The Lowdown
Alright, listen up, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you – the next couple of weeks aren't looking flash for a proper paddle. The whole window is a bit of a write-off, but I’ll walk you through it.
We’re looking at Tel Baruch South Beach, and straight off the bat, the water’s sitting at a warm 85° this afternoon, which feels a touch warmer than normal for this time of year.
For the rest of August and into the first week of September, it’s flat and messy. We’re talking tiny dribbles of swell, mostly under 2ft, with a short, weak period of 5 to 7 seconds from the WNW. The combined wave energy is pathetic, barely tickling 20 to 90 (25-92). The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, just ruining any chance of a clean wave. There’s a couple of glassy mornings – like Tuesday the 25th morning and Sunday the 30th morning – but the swell is so small and weak (2ft to 2ft) it’s barely worth getting wet for. It’s a long, dry spell of straight-up poor conditions.
We finally get a little pulse around the 6th of September. Sunday the 6th afternoon sees the swell bump up to 6ft from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 614 (strong). But here’s the kicker – the wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the NW at 12 mph, making it choppy. The setup is a beach, so with that wind and size, it’s looking more interesting for a kite surfer than a paddle surfer. Beginners should steer clear of that 6ft as it’s too big for them.
The best chance, and I mean the only real chance of a surf, comes on the 7th of September, Monday morning. The swell drops to a clean 4ft from the NW, with an 8-second period. The combined energy is moderate at 187. More importantly, the wind goes glassy – dead calm, offshore from the SW at 3 mph. The notes say "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions," which is the best we get. It’s a beginner-friendly break and fairly consistent, but expect crowds as it’s often busy. It’s not a standout, just the least bad option. The swell direction (NW) isn’t the optimum (W), so the waves won’t be world-class, but it’ll be the cleanest session of the whole stretch.
After that, Monday afternoon turns onshore again, and the rest of the forecast drops back into the flat and weak pattern. There’s a few more glassy mornings on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th of September, but the swell is 2ft or less, so it’s really just a paddle and a tan.
So, the honest truth? There’s no true standout. Monday the 7th of September morning is your only shot at a clean, surfable wave. Everything else is a miss. Rusty.
