The Lowdown
Alright, this is a tough one to write, mate. I’ve been staring at the charts for Tel Baruch South Beach, and honestly, it’s a pretty flat and frustrating stretch ahead. Let me walk you through it.
Right now and for the next couple of weeks, the ocean is just not cooperating. We’ve got tiny waves, mostly around 1 ft to 2 ft, coming in from the WNW. That’s the direction this beach likes, but the swell is just too weak to get anything going. The combined swell energy is very low, mostly hanging around the teens and twenties, with the odd spike into the 90s later on, but still way too small for a decent paddle. It’s almost all short-period windswell under 8 seconds, so the waves will be weak and crumbly.
For the first week, from Sunday the 23rd through to the end of August, it’s a real struggle. There are a few mornings with glassy conditions – like Monday the 24th, Tuesday the 25th, and Wednesday the 26th – but even with zero wind, the swell is so small (1 ft to 2 ft) that you’d be fighting for a knee-high dribble. The afternoons are pretty much all onshore wind from the NW, chopping up what little there is.
The water is sitting at 86°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. Nice for a swim, but not helping the surf.
Moving into the second week, from the 1st of September onward, it gets even smaller. We’re looking at 1 ft to 2 ft with combined energy dropping into single digits on some days. There’s a bit of a pulse showing up around the 5th and 6th of September, with the swell picking up to about 3 ft and the energy finally cracking the 100 mark (108 to 135). But the report still calls it "poor surf conditions," and with the onshore winds in the afternoons, it’ll be bumpy. The morning of Monday the 7th might offer a clean window with light cross-shore wind and that 3 ft swell, but it’s a long way off and nothing to get excited about.
There are no standouts here. Not a single morning or afternoon scores above a zero in the quality department. For a spot that’s fairly consistent, this is a really poor run. If you’re a beginner with a foamie and just want to sit in the whitewash, you might find something on a glassy morning, but for anyone wanting a proper wave, it’s a blank. This setup, with the small, weak swell and afternoon chop, honestly looks more interesting for a kite than a surfboard right now.
