The Lowdown

Alright, grab a coffee, let's talk about what's on offer around here.

Honestly, for the next couple of weeks, it's a quiet stretch for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). The wait for some decent waves is going to be a proper test of patience. We're looking at a solid gap with hardly any surf worth mentioning until the end of the first week of August.

The water is a balmy 84°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be cold while you're waiting.

The first real flicker of hope shows up on the morning of Monday, 27 July. The NE offshore wind will have things clean, and we'll see a tiny 2ft swell from the WSW, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy of the swells is weak, only registering 45, so it's not going to be pumping. It's surfable, but very ordinary. The afternoon gets chopped up by a cross-onshore wind, so the morning is your only window that day.

After that, it's back to flat, glassy mornings and small, onshore chop for days. There's a string of zero-surf days from the 31st of July through to the 2nd of August. The ocean is basically asleep.

The only other session that might get a tiny bit of interest is on the morning of Tuesday, 4 August. We might see a waist-high 3ft swell from the SW, with a period of 7 seconds. The ENE wind will be offshore, keeping it clean. The combined energy hits 67, which is still weak but it's the biggest number we've seen in the whole forecast. The swell is still small and the period is short, so it's not going to have any punch, but it's the best option on offer in a very quiet period.

To be honest, given the lack of swell and the small, weak energy, this setup looks more interesting for a kite or wing session than a paddle surf. There's just nothing to get excited about for the surfer.

Stay patient, keep an eye on the charts, and hopefully the forecasts change soon.

Rusty.
