Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s happening at Tel Baruch South Beach for the next couple of weeks. I’m not going to sugarcoat it—there’s almost nothing to get excited about. The swell is tiny, the wind is messy, and the energy in the water is weak for most of the period. You’ll want to wait this one out.
Starting Saturday 4 July through the middle of the month, it’s a flat stretch. The swell is small—mostly around 3ft to 4ft but it’s short-period stuff, around 6 to 8 seconds, so the waves don’t have any punch. The wind is coming from the WSW, W, or SW at 9 to 12 mph, mostly cross-on or onshore, which keeps the water choppy and the ride unpleasant. The combined swell energy is low, from about 60 up to 144 (weak to moderate energy). The water temperature is 82°, about 3° warmer than usual, so it’s a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
The best part of the forecast? Honestly, there isn’t a standout. On Saturday 11 July and Sunday 12 July there are a few glassy mornings with 1ft to 2ft of swell, period short at 6 seconds, and energy tiny at 12 to 22. That’s about as good as it gets—clean but barely there. Later in the day the wind flips to NW cross-on and the surface goes to junk. For the rest of the two weeks, it’s all undersized and messy.
For beginners, the tiny size might look okay, but the conditions are so weak and sloppy it’s not worth going in. The swell never reaches 5ft, so size isn’t the problem—it’s just no real swell and bad wind. The wave comment throughout is “poor surf conditions” and the score is a flat 0 out of 10 every single day. The bottom line: nothing worth marking.
Given the poor quality and the persistent onshore or cross-onshore winds, and it being a beach setup, this stretch looks way more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. For a surfer? This run is dead. There are no good options in the whole 16-day window. A blank run like this does happen here from time to time.
Stay patient, and keep checking—forecasts can change.
Rusty.
