The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at the next stretch, just focusing on Forte dei Marmi (Pontille).
Right off the bat, we’ve got a tough run ahead. The water’s sitting at a very unusual 81°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – a real tropical bath. But don't get too excited, because for the first few days, there’s barely a ripple. From Tuesday the 25th right through to the middle of the following week, the swell energy is basically non-existent, with values down in the single digits (1) most days. It’s flat, and the combination of tiny swell and onshore wind in the afternoons means you’d be wasting your time.
We finally see a pulse of energy building through the end of August. Saturday the 29th kicks up, but that’s a no-go – the wind is straight onshore from the SW, and while the swell hits 6 ft with moderate energy (406), it’s going to be a messy, blown-out mess.
Sunday the 30th is the first half-decent window all week. Early morning offers a clean 4 ft swell from the SW with moderate energy (118), and a light offshore from the ENE. By the afternoon, the wind goes glassy, and the wave face drops to 3 ft with weak energy (74). It’s not a standout, but it’s the best you’ll get before the next flat spell. Conditions are "surfable but very ordinary" – which is about as optimistic as I can be.
After that, we slide back into another long, quiet stretch. From Monday the 31st through to the end of the first week of September, energy levels tank back down to single digits and zeros. It’s a real desert.
The long-range picture for Wednesday the 9th of September throws a bit of a curveball. The finder shows a massive 10 ft, 9-second swell from the WSW with very strong energy (1831). The wind is light offshore in the morning, so it’ll be clean, but the file also says the swell is predicted to be too big for this spot. At that size, with the period just 9 seconds, it’ll be a washing machine. This one is strictly for experts only, if anyone even gets in.
Honestly, the only day worth paddling out in this whole 16-day window is Sunday the 30th of August. It’s small, it’s weak, and it’s not going to blow your mind, but with clean conditions and glassy water, you can at least get a few long, slow lines on a longboard. The rest of the time, you’re looking at a lot of flat, windy coffee-stir.
