Table - best surf conditions forecast for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let me tell you what I’m seeing. It’s a pretty flat picture for a long stretch. For the first 12 days or so, we’ve got barely a ripple at Pontille, the beach and jetty setup here at Forte dei Marmi. The water is sitting at 78°, which is *much warmer than normal* for this time of year – over 4° above what you’d usually expect. It feels like bathwater, but there’s not a wave worth paddling for.
From Wednesday, July 8th, all the way through to the morning of Sunday, July 19th, it’s just tiny little knee-wobblers. The highest combined swell energy in that whole period hits just 8 (weak). You’ll see flat spells, glassy mornings, and a few light onshores in the afternoons, but nothing that breaks a foot. Don’t bother.
Then things finally start to wake up late on Sunday, July 19th. The afternoon swings in a 3ft SW swell with a 6-second period, and the combined energy climbs to 51 (still weak, but at least it’s something). Still, the wave comment calls it poor surf conditions, so it’s more of a sign that something is building.
Now listen, the real standout – and the only one worth marking on the calendar – is the morning of Monday, July 20th. Pontille suddenly lights up. We’ve got a 7ft swell from the SW, period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy jumps right up to 602 (moderate). That’s proper, solid, head-high to a bit overhead surf. And check the wind: a light cross-offshore breeze from the ENE at only 3 mph. That’ll keep it clean, maybe even a little glassy. The break is exposed to the SW, which matches the swell direction perfectly – that’s a good sign for shape. It will be big enough to have some punch, but at 7ft, it’s getting into expert territory; not one for beginners. The crowds here are listed as ‘often’ present, so expect company.
Every day after that drops off. The afternoon of the 20th gets a messy cross-onshore, and by Tuesday the 21st, onshore winds hit 19 mph, making it a blown-out mess. Wednesday the 22nd morning still has a 5ft SW swell with light offshore wind, which would be worth a look if you missed Monday, but the energy drops to 382, and it’s a step down. From there, it just fades into small, choppy leftovers over the next few days. The Monday morning is your only true standout. The rest is a waiting game.
Rusty.
