The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a tough one. We’re looking at a 16-day window for the Chiavari Entella (Italy) stretch, and honestly, it’s mostly a tale of flat, wind-battered, or tiny conditions. The combined swell energy barely cracks double digits for most of the first two weeks, staying well under 100 (weak energy) for the vast majority of the runs. The few moments where it climbs a little are still underwhelming.
We’ve got a big gap of no real surf to recommend from the start. The first few days, from Tuesday 4th August right through to Friday the 14th, are basically a write-off. You’ll see the odd tiny 0.3ft or 0.6ft pulse, but with short periods of 4-8 seconds and poor wind, it’s not worth paddling out for. The water temperature here is about average for the time of year, nothing unusual.
The only time things start to get interesting is in the second week. On Saturday 15th August, the morning brings a little bump of 3ft from the SSW with a clean offshore wind. The combined energy hits 45 (still weak), but it’s the most promising-looking morning of the whole run. The afternoon that same day is glassy with 2ft from the SSW – that’s a proper window of clean, tiny waves for a longboard or a foiler.
The real standout, if you can call it that, is Sunday 16th August morning. We’ve got 3ft from the S with a 6-second period, and the combined energy finally climbs to 108 (moderate energy). The wind is cross-offshore and clean. It’s not big, but it’s the most surfable wave of the entire 16 days. The period is short, so expect a bit of a bumpy, close-out feel, but it’s better than nothing. Monday 17th August morning is also worth a mention with 2ft from the SW and a 9-second period, combined energy of 76 (weak energy), and clean cross-off wind.
After that, it fades back into the tiny stuff. Honestly, for the first 12 days, you’d be better off doing something else. The second week holds a couple of small windows, but don’t expect any barrels. It’s a lean spell.
Rusty.
