The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you right off the bat: this outlook is a tough one. We’re looking at a stretch that’s pretty much flat and disappointing for the entire 16-day window. The swell is weak, the wind is mostly wrong, and there’s just nothing to get excited about for a proper paddle session.
The forecast starts off with a bit of background energy on Friday, 24 July, but it’s all messy. Tel Baruch South Beach is seeing a weak, short-period swell from the WNW at only 3ft to 3ft, with a period of just 6 seconds. The combined energy is a feeble 59 to 82, and with a cross-onshore breeze from the SW and WSW, it’s choppy and poor. The water is a warm 84°, feeling a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s no comfort when the waves are bad.
Saturday, 25 July, brings a bit more height, with the swell pushing 5ft in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon, and the period bumps up to 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 298 and 243, which is moderate, but the wind is still cross-onshore from the SW and W. The surf quality is still poor, and it’s not going to clean up.
Sunday, 26 July, the swell drops back to 4ft in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon, with a period of 7 to 9 seconds. The energy is 127 and 333, but the wind is a mess – cross-onshore from the W and then onshore from the NW. Still poor.
From Monday, 27 July, right through to the end of the period on Saturday, 8 August, the trend is downhill. The swell height teeters between 1ft and 4ft, with the combined energy rarely getting above 100, and most days it’s well under that. The wind is a constant problem, switching between cross-onshore and onshore, with only a few brief moments of glassy conditions on Tuesday, 28 July morning and Saturday, 8 August morning. But even those glassy windows are on tiny, weak swell of 1ft to 2ft, with a period of just 6 to 7 seconds. The energy is a measly 9 to 43. The waves just aren’t there.
With such weak, short-period swell and persistent cross-to-onshore winds, the setup at this beach is really more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. There are no standouts here. It’s a long, dry spell. Sometimes the forecast can change, but for now, save your energy and leave the boards in the garage.
Rusty.
