The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, I’m looking at this and it’s pretty flat. The whole 16-day window is a tough one for us. There’s nothing here that gets me excited. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the wind is mostly messy. It’s a real struggle to find a wave worth paddling out for.

Let’s start with the first notable option. On Wednesday, August 5th, from the afternoon, Tel Baruch South Beach (Israel) has a tiny 2ft swell from the WNW with a period of only 6 seconds. The combined energy is a weak 22. That’s barely a ripple. The wind is howling from the WNW at 12 mph, straight onshore, so it’s going to be a messy, blown-out dribble. The water is a very warm 85°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s not enough to make it fun.

The next few days are more of the same. Thursday the 6th and Friday the 7th are just constant poor surf conditions with the same small, weak swell and onshore or cross-shore winds. The swell remains tiny, around 1ft to 2ft, with a period of 6 seconds. The combined energy stays low, never breaking 30. It’s a complete write-off for anyone hoping to get a proper ride.

There’s a brief moment on the morning of Monday, August 10th, where the wind goes glassy from the NW at 3 mph. The swell is still a pathetic 2ft with a 6-second period, and the combined energy is only 31. The wave comment still says “poor surf conditions,” so even with clean conditions, there’s just no power. It’s a flat, glassy lake. Tuesday morning the 11th is the same – glassy but flat, with a 1ft swell.

This pattern of tiny, weak swell continues all the way to the end of the forecast. The best we see in terms of size is a 3ft swell on the 14th and 15th, but the period is still short (6-7 seconds) and the wind is mostly cross-onshore or onshore, making it a choppy, weak mess. The combined energy finally gets into the moderate range, hitting 75 on the morning of the 15th, but it’s still a poor surf call.

The final week is more of the same. From the 16th to the 20th of August, we’re looking at 2ft to 3ft swell, all short period, with onshore or cross-shore winds. The water temperatures are not provided for the later dates, but with the swell and wind this bad, it doesn’t matter.

To be blunt, there is no standout session here. The whole 16-day window is a gap of poor quality, tiny surf. If you’re desperate for a paddle, maybe the glassy morning of the 10th or 11th will give you a float, but don’t expect a wave you can actually ride. The consistent poor conditions and lack of any real energy mean this is a blank run, and around here, that’s just how it goes sometimes. Forecasts can change, but right now, it’s a stay-at-home kind of outlook.

Rusty.
