The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me tell you straight up, this is a tough one. We're looking at the next 16 days for this area, and I’ve gotta be honest with you, there’s not a lot to get excited about. The forecast is a long, dry spell for any decent waves.

Right now, and for the next week and a half, it’s basically flat. The first real sign of life doesn't show up until Thursday, the 6th of August. Before that, from Tuesday the 28th of July right through to Wednesday the 5th, we're looking at a massive gap with nothing surfable. The swell is tiny, mostly under 2 ft, with weak energy readings all in the single digits. You’d be dragging your board across sandbars.

The only break in the whole region is Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). It’s a beach and jetty setup, fairly consistent normally, but it’s just not getting any love from the ocean. The water is feeling way warmer than usual, sitting at 83°, which is a massive anomaly for this time of year.

Now, on Thursday morning, the 6th of August, we finally see something. A small SW swell pushes in, about 2 ft. The period is a short 7 seconds, so it’s weak windswell, but the combined energy (51) is the highest we’ll see all forecast. The wind is glassy from the east, dead calm. It’ll be surfable, but the conditions are described as very ordinary. It’s the only thing on offer, and honestly, it’s barely a standout. After that morning, it drops back to nothing again.

The rest of the second week, from the 7th of August onward, is a flat calm. Swell heights drop to zero, and the energy is nil. Honestly, for a beach setup like this with such small, weak swell and no real push, the conditions look more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. There just isn't the power.

It’s a real bummer, but sometimes the ocean just shuts down. It’s a long quiet period, but it won’t stay this way forever. Forecasts can change.

Stay patient, Rusty.
