Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let’s talk Blokken. I’ve looked over the whole 16-day run and, to be honest, it’s a tough stretch. There are going to be plenty of days where it’s just not worth dragging the board out. We’ve got a real gap here – from now through to late July, there’s barely a session that’s worth a crack. Most of the time you’re looking at poor surf conditions with onshore or cross-onshore winds, and small, short-period windswell. The combined energy is often in the weak range, like 35 or 79, and that tells the story.
From July 5th through to July 12th, it’s all very marginal. The swell is tiny, mostly around 1.0 ft to 2 ft, with periods between 4 and 7 seconds. Winds are moderate to fresh, and it’s lumpy and choppy. Not a single session gets a score, and the wave comment is “poor surf conditions” all the way. You can forget about it.
Around July 13th, we see a bit of a bump. There’s a 4 ft swell from the north on Monday morning, with a period of 5 seconds. The combined energy hits 85, which is just into the moderate zone. But it’s a beach break with a fresh cross-onshore wind, so it’ll be a messy, choppy mess. Not recommended for anyone but the most desperate.
Then there’s a blip on July 14th, Tuesday morning. The wind swings to a light cross-offshore from the ENE, and the wave comment actually says “clean.” The swell is only 2 ft from the north, though, with a 6-second period. It’s small, but at least it’ll look tidy. That’s probably your best window in the whole forecast, and it’s still barely a rideable option.
After that, we’re back to flat or junk. July 15th to 18th is a dead zone – either no swell at all or tiny windswell with lumpy cross-chop. On July 18th, Saturday afternoon, there’s a 4 ft north swell with a 5-second period and onshore wind, but it’s just a messy closeout.
Looking way out to July 20th, Monday morning, there’s a 4 ft swell from the southwest with a 5-second period and onshore wind. The combined energy is 64, still weak. It’s a long way off, so keep an eye on it, but as it stands, there’s nothing to get excited about.
For breaks more than a week away, like July 20th, take it with a pinch of salt. The near-term calls are more reliable, and they’re telling me to go find something else to do. This place can fire, but this run is a write-off.
Signing off, Rusty.
