The Lowdown
Rusty here. Lookin' at the forecast, it's a long dry run for us. The first real chance of a wave doesn't show up until Monday July 27th – that's more than a week away. For Chiavari Entella (Italy), a river mouth like this, getting skunked for a week or so in summer is pretty normal, so don't sweat it too much. Water temps are a very unusual 84°, which is about 8° warmer than average – that's board shorts and a rash guard territory.
That Monday morning the 27th, a tiny 3ft SW swell shows up with an 8 second period. Combined swell energy is weak (96). The wind is NNE at about 6 mph, putting it offshore so it'll be clean. It's surfable but ordinary. It's not a classic, but it's the only wave we've got on offer for a while.
After that, we're back to nothing. Flat. The next little wisp of energy is Tuesday August 4th with a 2ft SE swell, but the period is only 4 seconds – that's just wind slop, not a proper wave. Combined energy is very weak (17). With that short period and small size it's more interesting for a kite than a surfboard. The rest of the 16 days is a lot of glassy mornings with zero swell. Not much to get excited about. But hey, forecasts change and the dry spells don't last forever around here.
Rusty.
