Alright, grab a coffee, let's have a look at what's on offer for Blokken over the next couple of weeks. I've gotta be straight with you, mate – it's a bit of a tough stretch. This spot is pretty exposed but inconsistent, and looking at the whole 16-day window, there’s really nothing that hits the mark for a good surf. The first recommendation doesn't even pop up until July 6th, and even then, it’s all a bit grim.
The water temperature is sitting at 68°F, which is a massive 8°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s very unusual, you'd almost think you were in the tropics.
We kick off on Monday, July 6th with a weak, short-period 2ft swell from the WSW, but it's getting hammered by a 12 mph cross-shore wind. The combined energy is weak at 34, and the surf is just poor. That sets the tone for the whole first week. Tuesday, July 7th sees a bit of a bump from the WNW at 3ft, but it's blown out by a fresh 19 mph cross-onshore. Wednesday and Thursday are tiny, with waves below 2ft and messy winds. Friday, July 10th offers a brief moment of clean conditions with a light cross-offshore breeze, but the swell is a pathetic 1.0ft – not worth paddling out for.
The weekend of July 11th and 12th gets a little wild. Saturday afternoon sees a 3ft swell from the north, but it's being shredded by 25 mph cross-onshore winds – that's more of a kite-surfing setup than a surfing one. Sunday afternoon on July 12th sees the swell nudge up to 5ft from the north, with moderate wave energy of 121, but again, the wind is a strong cross-onshore at 25 mph, making it messy.
The second week is more of the same. We get a period around July 19th and 20th where the swell lifts. On Sunday the 19th, we have a 5ft swell from the WSW with energy of 135, but it's blown onshore by a 12 mph NNW breeze. Monday, July 20th sees the biggest swell of the period at 6ft from the W, with strong energy of 232, but again it's onshore at 19 mph. This is solid enough for an experienced surfer, but the onshore wind is going to mess it up. The 5ft swell plus onshore wind on July 21st is also a write-off.
Honestly, for the entire outlook, the winds are just relentless – nearly every session is cross-onshore, onshore, or too strong. There's no standout session here. Keep the board in the car and maybe go for a swim instead.
Rusty.
