The Lowdown
Right then, let’s talk about what’s happening here. Tel Baruch South Beach is the only spot on the radar for the next 16 days, and I’ve got to be straight with you—it’s looking pretty sad. The water is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at 30°, but that’s about the only highlight.
The whole 16-day stretch is a long, quiet run with no real surf to get excited about. The combined swell energy barely gets out of the teens for most of it, peaking at a measly 78 (moderate energy) on the 7th of September afternoon, but that’s still with poor surf conditions. The swell is tiny, mostly around 2 ft to 3 ft, coming from the WNW with short periods—6 to 8 seconds—so it’s weak, choppy, and messy. The wind is a problem too; it’s mostly onshore or cross-onshore, which kills any chance of a clean wave.
There are a few fleeting moments of glassy conditions, like the morning of the 8th of September, the 12th of September, the 13th, and the 14th, but even then the swell is just too small—1 ft to 2 ft—and the energy is pitiful. The best of a bad bunch might be the morning of the 12th of September, with glassy wind and a 2 ft WNW swell, or the 18th of September morning with a clean, glassy 2 ft WNW swell. But let’s be real, these are barely ankle-biters.
For a beginner spot, the size is fine, but the quality just isn’t there. The wind is mostly ruining it, and the swell is too weak to hold any shape. If you’re a kite surfer, the afternoons with a moderate onshore breeze and some chop might offer a bit of fun, but for a paddle surfer, it’s a tough call. Don’t get your hopes up—this is a flat spell for the area, and it might take a change in the forecast to bring anything worthwhile.
