The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for this stretch. We’ve got a long window ahead, but I’m not gonna lie to you, it’s a quiet one. The swell is tiny and the conditions are ordinary for most of it.

The only real mention for the whole 16-day run is Tel Baruk South Beach. It’s a beginner-friendly spot, fairly exposed to the swell, but the energy is weak. The water is sitting at 84° and running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a nice bonus.

The first sniff of something is on Thursday morning, 30 July. Tiny 3 ft swell from the WNW with a period of 7 seconds, so not much push. The combined energy is only 62 (weak), and a light cross-on wind from the SW at 3 mph will mess up the surface. Not one to get excited about. Friday morning, 31 July, looks a bit better—still small at 3 ft from the WNW, period stretching to 8 seconds and the combined energy creeping up to 78 (still weak). The magic is the wind: glassy from the WSW at 3 mph. That’s clean. This is the standout moment. It’s still very small, but it’s the best on offer.

After that, it’s a long, long gap. From Friday afternoon, 31 July, all the way through to Monday morning, 10 August, it’s just poor surf with tiny, weak swell and bumpy winds. The energy values drop into the teens and twenties. There’s a couple of glassy mornings in there—like Tuesday morning, 4 August, and Friday morning, 7 August, and Saturday morning, 8 August—but the swell is only 2 ft to 1.0 ft, and the combined energy sits at 22 and 32, so you’re looking at a flat, glassy pond. Not surfable.

The next possible window is Monday morning, 10 August. A 2 ft swell from the WNW with a period of 8 seconds and combined energy of 54 (still weak). The wind is glassy from the SW at 3 mph. That’s clean again, but again, it’s tiny. After that, from Monday afternoon, 10 August, through to the end of the forecast on Friday, 14 August, the swell drips down to 1 ft and 1.0 ft with combined energy down to 10 (basically flat). Wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, so it’s not worth paddling for.

So, bottom line: the best surf is the glassy, tiny 3 ft knee-high stuff on the morning of Friday, 31 July, and again on Monday morning, 10 August. It’s beginner-friendly, clean, but expect weak, short-period waves. A long stretch of flatness in between, and nothing real to get hyped about. Stay patient, and keep an eye on the next forecast update.

Rusty.
