The Lowdown
Hey, Rusty again. Look, I’ll level with you – the next sixteen days at Tel Baruch South Beach are dead quiet for surf. Don’t get your hopes up. The water’s sitting around 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so it’s comfortable for a swim, but the waves just aren’t there.
We start on Friday the 21st with a tiny 2ft swell from the NW at a short 5 seconds. The wind’s WNW at 9 mph, straight onshore. The combined energy is weak (10), and the call is poor conditions. That’s the story for a long stretch.
Saturday the 22nd is more of the same – 1ft to 2ft swells, short period, winds cross-on or onshore all day. Sunday the 23rd gives you a little cross-shore breeze in the morning on a 2ft swell, but it’s still tiny and weak (18 energy). Still poor.
Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th have glassy mornings – winds go calm or near calm. The swell is only 1ft with a 6-second period and weak energy (11-13). You could get a tiny foam ball, but it’s hardly surfing.
This pattern drags through the whole week. By Friday the 28th, the swell bumps to 3ft with an 7-second period and moderate energy (62) in the afternoon, but the wind is cross-onshore and choppy. Still poor.
Saturday the 29th morning sees the biggest swell so far – 3ft from the WNW at 8 seconds and moderate energy (92). The wind is light cross-shore from the SW at 3 mph. That’s the best looking window, but it’s still small and only a short window before the wind goes onshore. Sunday the 30th morning is glassy on a 2ft swell, but energy is moderate at best (52). Weak, small waves.
We go into a gap through Monday the 31st and Tuesday the 1st of September. On the 1st, the morning swell hits 4ft – the biggest we get – with moderate energy (149). The period is only 8 seconds, and the wind is light cross-shore from the SSW. That’s surfable but “very ordinary.”
It’s not until Friday the 4th of September that we get a “surfable waves but very ordinary” call. That morning: 3ft from the WNW at 7 seconds, glassy conditions (WSW 3 mph), and moderate energy (76). That’s probably your best look – small, clean, but nothing to write home about. After that, Saturday the 5th drops back into tiny, choppy mush.
So no real standout here. If you’re keen, aim for Friday the 4th morning for the cleanest surface on a small wave. Otherwise, this run is a bust for decent surf.
Rusty.
