The Lowdown
Alright, let's get real for a minute. The next couple of weeks are looking pretty grim for a paddle. We’ve got a big fat hole of nothing at the start, so don't bother waxing up just yet.
Starting Thursday the 20th of August, it's a write-off. There’s some 4ft swell from the WSW, but it’s getting torn up by a fresh cross-shore wind. Total junk. Friday and Saturday keep that 4 to 5ft of NNW swell, but the wind is cross-on and messy. Not worth the drive.
The following week, the wind cleans up a bit with some light offshore breezes, but the swell completely disappears. Monday the 24th has a weak 2ft N swell, and it shrinks from there. By Wednesday the 26th, you're looking at knee-high slop of about 0.6ft to 1ft. The combined energy is in the single digits, so it’s basically a swimming pool. That dead run goes from Thursday the 20th all the way to the end of August. You'll be surfing sandbars.
The first few days of September don't offer much either. The 1st and 2nd have some 3 to 3ft WSW swell, but the wind is onshore or cross-on, keeping it choppy and unappealing.
But hold on. Friday the 4th of September is the one to circle on the calendar. We’re looking at a solid 8ft swell from the WNW, with combined energy hitting 644 – that's a proper pulse. And the wind is set to be blowing clean offshore from the south. At *Blokken*, that size is strictly for the experienced crew. 8ft on an exposed break is no joke. It’s a long way out, so forecasts can change, but if it comes together, that’s the only real session in this whole outlook. The swell direction isn't perfect for Blokken, but clean offshore wind on a big swell is a recipe for something special, even if the waves might be a bit straight. For everyone else, it’s a waiting game.
So to sum it up: the next two weeks are mostly a bust. The only real, serious surf is that big, clean groundswell on the 4th of September for the experts. The rest of us are on a beach holiday.
