The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you. Right now, and for the next couple of weeks, it’s looking pretty grim. There’s really no good surf to speak of in the 16-day window. The models are showing a whole lot of flatness and messy, weak waves, so don’t be in a rush to wax up.
The only spot on the cards is Tel Baruch South Beach. The water is sitting at 85° – a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is nice, but it’s not going to make up for the lack of push.
The first real chance of anything even worth mentioning is on Thursday, September 10th. The morning sees a bit of a pulse coming through – a 3ft swell from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy hits 158 (moderate), so there’s a little bit of life. The wind is light and cross-shore from the SW, so conditions should be clean. Afternoon gets a bit bigger at 4ft but the wind swings onshore from the W, making it choppy and messy. It’s a beginner wave, but it’s still not great.
Friday, September 11th is similar. Morning has 3ft from the WNW, period 8 seconds, energy 119 (moderate), and light cross-shore wind from the SSW. It’s the most promising of the bunch, but that’s not saying much. The swell is short period, and the wave quality is still being called poor. The afternoon goes onshore and drops off.
After that, it’s back to tiny, weak waves for the rest of the run. We’re looking at a big gap from the 12th right through to the 16th, with nothing but 1ft to 2ft of weak, inconsistent slop, mostly ruined by onshore winds. The only real bright spot is a few glassy mornings, but with no swell to work with, it’s just a flat pond.
The best on offer? If you’re desperate, Thursday, September 10th morning is the standout. It’s not good, but it’s the least bad. Clean conditions, a bit of waist-high swell, and you might get a few grovelly ones. After that, you’re waiting for a miracle.
Keep your eyes on the charts, but don’t hold your breath. Rusty.
