The Lowdown
Alright, let's get down to it. Looking at the charts for the Tel Baruch South Beach area, I've got to be honest with you – it's a lean stretch. The whole 16-day window is looking pretty flat and uninviting, with barely a ripple worth getting excited about. There's a long gap with nothing doing, and I mean a proper drought.
The first real chance of anything, and I'm using that word loosely, comes on the morning of Friday, September 11th. We've got a touch more energy in the water, with a combined swell energy of 131. The swell is coming from the WNW at about 4ft, with a period of 8 seconds. The wind is light and cross-shore from the SSW, so the conditions will be clean enough, but these are still poor surf conditions. It's the best of a bad bunch, but it's not great.
Before that, from Tuesday, September 1st, right through to the morning of Thursday, September 10th, the surf is virtually non-existent. We're talking tiny dribbles of swell, mostly under 3ft, with weak energy readings well under 100. The wind is often onshore or cross-onshore from the NW, making a mess of what little wave there is. There are a few glassy mornings, like the 1st, 7th, and 8th, but with swells of 1ft to 3ft and periods of just 6 to 7 seconds, there's just no power. It's a paddling workout, not a surf.
After that Friday the 11th, it drops back into the doldrums. The weekend of the 12th and 13th sees the energy dip back below 100, with cross-shore and onshore winds ruining any chance of a clean wave. The following week, from the 14th to the 16th, it's the same story: tiny, weak swells onshore and cross-shore winds. It's a quiet period.
The water temperature is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Honestly, for a beach break like Tel Baruch South Beach, you need a bit more size and a better window of clean wind. With the swell so small and the predominant NW winds being onshore, this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. There's just not enough for a decent wave. Keep your hopes up, though – it can't stay this quiet forever.
