The Lowdown
Alright surfers, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – I’ve scanned the charts for the next 16 days and honestly, it’s a total flat spell for the most part. We’re looking at a long stretch of poor surf quality with no real standout options. The swell is small, the wind is messy, and it’s one of those times where you might be better off tuning the boards or going for a paddle on a lake.
Starting off on Wednesday 15 July, we’ve got minimal swell at Blokken coming in at just 2 ft from the north, but the wind is a cross-shore at 12 mph and the water is a very unusual 70° – that’s 9° warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a real anomaly. The combined energy is a weak 26, so there’s hardly any power. This pattern of poor conditions and small, short-period northerly swell (5 seconds) hangs around for days. From Thursday 16 July right through to the end of the month, every session is rated as poor. The swell height barely pushes over 3 ft, and when it does, like on Sunday 19 July with a 4 ft swell from the NNW, the wind is a fresh cross-onshore, making it lumpy and choppy. The combined energy stays weak, mostly in the double digits, with a brief bump to 142 on Sunday afternoon – still not enough to save it.
There’s a glimmer of hope on Saturday 25 July and Sunday 26 July. On the 25th, we get a light onshore breeze from the NW at 6 mph, with a tiny 2 ft to 2 ft north swell, but the period is short. Then on Sunday 26 July morning, the wind turns offshore from the ENE at 3 mph, and the wave comment says "clean." Unfortunately, the swell is only 1 ft, combined energy of 6, so it’s barely a ripple. That’s more of a waft than a wave.
The best conditions in the whole outlook come on Thursday 30 July morning. A glassy, calm wind from the WSW at 0 mph, with a 2 ft swell from the WSW. That’s clean, but it’s tiny. Combined energy is just 14. For a skilled longboarder or a SUP, there might be a few fun little shoulders, but don’t expect much.
Overall, this is a blank run. The spot is inconsistent, and the forecasts show no real power. For the next two weeks, it’s about as flat as it gets. Don’t hold your breath – it often tends to stay poor here for stretches, but forecasts can change. Keep an eye out, but for now, I’d say it’s a dry spell.
