The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's heading our way for the next couple of weeks. Honestly, it's a bit of a flat spell to kick things off, so don't get your hopes up just yet.
We're looking at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) for the whole period, and the first real chance you'll have to even paddle out is on Friday the 21st of August. Even then, we're talking about some pretty ordinary conditions. The swell's only 2 ft from the SW with a short period, and while there's a chance of a thunderstorm, the wind is light and offshore in the morning, so it might clean up enough for a few grovelly ones. The wave energy is weak at 48.
Before that, from the 17th through to the 24th, it's pretty much a write-off. We're looking at tiny, weak swells under 3 ft and poor conditions. A lot of these days are blown out or glassy but just too small to do anything with. It's a proper summer lull.
However, keep your eye on Tuesday the 25th. That morning is the one true standout in this entire outlook. We see a jump in swell up to 4 ft from the WSW with a 7-second period. The key here is the 3 mph offshore wind from the ESE, which should leave the beach clean. The combined energy will be moderate at 195. For a beach/jetty setup like Pontille, that's about as good as it's going to get in this window. It won't be world-class, but for a Tuesday morning session, it’s actually surfable and clean.
After that, the swell tries to push up on the 26th, hitting 5 ft to 5 ft, but the wind swings onshore and messes it up, making it pretty sloppy. The rest of the run into September looks weak and onshore again, with nothing else to get excited about.
So, to sum it up: hold out for the morning of Tuesday the 25th of August. That's your best bet for a clean, rideable wave at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). The rest of the time, you might as well leave the board in the car.
