The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for Tel Baruch South Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I've got to be straight with you – this stretch of coast is looking pretty flat and uninspiring for the entire 16-day window. The water's sitting at a warm 85°F which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you'll be in boardies, but that's about the only upside.
We kick off Thursday the 27th of August with tiny 2ft swell from the WNW, a weak 6-second period, and a cross-on breeze. The energy's basically non-existent, and it's labelled as poor surf conditions. That sets the tone. Friday the 28th is even smaller – 1.0ft to 1ft, and the wind swings onshore in the afternoons. Saturday the 29th of August shows a little pulse to 3ft, but with a cross-shore breeze and a choppy sea state, it's still not worth paddling out.
Sunday the 30th sees the biggest bump of the whole period – 5ft from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds and a moderate energy reading. That's our biggest swell, but the wind is onshore and it's still rated poor. Monday the 31st drops back to 3ft, and the pattern continues: tiny swell, weak periods between 5 and 8 seconds, and mostly cross-on or onshore winds.
There are a few brief moments of glassy conditions – Tuesday the 1st of September morning, Thursday the 3rd of September morning, Sunday the 6th of September morning, and Tuesday the 8th of September morning – but the swell is so small (2ft to 3ft) that it's not going to produce anything rideable. The combined energy during these glassy windows is weak.
The whole period is a write-off. No standout days, no decent swell, and the wind is mostly a problem. The short period swells (5-8 seconds) mean weak, crumbly waves that won't hold shape. For a beach break like this, you need a clean swell and offshore wind, and we're not getting either. Honestly, this looks more like a kiteboarding window than a surfing one if the wind cooperates, but for paddle surfing, it's a big miss.
Stay patient – the forecasts can always change, but for now, leave the boards in the shed.
Rusty.
