The Lowdown
Righto, let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Tel Baruch South Beach.
Honestly, mate, it’s a bit of a rough stretch coming up. We’ve got a 16-day window here but it’s looking like a long, flat spell with nothing worth paddling out for. The whole run is marked as poor surf conditions, so there’s not a single standout session. The swell’s tiny right through – we’re talking 1ft to 2ft junk, mostly short-period windswell around 5 to 6 seconds, and the wave energy is weak, barely hitting double digits for most of it. It’s only towards the second week that we see a slight bump, but even then it’s still poor.
The water temperature at the start is 86°F – a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so if you’re just floating around, it’s nice, but for surfing it’s a no-go.
The first few days – Thursday 3rd through to the weekend – are small and messy, with cross or onshore winds. A bit of glassy calm pops up on Monday 7th morning and Tuesday 8th morning, but with only 1ft to 2ft of 6-second swell, it’s just ankle-biters. That pattern holds right through the first week.
Around Thursday 10th and Friday 11th, the swell nudges up to 3ft–3ft with 7-second periods and energy in the 50–90 range, but the wind’s either cross or onshore, so it’s choppy and poor.
The second week brings a little more size. By Sunday 13th morning we get a glassy 2ft surf with no wind at all, but it’s still weak. Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th see the biggest swell of the period – 4ft from the WNW with 8-second periods and energy hitting 157 in the morning. But the wind is cross-onshore and gusty up to 16 mph, so it’s a bumpy, blown-out mess. That’s about as big as it gets, and at that size it’s borderline for beginners, but the quality is just not there.
After that, it fades again back to tiny stuff. There’s a glimmer on Wednesday 16th morning with a glassy 3ft, but again, poor conditions.
So, bottom line: for a beginner-friendly beach break that’s fairly consistent, this is a blank run. It’s not abnormal for the area – sometimes the forecasts just don’t line up. Could change, but right now, I’d leave the board at home. If the wind picks up strong, it’d be more interesting for the kite crew than us paddle surfers.
Rusty.
