The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook for the local stretch is a tough one. We’re looking at a 16-day window that’s almost entirely flat, with just a tiny blip of surfable waves early on. It’s a long stretch of nothing, so don’t be holding your breath for any epic sessions.

The only real action is on Sunday, the 30th of August. We’ve got a small, weak swell pushing in at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille), a beach and jetty setup. The swell is coming from the WSW at about 3 ft, but it’s a short-period windswell of just 6 seconds, so it’ll be a bit crumbly. The real kicker is the wind – it’s an ENE breeze at 3 mph, which is offshore for this spot. That’ll keep the morning glassy and clean. The water is a very unusual 81°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year. The combined wave energy is weak, only 52, so you’ll be working for every little shoulders.

If you’re a beginner and you’re desperate for a paddle, Sunday morning is your only chance. The swell is tiny, less than 5 ft, so it’s not too big at all. Just don’t expect much push. After that, the surf drops off a cliff. Monday the 31st and Tuesday the 1st of September have a bit of that fading SW swell, but it’s down to 1 ft to 2 ft with no energy. You’ll be sitting on a flat ocean. Then from Wednesday the 2nd of September all the way through to the end of the forecast on Monday the 14th of September, it’s a complete drought. There are days with nothing but 0.0 ft swell and glassy, calm conditions. It’s a solid blank run of nearly two weeks with no recommendations.

Honestly, for the whole 16 days, the standout is that Sunday morning session, and it’s a weak one. There’s nothing else to get excited about. The spot is fairly consistent here, so this is a bit of a dry spell, but it tends not to stay this flat forever. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but for now, the board stays in the car.

Rusty.
