The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get into it. I’m Rusty, and I’ve been staring at charts for this stretch of coast, and I gotta be straight with you – it’s a tough run. We’re looking at Tel Baruch South Beach, and the whole 16-day window is a struggle. There’s a long gap of nothing surfable from now until late in the month.
The first day we even see a pulse of energy is on the 25th of July. A new swell from the WNW pushes in around 4 ft, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 128 (moderate). The water is sitting at 82° so it’s a nice warm bath, and for this time of year, that’s about 2° above normal, so it’s a little warmer than average. The trouble is, the wind is stubbornly cross-onshore from the NW which ruins the surface. It’s not going to be a day for a clean session.
The 27th of July Monday morning shows a bit more hope with a 3 ft WNW swell, a period of 8 seconds, and the energy climbing to 142 (moderate). The wind is lighter from the N, but it’s still cross-onshore and the forecast says “gentle cross-onshore and fairly choppy.” It’s better than the afternoon, but it’s not the kind of glassy perfection we’re looking for.
The absolute standout of the whole period, if you can call it that, is the morning of the 30th of July. On Thursday the 30th, we’ve got a clean 2 ft swell from the WNW, period of 6 seconds, and the energy is a weak 26. But the wind is glassy – a light WNW breeze at 3 mph. That’s the only time we see a “glassy” condition in the whole forecast. It’s tiny, it’s for beginners, and it’s weak, but it’s the only clean opportunity. The 31st of July Friday morning also has glassy conditions for a 2 ft swell, same story.
Bottom line: for the next two weeks, there’s nothing pumping. The swell is too small, the wind is mostly wrong, and the one clean window is a tiny wave. It’s a quiet period for Tel Baruch. Forecasts can change though, so don’t write it off completely, but right now, it’s a flat spell.
Rusty.
