Table - best surf conditions forecast for Caballeros over the next 16 days.
Right, folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for the Caballeros region over the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, I gotta be honest with you – this isn't a classic run of form. The whole 16-day window is peppered with "marginal" conditions, and there's no standout day that's gonna have you racing to get the wetsuit on. There's surf on offer, but it's a bit of a grind, with a lot of cross-onshore wind keeping things from getting really clean. The first real recommendation pops up Friday afternoon, July 10th.
Alright, let's get into it. The first bit of action we see is Friday arvo, July 10th, at Caballeros, a reef break. We're looking at a 5ft swell from the SW, with a period of 14 seconds – that's a long-period groundswell, which means it'll have some punch and decent shape for a reef. The combined energy is moderate at 891. The wind is a light cross-onshore from the SSW at 6 mph, which is light enough but still blows a bit of texture on the face. The water temp is sitting at 70°, which is a whopping 7° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's a proper anomaly, so you'll be in for a surprisingly warm session.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th keep things consistent in size, around 4ft to 4ft from the SSW, but that cross-onshore wind is still hanging around. The conditions are okay, but not magic. The energy dips a bit, with the combined energy dropping to the 600-800 range.
Come Monday the 13th, we get a little bump in the morning – 5ft from the SSW with a 15-second period, and the combined energy jumps up to 1118, which is moderate to strong. The wind is still cross-onshore though, so it's a bit of a tease. That afternoon, the swell actually drops back to 3ft.
The rest of the first week and into the second week, from July 14th to the 18th, is a real slog. We're stuck in a pattern of 3ft to 5ft swell with the same persistent light cross-onshore breeze. The wave comment is consistently "marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions." The energy is in the moderate range, but nothing to write home about. The real highlight of this whole period, if you can call it that, is going to be Sunday the 19th. The morning shows a 6ft swell from the SW, with a combined energy of 1316, and the afternoon jumps to 7ft from the SSW at 1539 energy. That's the biggest swell of the whole forecast. But... the wind is still cross-onshore, and the afternoon picks up a gentle breeze at 9 mph, making it fairly choppy. For a 7ft swell, that's going to be a messy, lumpy affair. This is really only for the experts, and even then, it's not going to be pretty. For a beach-and-reef setup like this, the strong, bumpy conditions might actually be more interesting for kite surfing than a clean paddle.
The following days, the 20th through the 24th, we see a bit of a drop-off, with swell sizes ranging from 3ft to 7ft, but the wind is still a factor. The very end of the run, on the 25th, sees a tiny 2ft swell from the SW, but with a very long 19-second period. That's a real long-period groundswell, which on a reef break like Caballeros could offer some clean, lined-up waves, but the size is just too small to get excited about.
So, the bottom line? There's no standout session here. The best bet is probably the morning of Monday the 13th, or the morning of Sunday the 19th if you're an expert looking for a bit more size and don't mind the chop. But honestly, keep your expectations low. The forecasts can change, so don't write the whole thing off just yet.
Rusty, signing off.
