The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you about Arashi Beach. Looking at the whole 16-day window, this is a tough one. There’s no real swell to speak of for the vast majority of the forecast. We’re looking at a long, dry spell with nothing to ride.
The first spot of any surf – and I mean *any* – doesn’t show up until the morning of Thursday, August 14th. Up until then, it’s a complete blank. From now until that Thursday morning, you’re looking at a solid week-plus with zero waves. That’s a long stretch of flat water. The water temp is sitting at 82°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so at least a swim is comfortable.
When that tiny bit of swell does finally arrive on the 14th, it’s a sniff of a 0.3ft wave from the north, with a 14-second period. That long period means it’s got some age on it, but the energy is pathetic – just 4 (combined energy of all swells directed here). The problem is, even with that tiny bump, the wind is blowing a solid 28 mph from the east. That’s a strong offshore wind, which will clean the surface up, but it’s so strong it’ll be nearly impossible to paddle into the few little bumps that show. The afternoon of the 14th is the same story – a 0.3ft north swell, 13-second period, energy of 3, and a 28 mph offshore wind. It’s clean, but it’s a battle to even get in.
The truth is, Arashi Beach rarely breaks, and this forecast proves it. There’s no standout day here, not even close. The entire period is a bust for paddle surfing. The combination of no swell and relentless, strong wind – even if it’s offshore – makes this look way more interesting for the kite surfers than for anyone with a paddle. The best advice I can give is to leave the boards at home and check back in a few days. Forecasts can change, but right now, this is a blank run.
Rusty.
