The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down the surf for the next couple weeks. It’s a tough one, so I’ll keep it real.
The overall pattern is a bummer. We’ve got a massive gap of flat, tiny waves, and the only bit of life is a short window around Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th. Even then, it’s not great.
The best of a bad bunch is Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) on Monday morning, 27 July. You’ll see a 4ft swell from the SW, with a 7-second period. The combined swell energy is moderate at 124. The wind is a light cross-off from the NNE at 3 mph, giving you clean conditions. The water is 84°F, which is much warmer than average for this time of year. It’s a beginner spot and fairly consistent, but with this tiny swell, it’s not exciting. The swell direction is SW, which is the right direction for this break. Expect crowds often.
On Sunday the 26th, there’s a 2ft swell from the S with a 6-second period early in the morning, but there’s a risk of thunderstorms. The wind is light cross-off, so it’s rideable, but only just. The energy is weak at 51.
The rest of the time is a flat spell. From Monday afternoon through the beginning of August, the combined energy is in the single digits or zero. You’ll see glassy mornings, but no swell to surf. The water stays warm, but you’ll be sitting on a board doing nothing.
The second week is just as dry. From the 1st of August, there are tiny 1ft pulses from the SW and SSE, but with periods of 3-4 seconds, it’s not worth it. The winds are light and glassy in the mornings, but without any wave energy, it’s a dead calm.
So, the only call is Monday morning the 27th at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) with the 4ft SW swell. Everything else is a no-go. It’s a flat run, so don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
