The Lowdown
Alright, mate. Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days for Dromi (Ashdod) are a tough watch. There’s nothing that’s going to get the heart racing. We’ve got a long quiet stretch stretching from Sunday, August 23rd, all the way through to the morning of Sunday, September 7th, with only one morning that even hints at being borderline. That’s a solid two weeks of barely a ripple.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, so you won’t need a steamer, but you’ll be doing a lot of waiting.
The first real chance, and I’m using the word loosely, is on Sunday morning, August 30th. The swell is a tiny 3 ft from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 82, so it’s struggling to make any shape. The cross-onshore wind is light, but it’s enough to mess up what little surface there is. It’s listed as marginal, and honestly, it’s a day for the longboard if you’re desperate to get wet.
The only other faint glimmer is on Monday morning, September 7th. We see a bump in the swell to 4 ft from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds and combined energy of 179. That’s the most energy we’ll see all period. But the wind is a cross-onshore breeze at 9 mph, making it choppy. The forecast says poor surf conditions. It’s a beach break, and with that wind and small, weak swell, it’s going to be a bit of a mess. For a beginner, 4 ft is still manageable, but the quality just isn’t there.
The rest of the fortnight is a graveyard of flat spells and weak, short-period wind swell. We’ve got a few glassy mornings, like on August 25th, 26th, and 31st, but the swell is only 1 ft to 2 ft—barely enough to break over your fin. You’d spend more time floating than surfing.
Bottom line: there’s no standout here. The swell is consistently small, the period is short, and the wind is rarely your friend. For the first week, it’s a complete write-off. The second week offers a tiny bit more hope with that 4 ft day on the 7th, but don’t get your hopes up. If you’re desperate, that’s your window. Otherwise, keep the board in the car and the wax in the cupboard.
Rusty.
