds – not much size, but that period is a bit more interesting. Then on Sunday the 16th, the morning has a light offshore from the NE, clean, with a tiny 0.3 ft SW swell. Honestly, it’s still weak.

The best of the whole run, if you’re keen, lands on Monday the 17th of August. The morning is dead calm, glassy, with a 2 ft SW swell, 6-second period, and weak energy. It’s poor surf conditions according to the numbers, but it’s the biggest and cleanest window in the whole 16 days. The swell is small, the period is short, and the energy is weak – but if you’re desperate, that’s your moment.

Overall, this is a tough outlook. The swell is consistently small, the periods are short, and the energy barely ever gets moderate. The standout is barely a standout. Keep your expectations low, and maybe bring a kite if the wind picks up – this beach/jetty setup might be more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for most of this period.
