The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: this 16-day stretch for the Chiavari Entella river mouth is looking pretty grim for surf. We’ve got a long gap of flat, poor conditions with no real standouts. The first hint of anything rideable doesn’t show up until Sunday, August 30th, and even then, it’s barely worth a mention.
We start with a long, flat spell. Friday, August 28th and Saturday, August 29th are a write-off – tiny, crummy waves with onshore or cross-shore wind messing up what little there is. The combined swell energy is weak, but that energy doesn't mean anything when the wind is junk.
Finally, on Sunday, August 30th, we get a brief window. A morning sesh with clean conditions as a light offshore breeze from the NE (6 mph) cleans up ankle-to-knee high 3 ft SW swell. The period is short at 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit lumpy and weak, but it's the only time we see "surfable waves" in the whole outlook. The water temp here is about average for the time of year. After that, the surf dies completely, with days of flat, glassy conditions right through to the end of the second week. From August 31st right through to September 12th, we’re looking at near-zero wave energy and at best a tiny, clean ripple.
Honestly, there’s nothing to get excited about. If you’re desperate for a paddle, that Sunday morning is your only shot, but even then, it’s for beginners only. For the rest of the fortnight, the river mouth is going to be a mirror. The setup looks far more interesting for a SUP or a kayak than a surfboard.
Keep an eye on the forecasts, but for now, this is a classic blank run for the area.
Rusty.
