Alright folks, Rusty here, checkin’ in with the local outlook for the next couple of weeks. Let’s get straight into it.
Well, I gotta be honest with you, looking at this stretch ahead for Blokken, it’s a proper tough run. We’re kicking off now, but the first week and a half is pretty much a write-off. From the 13th right through until around the 22nd, we’ve got next to nothing happening. The swell is tiny, the wind is mostly cross or cross-on, and the water is a mess. There are about ten days there where you’d be better off doing literally anything else. The energy levels are pitiful, mostly down in the single digits and teens (e.g. 15 to 63), with a quick bump of moderate energy around the 19th and 20th (up to 270) but it’s all blown out by a stiff north breeze. It’s just not worth paddling out.
Alright, so where’s the hope? The first real glimmer comes on Sunday, the 27th of July. That Monday morning we’ve got a bit of a pulse: a 5ft swell from the WSW, mixing with a 6-second period, giving us moderate energy (122). The wind is a fresh cross-shore from the southwest, which is better, but it’ll be lumpy. Still, by then you’ll be so desperate for a wave it might just have to do.
But the standout – the one to keep an eye on – is Tuesday, the 28th of July. It’s a long way off, so treat it as a hopeful tip. We’ve got a 5ft swell from the west with a 6-second period, and the combined energy is sitting at a moderate 141. The wind is a fresh cross-shore from the southwest, again lumpy but manageable. This is the most solid looking period in the whole forecast, with the best size and direction combo for Blokken. It’s for the experts though – that 5ft with a messy cross-chop will be a handful. For the rest of us, the whole two weeks is looking bleak.
Keep an eye on those forecasts, they might shift. But right now? It’s a long wait for a so-so window.
Rusty.
