The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.
To be straight with you, the outlook for Chiavari Entella (Italy) is a grim one. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with barely a ripple worth paddling for. The first few days have a little bit of swell, but it’s weak and messy, and after that, it just flatlines. There’s a big gap of nothing from the 14th of September all the way through to the 24th, with only a few tiny, unridable pulses in between. It’s one of those periods where the sand might as well be dry.
The best of a bad bunch is the morning of Thursday the 12th of September. We’ve got a tiny 2ft swell from the SW, with a period of 7 seconds – that’s short-period wind swell, nothing with any grunt. The combined energy is a paltry 38 (weak). The real highlight is the wind: it’s a clean offshore from the NE at 6 mph. That will keep the surface glassy, but with waves that small, it’s going to be a grovel for the longboard or a foamie. The water is a very unusual 82°, which is far warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won’t need a wetsuit. It’s a beginner spot, and with crowds possible, it might be a few folks out there scratching for the same ankle-biters.
Friday morning the 13th is a write-off, with the swell dropping to 0.7ft.
Honestly, mate, there’s nothing here to get excited about. The river break is fairly consistent in general, but this forecast is a dead loss. The setups are too weak, the energy is too low, and the gaps are too long. It’s a blank run, plain and simple.
Rusty.
