Alright folks, Rusty here. Let me level with you straight up. I’ve looked over everything we’ve got coming in for Andicuri, and to be honest, it’s a tough run. The wind is going to be an absolute menace for a solid stretch, and the wave quality just isn’t there. We’re looking at a long, frustrating period before anything changes, so let’s get into the details.
The whole 16-day outlook is dominated by that persistent cross-shore and cross-onshore wind, mostly from the east, whipping up messy, lumpy conditions. The swell is coming from the east with short period around 7 to 8 seconds, which means weak, wind-driven chop, not real groundswell. For the first week, it’s all poor surf. The water temperature feels pretty average for the season, so no weirdness there. The combined swell energy kicks off at 345 (weak to moderate) and builds into the 3-digit figures, hitting 1349 by Friday the 10th of July, but with that strong breeze of 28 mph, it’s pure chaos with cross-chop. That’s your cue: the first standouts are a bust. This is not for the paddle surfer.
Come Saturday the 4th of July through to Tuesday the 7th of July, we have 6 ft to 8 ft of east swell, but the onshore flow is relentless. The wind speeds are between 25 mph and 31 mph, so it’s blown out, cross-shore junk. The energy climbs to 731, but it’s all windswell and won’t hold a clean face.
Wednesday the 8th of July to Friday the 10th of July sees the energy spike into the four-digit range—finally strong energy (1349) by Friday morning—but that’s paired with a near-gale wind of 31 mph. With swell heights pushing 10 ft and a short 8-9 second period, this is big, raw, and ugly. Unless you’re into extreme conditions or maybe a bit of a kite session, this is no good for a standard surf.
The second week, from around Sunday the 12th of July onward, the pattern doesn’t let up. The swell stays in the 7 ft to 8 ft range, period stays short (7-8 seconds), and the wind remains a factor, 25 to 28 mph, cross and cross-on. The energy levels drop a bit to the 400-700 range, but it’s still unrideable for a decent wave. By Friday the 17th of July, we’ve got near-gale winds again.
Let’s be real: there’s not a single standout session here for the whole window. The setup looks way more interesting for the kiteboarders than anyone on a paddleboard. The east swell at Andicuri is exposed to it, but the wind is just terrible. If you’re desperate, maybe you catch a lull on a morning when the wind is just cross instead of cross-on, but even then, it’s lumpy. This is a rough patch. Don’t force it.
Rusty, signing off.
