The Lowdown
G'day, I'm Rusty, and I've got your surf outlook for the coming weeks. Let's be straight with it – the forecast is a bit of a bummer, to be honest. We're looking at a long stretch of poor surf conditions with no standout sessions in sight.
For the next 16 days, starting from the 30th of August, the waves are going to be tiny and the energy is flat. The first day, Sunday afternoon, we've got a WNW swell of 4 ft at a short 8-second period, which gives a combined energy of just 200, so it's weak. The wind is cross-on from the west at 16 mph, making for choppy, crummy conditions. Not worth paddling out for. The water's sitting at 86°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, so that's about the only nice thing I can say.
From Monday the 31st right through to the 14th of September, it's a pretty grim run. The swell drops to under 3 ft, period stays short (6-8 seconds), and the wave energy is pitiful, with figures like 117, 79, 70, and eventually dropping to single digits. The wind is onshore or cross-onshore most of the time, with a few glassy mornings – like Thursday the 3rd, Wednesday the 9th, and Monday the 14th – but the swell is so small (1.0 ft to 2 ft) that it's not going to produce anything rideable. We're talking about a gap of days with no real surf to speak of.
The only break in the area is Tel Baruch South Beach. It's a beginner-friendly spot, but given the tiny, weak swell and choppy conditions, it's not going to offer anything. The best recommended swell direction is from the west, and we're getting some WNW swell, but the height and period are just too poor. This stretch is more suited for a paddle than a surf session.
If you're desperate, the closest thing to a "best" option is the morning of Sunday the 13th of September, with a 3 ft WNW swell, 7-second period, and light cross-shore winds from the SW at 3 mph. The energy is still low at 62, and it's barely surfable, but it's the least bad we've got. Don't hold your breath.
Alright, that's the long and short of it. We're in a flat spell, and it's not looking like it'll break soon. Keep an eye on the forecasts, but for now, maybe leave the board at home.
Rusty.
