Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the table for Tel Baruch South Beach over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch. The forecast is calling for nothing but "poor surf conditions" right through the entire 16-day period. That's a long, dry spell, and it's pretty normal for this area when the conditions just don't line up.
The water is sitting at 82°F for the first few days, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, but you won't be caring much about the temp when the waves are this flat and messy.
The main issue is the swell direction. We need the waves from the West to really turn on, but what we're getting is a constant, weak pulse from the WNW. The swell heights are tiny, mostly hanging around 2ft to 3ft. The periods are short too – between 5 and 8 seconds – so there's no real push or shape to anything. The combined wave energy is weak, with the highest reading hitting a "moderate" 123 on Tuesday the 7th of July afternoon, but even that's blown out.
And the wind... that's the real killer. Most afternoons see a moderate onshore or cross-onshore breeze from the West or Northwest at 12 mph, just tearing up what little bump there is. There are a few glassy mornings – like Saturday the 11th, Sunday the 12th, and Monday the 20th of July – where the wind drops right off, but the swell is so tiny (1ft to 3ft) that it's barely worth the paddle. The WNW swell direction isn't the preferred offshore for this spot, which needs a W wind to be clean.
Truth is, there is no standout session here. Nothing to get excited about. If you're desperate for a splash, the glassy morning on Saturday the 11th of July might give you a knee-high, clean little wave, but don't expect to catch much. For the rest of the time, the combo of weak, short-period swell and choppy onshore wind means it's going to be a frustrating wait. This stretch is better for a beach day or a kite session than a proper surf.
Keep the faith, the forecasts can always change.
Rusty.
