The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a good, hard look at what’s on the table for Tel Baruch South Beach.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – the next two weeks are looking pretty bleak. There’s a massive gap right at the start with no real surf to speak of. We’re talking from now all the way through to the morning of Monday the 16th of September where we just get a tiny pulse of weak, 3ft swell from the WNW with a short 7-second period. That’s the first time the combined wave energy even cracks 80 (83), but it’s still ordinary at best. So, expect a long, flat start to the period.
The standout, and really the only time things get interesting, is around Sunday the 22nd of September into Monday the 23rd. The morning of the 22nd sees a jump in energy with a 4ft swell from the WNW at 7 seconds. The combined energy hits a moderate 138, and with a light SSW cross breeze of 9 mph, it’ll be a bit lumpy but surfable. The real winner, though, is the afternoon of Monday the 23rd of September. We get a solid 3ft swell from the WNW, but the period stretches out to 8 seconds, and the combined energy is a decent 123. The wind goes clean offshore from the WNW at 9 mph. That offshore wind is a major positive here; it’ll groom those waves nicely. It won’t be a classic, but it’s the best the window has to offer.
For the rest of the time, it’s mostly small, weak, and onshore. The water temperature, for what it’s worth at Tel Baruch South Beach, is sitting at a very unusual 86°F, which is 4°F warmer than average for this time of year. You’ll be sweating in your wettie.
Crowds are “often” an issue here, and when there’s barely a wave to go around, that’s not a great mix. There’s just not enough consistent energy or clean wind to get excited about.
Rusty.
