The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – this is a tough one. The entire 16-day window is looking pretty grim. We’re staring at a long stretch of poor surf conditions with no real standouts. The first few days are a write-off, and honestly, the pattern doesn't change much. There’s a gap of about 12 days here where the surf is just not worth the paddle.

Let’s break it down. Starting Tuesday, July 28th, Tel Baruch South Beach is showing tiny, weak swell. We’re talking 2 ft to 2 ft from the WNW, with a short period around 6-7 seconds. The combined energy is a measly 29-34 (weak energy), and the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, making it choppy and messy. It’s about as unappealing as it gets.

We roll through the rest of the week and into the next. The swell stays small, mostly under 3 ft, with that same WNW direction and short, weak period. The wind is a constant problem – onshore from the WNW or cross-onshore from the NW. Every single day the surf report calls it “poor surf conditions.” The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing to write home about.

There’s a tiny glimmer on the morning of Saturday, August 8th. The wind goes glassy, which is a huge positive. The swell is tiny though – only 2 ft from the WNW, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy is just 23 (weak). It’s clean, but there’s barely any wave to ride. Then the wind shifts onshore by the afternoon.

The best of a bad bunch is probably the morning of Thursday, August 6th, with a light cross-onshore and 3 ft swell, but it’s still not good. Even the biggest swell we see, 3 ft on the afternoon of August 6th, comes with a strong onshore wind and a combined energy of 103 (moderate wave energy), but the quality is described as “poor surf conditions.” This is a beach break, and with the wind and small, weak swell, it’s more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle-surfing one.

Honestly, there’s nothing here to get excited about. The breaks are fairly consistent for the area, but the quality just isn’t there. Sometimes it’s like this – the ocean just doesn’t cooperate. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but for now, I’d be looking for other things to do.

Rusty.
