The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what we’ve got coming up. Gotta be straight with you – it’s a pretty grim stretch. Looking at the whole 16-day window, there isn’t a single session that earns a green light. Every single report comes back as poor surf conditions, so we’re looking at a total blank run from now through to Monday, August 10th. A dry spell like this is more normal for the area when the conditions just don’t line up.
Let’s break down why. The only break on the cards is Tel Baruch South Beach. The water is sitting at a warm 84°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you won’t need a thick suit if you’re just floating, but there’s no real surf to ride.
Across the next couple of weeks, we are stuck with weak, short-period windswell. The swell height barely scrapes past 3ft a couple of times, and most of the time it’s down around 1ft to 3ft. The period almost never gets above 8 seconds – you’re looking at bumpy, weak waves with no grunt. Even the best combined swell energy numbers, like the 126 (weak energy) we see around Monday, July 27th morning, or the 121 (weak energy) on Thursday, August 6th morning, are still very low and paired with the wrong wind.
A few mornings do look glassy, like Tuesday, July 28th and Thursday, July 30th, with light southwesterly breezes, but with the swell barely reaching 2ft, there’s just nothing to surf. The rest of the period is dominated by onshore or cross-onshore winds from the NW and W, hitting 12 to 16 mph, which just chop up the already tiny surf.
This pattern stays locked in until August 10th. There is a cheeky moment on Wednesday, August 5th morning, where the swell touches 3ft from the WNW, but the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the SW at 12 mph, creating a messy cross-chop. Not worth the paddle.
With the small, weak swell and frequent onshore wind at a beach setup, this honestly looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing for the entire period. Hold tight, forecasts can change, but right now there’s nothing to get excited about.
Rusty.
