The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get real about the surf ahead at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). This stretch is a beach/jetty setup, and honestly, it’s going to be a long wait before anything worth paddling out for shows up.

The next week and a half is mostly flat and heartbreaking. We’re looking at tiny, weak swell – nothing over 0.6m until we get to Friday the 18th. The mornings are often glassy with light offshore breezes, but there’s just no push in the water. There’s a little bump Thursday the 17th morning with 0.3m and clean conditions, but it’s not enough to get excited about. The combined energy is weak – only 4 – and the period is short (4 seconds), so it’s just mush. That afternoon sees a slight increase to 0.6m, but the wind turns cross-onshore and it’s still poor.

Then, Friday the 18th morning is our one real highlight. We finally get some proper swell – 2.0m from the WSW with a 7-second period. The energy jumps to 646, which is moderate-strong, and the conditions are glassy. This is the standout of the whole run. However, that’s a solid 2m on a beach/jetty – that’s pushing it for beginners, and it’s getting into the territory where you want to know what you’re doing. The swell direction is WSW, which is what this spot wants, and with the glass, it’s going to be clean. The morning window is the go. By afternoon, it drops to 1.5m, the wind swings onshore, and the energy drops to 195 – still surfable but not nearly as good.

After that, it fades fast. Saturday the 19th morning has 0.9m, clean and light offshore, but the energy is only 85 – weak. It’s surfable but very ordinary. The rest of the run, from the 20th through the 29th, is basically flat. There are a few days with 0.1m to 0.3m slop, but nothing that’s going to have you rushing down the beach. The wind stays light and sometimes offshore, but there’s just no swell to work with.

So, if you’re keen, you’re looking at that Friday the 18th morning session. It’s a week and a half away, so it’s promising but not locked in. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there – just standard autumn water. Crowds could be a factor if it does come together, as this spot can get busy.

Honestly, for most of this period, the beach is going to be more interesting for a kite surfer than a surfer – especially the onshore afternoon breezes. But that Friday morning, with 2m from the southwest and glass, that’s your window. Don’t sleep on it.
