The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk about Tel Baruch South Beach. This stretch of sand is a beginner’s wave, fairly consistent, but it gets crowded often and is fairly exposed to the west-northwest swell. The water temperature is a touch warmer than normal for the time of year, sitting at around 84°, so that’s a small bonus. The catch is, the whole 16-day outlook is a tough one. The combined swell energy never gets strong for long—topping out at a weak 116 (moderate energy) on the morning of Sunday, 9th August, but even that still gets a “poor surf conditions” call. The swell direction is mostly from the west-northwest, which is fine, but the period is short—usually 6 to 8 seconds. That means weak, disorganised waves. The wind is the other problem; it rarely cleans up. You get cross-on, onshore, or side winds most of the time, and only a few windows of glassy or light wind conditions.
The best chance you’ve got is the morning of Thursday, 30th July. The wind goes glassy (3 mph from the west) and there’s a tiny 3 ft west-northwest swell with a 7-second period. The combined energy is 68 (weak), so it’s not powerful, but it’s the only time the wave comment says “surfable waves” instead of “poor.” If you’re a beginner and just want to get wet in clean conditions, that’s your window. After that, it’s back to days of choppy, cross-on wind and tiny waves. There is a long gap from the 31st of July all the way to the 9th of August where nothing is worth paddling out for. The end of the outlook on the 10th and 11th of August shows the same pattern: small, weak swells and poor wind. Honestly, for this stretch in the 16-day window, you’re better off leaving the board at home unless that Thursday glass-off speaks to you.
