Ewa Beach Park Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into the local surf outlook for this stretch of coast.

Right off the bat, it’s a bit of a rough start. The first few days are looking pretty grim for a proper paddle session. We’ve got some swell around, but the wind is just a mess – it’s hammering from the ENE, cross-shore with a nasty chop, making it lumpy and uninviting. The water temperature is sitting at 80°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The early part of the week, from Sunday the 19th through to Wednesday the 22nd, is a write-off. The swell is small and weak, and the wind is just too strong to make anything of it. The combined wave energy is moderate, but it’s all messy. You’re better off staying home.

Things start to look a little more interesting around Tuesday the 28th of July. The wind finally eases back, and we get a gentler breeze. The swell picks up to 6ft from the ENE, with a period of 13 seconds. That’s a decent groundswell, but it’s still a bit cross-shore. The combined energy is strong (1521), and the Tuesday afternoon session even cleans up a bit with a cross-offshore wind. Still, it’s only marginal – not quite the gem we’re after.

But then, hold onto your board. Wednesday the 29th of July is where it gets interesting. The wind drops out completely. We’re talking glassy conditions in the afternoon with a light NNW breeze. The swell is 4ft from the ENE, with an 11-second period, and the combined energy is moderate (629). This is the kind of day you wait for – clean, glassy, and the waves will be proper. It’s a standout for the cleanest conditions on offer.

And then, just when you think it’s over, Friday the 31st of July throws a real curveball. The wind goes dead calm – glassy again – and we get a 4ft swell from the south with an 11-second period. The combined energy is strong (1238), and the forecast says it’s excellent for experienced surfers. This is the other standout. The swell direction is a bit different, but with zero wind, it’s going to be a special session for those who know what they’re doing.

The rest of the first week of August is a bit of a mixed bag. The wind picks up again, and the swell gets a bit lumpy and short-period. Not worth getting too excited about. The long-range stuff is promising but less certain.

So, to sum it up: the best bets are Wednesday the 29th afternoon for the glassy, clean conditions, and Friday the 31st afternoon for the glassy, powerful south swell. The rest of the 16-day window has a lot of blowy, lumpy days, but these two windows are the real deal. The surf is there, but it’s going to take a bit of patience to get the good ones.
