Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s shaping up for the next sixteen days.
Honestly, I’m looking at a long, flat spell to kick things off. We’ve got a real dry patch from now until almost the end of the month. The surf is just not on the menu for a good few weeks, with the ocean looking pretty sleepy. The only break on the radar is Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) , a beach-and-jetty setup that’s a beginner-friendly spot. The water is running at 78°, which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least it’ll be a nice temperature if you go for a swim.
For the first week and a half, from Friday the 10th right through to the morning of Saturday the 25th, it’s a total write-off. We’re talking minimal swell, if any, with combined energy readings barely scratching double digits, often just a measly 1 to 8. The winds are a mixed bag of glassy mornings, but the swell just isn’t there to back it up. It’s all "poor surf conditions" from the data, so don’t bother paddling out.
We finally see a flicker of hope on Saturday the 25th of July. The morning brings a 3ft swell from the SW, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 191, which is moderate. The wind is a glassy light easterly, so it’ll be clean. It’s surfable, but with a short period like that, it’s not going to be anything special. The afternoon sees that energy drop right back down to 81 and the wind turns onshore, so the morning is your only window. It’s not a standout, but it’s the first real chance you’ll get.
After that, the forecast looks like it slips back into the doldrums again. So, if you’re desperate for a paddle, the 25th of July early is your best bet. For now, the boards are staying in the shed.
Stay patient.
Rusty.
