The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – I’ve scanned the charts for this stretch, and it’s a tough one. We’re looking at a full sixteen-day window with nothing that qualifies as good surf. That’s a long, quiet run, and for Tel Baruch South Beach it’s not unheard of for things to go flat and stay that way for a while.
Right from the get-go, Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st, we’ve got tiny WNW swell pushing in at 1 ft to 2 ft with short, punchless periods around 3–5 seconds. Winds are all over the place – cross, cross-on, onshore – and the water is a warm 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. But the energy is weak, with combined energy values sitting between 7 and 11, so there’s just no grunt. It’s poor conditions across the board.
Saturday the 22nd through to Monday the 24th? Still poor. That swell stays small, 1 ft to 2 ft, period limping along at 5–6 seconds. Winds go onshore in the afternoons, and the energy barely cracks 22. It’s frustrating.
Tuesday the 25th morning gives us a moment of calm – glassy conditions with no wind – but the swell is only 1 ft at 6 seconds. It’s pretty but unsurfable. The rest of that week stays poor, with energy values never breaking above 13.
As we push into the last week of August, things do nudge up a little. Saturday the 29th morning shows 3 ft swell from the WNW at 7 seconds, with a light cross breeze and combined energy of 78. That’s the most energy we see in the whole run, but it’s still weak overall and the wind shifts onshore in the afternoon. Monday the 31st and Tuesday September 1st – poor again. Small swell, moderate breezes, choppy conditions.
Wednesday September 2nd morning goes glassy again, but with only 2 ft of west swell at 6 seconds and energy at 20, there’s nothing to ride. Thursday September 3rd morning offers another glassy moment, 2 ft at 6 seconds and energy up to 25 – still just not enough size or period to get excited about.
We end the outlook on Friday September 4th with 2 ft west swell, 6-second period, and a light cross-onshore breeze. Energy hits 30, but it’s still poor.
I hate to say it, but there’s no standout session in this whole 16-day run. No break to highlight, no window where it all comes together. The consistent theme is small, weak, poorly directed swell and winds that rarely cooperate. For a beginner-friendly, fairly exposed beach break like this, we need a lot more to line up. If you’re desperate for a paddle, keep an eye on those glassy mornings, but don’t expect waves. This is a real dry spell. Forecasts can change, though, and it tends not to stay this poor forever.
Rusty.
