Table - best surf conditions forecast for Blokken over the next 16 days.
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's be straight with you. Looking at the charts for our local stretch, it's a bit of a tough stretch ahead. The water is a toasty 69°, which is a whopping 8° warmer than normal for this time of year – that's seriously unusual, so you can leave the booties at home.
But the waves? For the first week and a half, it's basically a flat spell. We're looking at a solid gap from now until around the 20th of July with nothing worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the energy readings are in the single digits or low double-digits – that's just weak, weak, weak. There's a few mornings with clean conditions and cross-off breezes, but with swell heights of 0.7ft to 2ft, it's a lake, not a surf break.
Finally, things start to look a little more interesting around the 20th of July. Monday the 20th brings a pulse of 4ft swell from the north, with a period of 6 seconds. The wind is a gentle cross-onshore, but the energy is standing up at 122 (moderate). It's still not ideal, but it's the first real sign of life. It gets a bit bigger into the afternoon, hitting 5ft, though the wind picks up to a fresh breeze and makes things lumpy. This isn't a standout, but it's the first thing to get your hopes up.
The next bump comes Tuesday the 21st of July. The swell shifts a touch more west to the NNW at 4ft, and the period stretches to 8 seconds. The energy is building to a solid 167. The wind is a moderate cross-shore, so it'll be a bit jumbled with a cross-chop. This is probably the best we get right now, but it's still not clean.
After that, it's back to small, choppy, and messy for the rest of the week. The only real highlight is Thursday the 23rd of July morning. The wind swings to a light offshore from the ENE, giving us clean conditions. The swell is a tiny 2ft from the NNW with a 7-second period and energy of 48. It's small, but clean. You'd need a longboard and low expectations, but it'll be the best-looking surf of the whole period.
So, to sum it up: we've got a long, flat, and windy wait. The 20th of July is the first sign of life, but the 23rd of July morning is the one clean window we've got for a small, fun session. Don't hold your breath for anything else.
Rusty.
