The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here, and I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch for surf in this neck of the woods. We're looking at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille) and the next couple of weeks are a real test of patience. The water is sitting at a very unusual 82°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, a real anomaly.

For the first ten days, honestly, it’s pretty much a bust. We’ve got a big gap with no real surf to speak of from now right through to the morning of September 19th. The swell energy is almost non-existent, and when there is a tiny pulse, the winds are often onshore or just messy. It’s the kind of stretch where you’re better off fixing a leaky wetsuit than checking the forecast.

The only faint glimmer of hope comes on the morning of Saturday, September 19th. We might see a tiny bump of 2ft from the S, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined wave energy is still very weak (72). The key here is the glassy conditions from an ENE breeze, which would make the most of that small, weak swell. It’s not going to be a classic, but if you’re desperate, that’s your window.

The following morning, Sunday, September 20th, offers a similar story – a 2ft SSW swell, 8-second period, with a clean offshore ENE wind (70 energy). It's still very ordinary, but those clean conditions are the only thing making it rideable.

After that, we slide back into a pattern of poor surf and weak, short-period swell. The beach/jetty setup here isn’t going to do you any favours with this kind of energy. Honestly, if you're into kiting, the afternoon onshore breezes might look more interesting than trying to paddle out on these tiny waves.

That's it from me. Hang tight, or find something else to do for a while.

Rusty.
