The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – this is a pretty quiet stretch for the Tel Baruch South Beach area. The finder is telling me there’s not a single session that scores well enough to get you out of bed with a grin. The whole 16-day window is a bit of a flat spell, especially for a spot that only gets fairly consistent waves. We’ve got a long gap here with no real recommendations, so it’s one of those times where you’re better off waiting for the next system to roll in. Things can change quick, but for now, don’t hold your breath.
Looking at the guidance, the only spot on the map is Tel Baruch South Beach (Israel). It’s a beginner-friendly beach break, fairly exposed to the swell but the optimum swell direction is from the west, which is what we’re seeing for most of the period. The water temp is about average for the time of year, no big anomalies to report.
The first few days, from Thursday the 23rd through to Saturday the 26th of July, are a write-off. We’ve got a moderate cross to cross-onshore breeze blowing at 12 mph, and the swell is weak – in the 2 ft to 5 ft range, but with a short period of 6 to 8 seconds. The combined energy is low, mostly under 100 (like 59 to 354), which just means weak, choppy slop. Saturday the 25th sees a little bump in size to 5 ft, but the onshore wind is still spoiling it. It’s just poor surf conditions.
Then on Sunday the 27th of July, we get a tiny glimmer. Monday morning the 27th is the best of a bad bunch. The wind goes glassy – light and variable at 3 mph from the northwest – and the swell is 4 ft from the west-northwest at 8 seconds. The combined energy hits 161 (moderate), and the wave comment says “surfable waves but very ordinary conditions.” It’s not going to be pumping, but if you’re desperate, this is the one chance to get a clean little wave. It’s a beginner spot, so that size is fine for learning, but the crowd factor is “often,” so expect company.
After that Monday morning, it’s back to the doldrums. The rest of the week and into August sees nothing but poor conditions. Winds are mostly cross-on or onshore, swell stays tiny (2 ft to 3 ft), and the periods are short (5 to 8 seconds). The combined energy is mostly under 100 (weak). There’s another glassy morning on Tuesday the 4th of August, but the swell is only 2 ft with a 5-second period – that’s barely a ripple. Not worth the paddle.
So, to sum it up: there’s no standout session here. The single best option is Monday morning the 27th of July at Tel Baruch South Beach, with 4 ft swell from the west-northwest, glassy conditions, and moderate energy (161). It’s the only time the stars align, and even then it’s just ordinary. The rest of the 16 days is a long quiet stretch, so keep your board in the car and wait for the next pulse.
Stay patient,
Rusty
