The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – it’s a tough stretch coming up for Tel Baruch South Beach. The next 16 days are looking pretty flat and uninspiring, with no real standouts to get excited about.
The water is sitting at 85°F right now, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. That’s about the only thing worth noting, because the surf is a no-go for the foreseeable future.
We’ve got a long gap here. From Wednesday the 26th of August all the way through to Thursday the 10th of September, the forecast is consistently poor. Swell heights barely crack 4ft on the 30th of August, and even then, the period is a short 8 seconds with moderate cross-shore winds. The combined energy is only moderate at best (159), and the wave comment says it all: “poor surf conditions.” It’s not worth paddling out.
The winds are mostly cross-shore or onshore, with a few glassy mornings on the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th of September, but those are accompanied by tiny 2ft to 2ft swell from the WNW. That’s just not enough to push a wave face. The best you’ll get is a knee-high ripple, and even then, it’s inconsistent. The break is fairly consistent normally, but this stretch is a real blank run.
There’s a faint glimmer on the 10th of September Thursday morning with glassy conditions and a 2ft NW swell, but the period is still only 6 seconds and the energy is weak (37). Honestly, it’s more of a hope than a plan.
If you’re looking for a silver lining, the beach setup with these small, weak swells and some cross-offshore winds might interest the kite crowd more than surfers. But for paddle surfing, this is a stay-at-home period. Forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing to get the heart pumping.
Rusty.
