Brandon's Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let's break down what's on offer at Brandon's for the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, it's looking pretty bleak. There's a long stretch of poor conditions, and not much to get stoked about. For the first week, it's mostly small, weak, and messy.

The first few days, we're looking at tiny swell, around 2ft to 4ft from the ESE and E, with a short period of 7 seconds. The wind is cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean, but there's just no power. The combined energy is weak, so you'd be working hard for nothing.

Sunday the 9th stays small and weak, with a bit of crosswind adding some chop. Not worth it.

The following week doesn't offer much relief. There's a little pulse on Wednesday the 12th with 5ft from the east, but the period is still a short 7 seconds, and the wind is a fresh 30 km/h cross-offshore. The energy is moderate, but it's still not shaping up well.

Then we hit a dead zone from Thursday the 13th afternoon right through to Saturday the 16th morning, with no swell at all. That's a couple of days with zero surf. The wind is howling from the ENE at 35 km/h, so even if there was swell, it'd be a battle.

Now, Thursday the 14th is a strange one. We've got a big jump in size, with 12ft from the east at 10 seconds. That's a serious amount of energy, over 2200, but it's accompanied by a near gale crosswind. The wave comment says "poor surf conditions" and that wind will make it a washing machine. For most, this is going to be too big and too messy. It's more of a kite-surfing day than a paddle session. The morning has that strong crosswind, and the afternoon is a bit smaller at 8ft but still windy.

Monday the 17th morning is the only time in the whole run that gets a score of 1, which is "marginal". We see 6ft from the east at 10 seconds, with a moderate crosswind. The energy is solid at 647, so there's some grunt, but the crosswind is going to mess up the face. It's not a write-off, but it's not a standout either.

After that, we're back to small stuff again. The 18th and 19th have some waist-high waves, around 5ft from the east, with clean conditions, but the period is short and the energy is only moderate.

The rest of the run into the 23rd is more of the same: small, short-period swell with clean but unexciting conditions.

So, what's the best of a bad bunch? Honestly, if you're desperate, the morning of Monday the 17th is your only real chance. It's got the most size and energy of anything that isn't blown out. But it's a marginal call. For the rest, you're better off waiting for the next system. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it, but right now, it's a quiet period for Brandon's.
