The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this outlook is a tough one for Tel Baruch South Beach. We’re looking at a 16-day window starting from July 15th, and to be honest, the surf is pretty much non-existent for paddle surfing for nearly the entire run. The first real sign of anything that might be worth a second look doesn’t show up until the morning of Saturday, July 25th, and even that is just marginal.
For the first ten days, from Wednesday the 15th through to Friday the 24th, it’s all small, weak, and messy. Swell heights are mostly under 3 ft, with periods barely scraping 8 seconds – that’s just wind slop, not real waves. The combined energy is weak, often under 100, and the wind is mostly cross or onshore, putting a chop on the surface. The glassy mornings on the 18th and 19th are a tease – there’s simply no swell to ride. This stretch is a write-off for a surf.
The only glimmer in the whole period comes on the morning of Saturday, July 25th. The swell bumps up to 6 ft from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds, pushing the combined energy up to 528 – that’s a moderate, punchy energy. The wind is light and cross from the SW, which should keep the surface pretty clean. This is the only session that’s even close to rideable, but with the swell size over 5 ft, it’s going to be a bit much for beginners, and the quality is still described as marginal. It’s a long wait for a shot that’s only just okay.
After that, it drops right back down to tiny, poor conditions for the rest of the month. For kite surfing, with the consistent onshore winds, the setup might be more interesting than for a surfboard, but for a paddle surfer, this is a quiet period. The water temperature is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
Keep the hopes up, though – it doesn’t tend to stay this flat for long, and forecasts can change.
Rusty.
