The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you – we’re looking at a long, quiet stretch ahead. Right through this 16-day window, there’s almost nothing to get excited about, just tiny dribbles of swell and constant poor surf conditions. The only spot in the game here is Tel Baruch South Beach, a beginner-friendly beach setup that’s fairly exposed but tricky with its optimum swell direction coming from the west, while most of the little waves we see slide in from the north-west.
Right from the start, Monday the 10th kicks off with a weak 2ft north-west swell pushing a puny 27 (weak) combined energy. Water is sitting at 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The wind is a moderate cross-onshore from the north-northwest, making for choppy, poor surf – no good. Tuesday morning the 11th drops even smaller to 1ft, light cross-onshore, still poor. Tuesday afternoon goes back to the same weak 2ft with a moderate cross-onshore, choppy again.
Wednesday the 12th morning gives us a tiny 2ft swell but with glassy conditions, which is a rare moment of clean water. Unfortunately, the wave size is still tiny, and the score says poor surf conditions – so don’t get your hopes up. Wednesday afternoon returns to a moderate cross-onshore and choppy mess. Thursday the 13th through to Saturday the 15th is a blur of tiny 1ft to 2ft waves, cross-shore or onshore winds, all with poor surf conditions. Sunday the 16th morning offers another brief glassy moment with 2ft and a slightly longer period of 8 seconds, combined energy up to 59 (still weak), but again the overall call is poor surf quality. The afternoon brings a moderate onshore wind.
From Monday the 17th right through to the end of the 16-day window, we see a slow, slight increase in swell height, peaking around 3ft on the 18th with weak energy in the 70s and 75. Periods hover around 7 seconds – short period, weak, uninspiring. Wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, with only a few glassy mornings on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd where the ocean goes flat and clean, but the swell is still only 2ft. That’s about as good as it gets. The very last day, Tuesday the 25th, shows a 3ft swell with a period of 8 seconds, combined energy of 73 (weak), light cross-shore wind in the morning – still poor conditions overall.
Bottom line: there are no standout days in this outlook. The best of a bad lot might be those glassy mornings on the 21st, 22nd, or 23rd of August when you could paddle out on a longboard and catch some tiny, clean waist-high waves, but don’t expect any power or shape. For the rest of the time, the onshore wind and weak swell mean it’s more of a paddle practice session than genuine surfing. Given the consistent poor conditions across the board, this is a normal quiet run for the area. If you’re desperate, aim for those dead-calm mornings with the smallest swell – otherwise, save the energy for another week.
Rusty.
