The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the Tel Baruch South Beach stretch is going through a bit of a flat spell. Over the next 16 days, there’s just nothing doing. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak, and the conditions are a write-off. Water temp is sitting at 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – you’ll be sweating in your wettie rather than surfing.
From Tuesday 25 August right through to Wednesday 9 September, every single session is marked as poor surf conditions. The swell is rolling in from the WNW at a measly 1 ft to 3 ft, with periods of just 5 to 8 seconds – that’s windswell junk, not real groundswell. Combined energy values are all in the two-digit range (6 to 82), which is weak. The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, especially in the afternoons, so even the tiny waves get chopped up. There are a few glassy mornings early in September, like on Tuesday 1st, Wednesday 2nd, Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th, and Saturday 5th, but the swell is so small it’s barely worth paddling out for.
The break itself is a beginner-friendly beach, fairly consistent, but with crowds often. Still, there’s simply no surf to ride. For such a long stretch of nothing, I’d say it’s a blank run – not unusual for this area when the swell window is quiet. If you’re into kite surfing, that might be your best bet when the wind picks up, but for paddle surfing, it’s a no-go.
