G'day, Rusty here. I've got to be straight with you – if you're looking to paddle out around here, you're in for a tough stretch. The pattern for the next couple of weeks is almost empty. For the entire 16-day outlook, there's barely a ripple to get excited about. The first sign of anything even remotely surfable doesn't show up until Monday morning, July 06, with a tiny 1 ft wave – and even then, it's pretty forgettable. There are massive gaps with nothing on offer at all, so don't hold your breath.
Let's start with Monday, July 06. There's a bit of life in the morning at Cannes. The water is sitting at a very unusual 78°F, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – that's a solid 7°F above average, which is a real talking point. The swell is from the SE at a pathetic 1 ft with a period of just 3 seconds, meaning it's weak and wobbly. The combined wave energy is only 3, which is basically nothing. The wind is a gentle offshore cross-off from the ESE at 6 mph, so it will be clean, but the surf is barely breaking. It's a beginner spot that rarely breaks anyway, and with waves this small, it's a flat-out skip.
Tuesday morning, July 06, brings glassy conditions with no swell, and the pattern of flat, clean, but surf-less days continues right through until Friday morning, July 17. You'll see mornings with a light offshore or glassy wind, and afternoons with a gentle breeze, but the swell just isn't there. It's more of a sunbaking and swimming stretch than a surf one.
Then on Friday morning, July 17, we get another tiny pulse. A 1 ft glassy wave from the SW with a period of 3 seconds and a combined energy of just 2. The wind is glassy – dead calm – so it'll be smooth as a mirror, but you're looking at ankle-biters at best.
There's another little bump on Sunday, July 19, with a 0.7 ft SSW swell in the morning and a 1 ft S swell by the afternoon. Wind is cross-off at 12 mph in the afternoon, keeping it clean, but the energy is still only 2–3. This is the most size we've seen in a week, but it's still tiny.
Honestly, folks, there's no standout here. Nothing is worth paddling out for. If you're desperate, the cleanest conditions are all these glassy mornings, but without swell, it's just a flat lake. This is one of those times where the area just goes quiet, and it's normal for a spot this inconsistent. I'd save your wax and check back in a week or so. Forecasts can change.
Rusty.
