The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks for Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). I gotta be straight with you – it's a grim start and we're looking at a long, dry spell before anything even thinks about showing up.

For the first five days, from Thursday the 3rd to Monday the 8th of September, this place is a complete flat spell. The combined energy is zero (0) on most days, with some tiny 0.3 ft to 1 ft dribble that's barely a ripple. Water temps are sitting at a very unusual 81°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, but that's the only thing noteworthy. There's simply no surf to be had. You're better off finding a lake or a pool.

Then we hit a bit of a pulse, but to be honest, it's still nothing to write home about. The first real sign of life comes on Wednesday the 9th of September. The morning is a bit messy with a cross-shore wind, but it picks up a 4 ft swell from the SW with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (105) in the morning, then jumps up to 140 by the afternoon. The wind swings offshore from the NE at 6 mph in the afternoon, cleaning things up. The swell is small, but it's the best we'll see for a while. Still, the wave comment says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," so don't expect gems.

Thursday the 10th has a smaller 2 ft leftover from the WSW with a longer period of 9 seconds but the energy drops to 46. The wind is offshore in the morning, so it'll be clean, but it's tiny. The rest of that week and into the next is a mix of tiny swells and flat spells with a few more clean moments, like the 3 ft from the SW on Saturday the 12th, but again, nothing that stands out.

The real story here is the long gap. After a little bump on the 9th, it pretty much flatlines again. The last few days of the forecast from the 14th to the 18th of September are back to zeros and 0.3 ft of nothing. There's a tiny 0.3 ft glassy day on the 18th, but you'd be scraping the bottom of the barrel. For a spot that's fairly consistent, this is a rough run. The break is a beach/jetty setup, so with this kind of weak, small swell and occasional onshore wind, it's honestly more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer right now.

The only slight highlight I can offer is the Wednesday afternoon (9th of September) at Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). It's not a standout by any means, but it's the only time we get a chest-high swell (4 ft) from the SW with a clean offshore wind. The crowd is listed as "often," so you won't be alone, but for this region, it's the one window where you might get a fun little wave. Everything else is a waiting game.

Rusty.
