Table - best surf conditions forecast for Blokken over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the prospects for Blokken over the next couple of weeks. I gotta be straight with you – it’s a grim picture for a while. We’ve got a long, flat run of nothingness to sit through before there’s even a whisper of a wave.
Looking at the first week, from Wednesday the 8th of July right through to Sunday the 19th of July, it’s basically all “poor surf conditions.” We’re talking tiny, weak swells with combined energy barely scraping into double digits (33), and a lot of cross-onshore or onshore wind messing things up. The swell height never gets above 4 ft, and when it does, it’s short-period windswell of 4-5 seconds, so just bumpy, unshapely junk. You’d be fighting the chop more than riding a wave. There is a brief clean window on the morning of Wednesday the 15th of July with a light cross-off breeze, but the swell is only 2 ft and the energy is a measly 13 – not worth paddling out for.
Even when we get a bit more size on the weekend of the 18th-19th, the wind is all wrong and the combined energy jumps up to a solid 331 by the morning of Sunday the 19th, but the wave comment still says “poor surf conditions.” For a beach setup like Blokken, with that much wind and a 5 ft short-period swell, this honestly looks more like a session for the kite-surfers than anyone with a paddle.
Finally, there’s a tiny glimmer of hope. On Monday the 20th of July, during the morning, we get conditions described as “surfable but very ordinary conditions.” The wind finally turns clean and cross-offshore from the ENE, and the swell, though small at 2 ft, is from the NNW with a period of 8 seconds and an energy of 57. It’s not going to be a classic day, but after two weeks of nothing, it might just be the only chance to get wet without it being a complete chore. The crowds are “sometimes” here, so you might have company, but for the first time in the whole outlook, the waves are actually surfable.
So, the bottom line: save your energy for Monday the 20th of July morning. It’s the one and only standout, but it’s a low bar. The rest of the month looks pretty bleak for a proper paddle session.
Rusty.
