The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get real about the next couple of weeks. It’s looking pretty grim for most of it, but there is a glimmer of hope if you’re patient.
Our first real look at a wave is Saturday the 22nd. The morning has a clean cross-off breeze with surf around 5ft from the SW. It’s surfable, but it’s mediocre. The energy is weak, only 255, and the swell is short-period at 8 seconds, so it won’t have much push. That’s the only thing resembling a wave until we hit a big, flat dead zone.
From Sunday the 23rd through Friday the 28th, it’s just about done. We're talking days with nothing—flat, knee-high dribble. It’s a long, boring stretch. The water temp is a weird 83°, which is nearly 7° warmer than normal for this time of year. It's warm, but with no waves, it doesn't matter much.
Then, on Friday the 28th, things wake up. We’ve got a solid SW pulse, with surf hitting 8ft in the morning and 7ft in the afternoon. The energy jumps to 783, which is powerful. But the wind is gonna be on it, blowing onshore from the SSW at 12-15 mph. That’s going to chop it up and make it messy. For most of us, it’s a day to watch from the beach. Maybe a few experts will get out there, but it won’t be clean.
After that, we settle back down. Saturday the 29th morning looks a bit cleaner, with a NE offshore breeze and 4ft of SW swell. The energy is down to 250, though, so it’ll be a bit softer.
The real standout, the one to wait for, is Friday the 4th of September. The morning forecast shows a clean NW wind with 6ft of SW swell. The energy is a solid 420, and while the period is still on the short side at 7 seconds, that offshore wind will make it line up nicely at the river mouth. That’s your best chance for a clean, proper session. The wind switches to cross-onshore in the afternoon, so hit it early.
The next day, Saturday the 5th, it backs off, but you’ll still find a clean 4ft wave in the morning, just with less energy. It’s a smaller, fun option.
So, the long-range call is for that first week of September. It’s a few days out, so don’t book it in stone yet, but it’s the best hope we’ve got. Until then, it’s flat, warm, and quiet. Hang in there.
Rusty.
