The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, and I’m not gonna sugarcoat it — the next 16 days at Tel Baruch South Beach are looking like a desert. This is the only spot in the data, so we’re stuck with it.
The whole run starts flat and stays that way. On Wednesday morning, the 2nd, we’ve got a tiny 1 ft swell from the west-northwest, with a period of just 6 seconds. The combined energy is weak (16). It’s glassy, which is a beautiful sight, but the waves are so small and weak, you’d be lucky to get a ride. That afternoon, the wind cranks up to 12 mph from the northwest, cross-on, and it turns choppy.
The first week is a real struggle. Swell heights barely top 2 ft, and the period hangs around 5-7 seconds, so it’s all weak, short-period windswell. The combined energy numbers are all in the low double digits, peaking at 48 on Monday the 7th afternoon. Even then, the wind is onshore from the northwest, so it’s blown out. It’s just not happening.
The water temperature is 86°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so at least a swim is nice.
The only real chance comes on Thursday the 10th in the morning. We’ve got a 2 ft swell from the west-northwest, with a period of 8 seconds, and the combined energy hits 50. The big win is the wind: it’s glassy. That’s the cleanest we’ll see. The swell direction is close to the optimum west swell for this spot, so even though it’s small, those glassy conditions could make for a few fun, clean little waves. It’s the standout of the whole forecast, but it’s still only a small wave.
After that, it fades back to nothing. The second week is a total snoozer. Swell drops to 1 ft or 2 ft, and the period stays short. There’s a glassy morning on the 12th and the 13th, but the swell is tiny and the combined energy is in the teens. The 17th morning has a glassy start, but again, only 1 ft of swell.
This is a pretty blank run for Tel Baruch South Beach. It’s a fairly exposed spot, but the swells just aren’t lining up. The wind is often onshore or cross-on from the north or northwest, which doesn’t help. For a beginner spot, the small size is safe, but there’s just not enough power or shape to make it worth the paddle.
If you’re really jonesing, the Thursday 10th morning glass-off is your best bet, but don’t expect much. Otherwise, it’s a waiting game.
Rusty.
