The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat for the most part.
We’re looking at Chiavari Entella out there, and honestly, for the next 16 days, it’s a real struggle to find a wave. The water temp is sitting at 82°F which is much warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least it’ll be a nice swim if nothing else.
The whole first week is a write-off. From Sunday, the 6th of September right through to Saturday the 12th, we’re seeing nothing but tiny, weak swells. The combined energy barely breaks out of single digits, and most days it’s a flat zero. The wind is often offshore or glassy, which is a tease, but there’s just no swell to work with. You’ll get the odd 1ft to 1ft from the SW or SE, but with periods of 4 to 5 seconds, it’s not worth paddling out for.
We’ve got a long gap of very meager surf. The first real hint of a pulse shows up on the morning of the 15th of September. A 1ft SW swell with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 20. That’s still tiny, but at least it’s something. The wind is offshore from the NE, so it’ll be clean. The afternoon after that is glassy with the same 1ft SW swell. This is the most promising the whole 16-day window gets, and I’m calling it the standout purely because it’s the only real pulse of energy we see. The river mouth at Chiavari Entella is a fairly consistent spot, so it’s not totally hopeless, but a 1ft wave is for the longboard or the foiler, and even then, it’s a gamble. The crowd can be around sometimes, but I doubt anyone will be out for this.
After that, it drops straight back to flat and near-flat conditions for the rest of the period. The 16th of September morning has a 0.7ft SSE swell, and the 17th has a 0.7ft WSW swell, but again, it’s just not enough to get excited about.
So, the call is pretty grim. If you’re desperate, the 15th of September morning is your best shot, but manage expectations. For the rest of us, it’s a good time to check the wax stash and wait for the forecasts to change. This area tends to get a bit of a pulse eventually, so don’t give up hope.
