The Lowdown
Hey, it’s Rusty. I’ve had a good look at the charts for the Tel Baruch stretch, and I’m not going to sugarcoat it: it’s flat. Completely flat. We’ve got a 16-day run with zero decent waves on the cards. There’s nothing to get excited about, no hidden gems, just a whole lot of nothing.
The water is a warm 85° right now, which feels a bit toastier than normal for the season, but that’s the only highlight. The swell is coming from the WNW when we really want it from the west, and the energy in the water is pathetic. It starts at a weak 8 and never gets beyond a mediocre 105. It’s just not going to happen.
The whole first week is a washout. The 13th kicks off with a tiny 1ft swell at 6 seconds, and it's all downhill from there. The wind is coming from the wrong direction, blowing cross-shore or onshore, and making anything that might break look like a washing machine. The afternoons are especially bad when the westerly wind decides to really blow.
Even when the swell energy bumps up to 105 on the morning of the 16th, we’re still only talking about a 3ft wave with a short period. But with the wind messing it up, it’s not going to be rideable.
The second week is more of the same. We’re stuck with small, weak swell, and the wind is always a problem. There are a couple of mornings that look calmer, like the 19th with a light north-northwest breeze, and the 26th is completely glassy, but the surf is just too Tiny. You’d be out there on a foamie hoping for a crumb, but there’s just no push.
Honestly, with this long stretch of weak, onshore junk, I’d say this setup is far more interesting for the kiteboarders than for us. Leave the boards at home, save yourself the frustration. This is one of those blank runs that just happens sometimes.
Rusty.
