Table - best surf conditions forecast for Blokken over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – for the next 16 days, the outlook for Blokken is a tough one. It’s a long stretch of mostly poor surf conditions, with a few interesting pulses right at the very end that are worth keeping an eye on.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a pretty big gap of nothing worthwhile. From now through most of the month, the consistent message is poor surf. The earliest we see any real wave energy is Sunday, July 19th, with a moderate combined energy reading of 148. Before that, the swell is tiny, the period is short, and the wind is all over the place – mostly cross-onshore, choppy, and messy. Not a single standout session in that first week and a half. The water temp is a staggering 68°F, which is 7°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s extremely unusual, so you’ll be in for a very warm dip if you go in.
The real story begins on Sunday, July 19th. The swell starts to pick up from the NNW, hitting 4ft in the morning with a moderate energy of 148. The wind is onshore, though, so it’s a bit of a struggle. The afternoon sees the swell bump to 5ft, but the wind goes cross-on, making it choppy. This is still not a recommendable session, but it’s the first sign of life.
The standout window is Monday, July 20th. The morning brings a solid 6ft swell from the NNW with a period of 7 seconds, and the combined energy jumps to a strong 334. The wind is still cross-on, so it won’t be glassy, but the size is there. The afternoon is the best on offer: 6ft from the NNW, energy of 390, and the same cross-on wind. For a spot like this, that’s the biggest push of the whole forecast. Keep in mind, with swell over 5ft, it’s getting too big for beginners, and the cross-on wind will make it a bit lumpy. The period is 7 seconds, so it’s a windswell, not a clean groundswell.
Tuesday, July 21st, holds some size – 5ft in the morning, dropping to 5ft in the afternoon – but the energy is still strong at 273. The wind stays cross-on, and the period ticks up to 8 seconds, which is a little better. By Wednesday, July 22nd, the swell fades fast to 3ft, and the energy drops to 107. After that, it’s back to tiny, weak surf through the end of the month.
If you’re an intermediate to expert surfer, the best bet is Monday, July 20th, afternoon. It’s not perfect, but it’s the only time the size and energy are truly pumping. For everyone else, honestly, this is a long blank run. Blokken is inconsistent, so this kind of stretch is normal for the area. The forecasts can change, but right now, don’t hold your breath until that July 20th window.
Rusty.
