The Lowdown

Right then, grab a coffee, this is a tough one to call. I’m looking at the whole 16-day window for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille), and honestly, I’m struggling to find anything to get excited about. The forecast is basically a long flat spell with barely a ripple to show for it.

We start off with a real dud. Monday the 3rd of August offers nothing but a tiny 0.3ft of swell, and that’s the story for the next week. The water is a balmy 83°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but you won’t be needing a wetsuit because you won’t be paddling out. The combined wave energy is a pathetic 1 (1), just a flat lake.

Tuesday the 4th and Wednesday the 5th are the same story – 1.0ft and 0.7ft of weak, short-period slop. A few mornings have a light offshore or glassy wind, which would be lovely if there was any wave to surf. But there isn’t. The swell is basically non-existent, with combined energy still in single digits.

We get a tiny pulse on Saturday the 8th, with the swell bumping up to 2ft from the SW, but it’s a messy onshore wind in the afternoon and the period is a pathetic 6 seconds. The energy only reaches 31 (31) – hardly enough to knock a seal off a rock. It’s the biggest offering of the entire outlook, but it’s still poor surf.

The rest of the first week and into the second is a dead loss. From the 9th right through to the 15th of August, we’ve got days of zeros and 0.3ft junk. The morning of Tuesday the 11th is glassy calm, but there’s literally no swell to ride.

There’s a tiny hint of something on the 16th and 17th of August, with a 0.3ft westerly swell and a period of 7 seconds, but again, the energy is 1 (1) or 2 (2). Not going to cut it.

To be brutally honest, this is a blank run. There are no standouts, no hidden gems, no sneaky swell. The combination of weak energy, tiny heights, and short periods means there’s nothing worth paddling out for. The whole 16-day window is a write-off for surf. If you’re desperate for a paddle, you’ll find a glassy lake, but that’s it.

Rusty.
