The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one for the 16-day window. We’ve got a long stretch of quiet, messy conditions, and only a couple of slim windows of hope.
The pattern is flat and uninspiring. We’ve got very small swell coming from the west-northwest, but it’s fighting a constant cross-onshore or onshore wind for most of the period. The wave energy is low, with combined energy readings mostly in the double digits (18 to 116), meaning the ocean is just lacking push. The only real note of interest is a tiny spike in energy on the morning of Thursday the 30th of July, but even that is weak.
Let’s get into it. For the first week and a half, it’s a grim run. From Monday the 27th of July all the way through to the morning of Thursday the 30th, every session is listed as “poor surf conditions.” The water is a touch warmer than normal at 84°, but that won’t matter when you’re bobbing around on 2 ft to 3 ft crumbly stuff.
The standout moment, and it’s a relative one, happens on Thursday morning, the 30th of July at Tel Baruk South Beach. The wind goes glassy. For a few hours, the ocean will be clean. The swell is still tiny at 3 ft from the WNW, with a period of 7 seconds, so it’s weak, short-period windswell. The combined energy is only 68. But with glassy conditions, this is your best shot at a little longboard slide or a fun wave for a beginner. This is the only session in the whole 16 days that gets a “surfable” rating, so if you’re desperate, that’s your window.
After that, we’re back into the wilderness. From Thursday afternoon, the 30th, through to the end of the forecast on the 11th of August, it’s a solid block of “poor surf conditions.” The winds pick up again, the swell drops further, and the energy reading stays in the low double digits. The morning of the 7th of August sees another glassy moment, but the swell is only 2 ft with a combined energy of 22 – that’s basically a lake. It’s not worth the wet suit.
For the whole 16 days, there is no swell above 3 ft, the period never gets above 8 seconds, and the wind is almost always wrong. This is a genuine blank run for the area. It’s a good time to wax the board, rest the body, and check back in a few days. Forecasts can change, but right now, the ocean is not playing ball.
Rusty.
