The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at the stretch of coast we’ve got coming up.
To be straight with you, the next 16 days are a tough watch for surfers around Forte dei Marmi (Pontille). The wave energy is next to nothing for the whole run. We’re looking at a long, flat spell with only tiny bumps on offer. The combined energy figures are all in the single digits or zero, which tells you the ocean is just not putting out any power.
The water is sitting at a warm 84°F on the 31st of July, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so you’ll be comfortable if you’re just floating around, but that’s about it.
Friday the 31st of July starts us off with a glassy morning, but the swell is only 0.7ft from the WSW with a period of 4 seconds (combined energy: 1). That’s barely a ripple. The afternoon goes cross-on with a tiny 1.0ft. Saturday the 1st of August sees a slight bump to 2ft on the Saturday morning under glassy conditions, but the period is still short at 5 seconds, and the energy is only 13. It’s poor surf, no doubt about it.
From the 4th of August through the 6th, the numbers drop to zero swell for a couple of days. Then from the 7th of August onward, we get a few mornings with 1ft to 2ft (SW, 5 sec) and combined energy in the low teens at best. The 9th of August has a clean morning with offshore wind from the NE and 1.0ft, but at this size, it’s really just a lake paddle. The 10th of August morning sees a similar setup with offshore wind and 1.0ft from the WSW, but again, nothing to get excited about.
Honestly, there is not a single standout session in this whole forecast. The swell is too small and weak to be rideable on a proper surfboard. The best you can hope for is a tiny, clean ripple on the mornings with offshore or glassy wind, but it’s strictly for beginners on a foamie, or just a morning swim. Given the persistent small onshore wind in the afternoons, this setup actually looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, if you've got the gear.
Hold tight, folks. The forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a solid 16-day blank.
