The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s on offer for your local stretch.
Well, I’ve gotta be straight with you – this 16-day window looks like a real struggle. We’re looking at a long gap of nothing but poor surf conditions right from the start. From Tuesday, July 14th, right through until the end of the month, every single morning and afternoon session is flagged as poor. There’s no real surf to get excited about.
The waves are small, mostly hanging around 1 ft to 3 ft, and the swell period is short, between 5 and 8 seconds. That means weak, crumbly energy with no real push. The combined energy is weak too, mostly in the double digits (16 to 125). The wind is messy for most of the period, with onshore and cross-onshore breezes making it choppy and bumpy.
There’s no standout day here. The closest thing to a decent window might be Saturday morning, July 18th, and Sunday morning, July 19th, when we get a glassy, clean surface with a light WSW wind at 3 mph. But the swell is only 2 ft from the WNW, with a period of 7 seconds. The energy is weak (27 and 29). It’s not going to be a proper ride, but it’ll be the best chance for a beginner to get a clean little pop on a foamie.
The rest of the time, it’s either onshore junk or just too small to bother. After the 24th of July, the swell does tick up a fraction to 3 ft and 3 ft, but the wind is always onshore or cross-on, making it a choppy mess. The combined energy gets up to 125 on the 25th of July morning, but it’s still coming from the WNW with a short period, so it’s not going to shape up well.
For a spot like Tel Baruch South Beach, which is a beginner zone that’s fairly exposed, you need a decent swell and clean wind. We’re just not getting it here. This is a flat spell, plain and simple. Keep the board in the car and wait for a better forecast.
Rusty.
