The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty flat for the Tel Baruk South Beach area. The swell is tiny and the wind is often onshore or cross-onshore, leaving us with nothing really rideable. You’ll be waiting a long time for any action.
The first good glimmer of hope shows up on the morning of Thursday, September 24th. We’ve got a new swell filling in from the WNW at 3ft, but here’s the kicker – the period is 11 seconds, so it’s a proper groundswell with some energy behind it. The combined energy clocks in at 273 (moderate wave energy), which is the best we’ll see all period. The wind is light and cross-shore from the SSW, which should keep things reasonably clean. The downside is that this break is a fairly exposed, beginner-friendly spot, and with the swell direction coming from the WNW and the optimum being W, it’s not a perfect match. Still, for a spot that’s been completely dead, this is a standout. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The Friday morning of September 25th offers a little more, with a 3ft WNW swell, but the period drops back to 9 seconds and the combined energy is a weaker 138 (moderate). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the S, so the surface will be clean. However, it’s still not big enough to get excited about.
Overall, don’t hold your breath for the first 14 days. The only real chance to paddle out is on the 24th and 25th, and even then, it’s more about getting wet than scoring epic waves. If you’re desperate, the 24th morning is your best bet.
Rusty.
