The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next 16 days look pretty grim. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swell and the wind is mostly going to be a problem. If you’re desperate for a splash, there’s one window that might just be worth a paddle, but you’ll have to be patient.
The first half of the outlook is a write-off. From Tuesday the 21st right through to the end of the first week, the swell is tiny, mostly around 2 ft to 3 ft, and with short, weak periods of 5 to 7 seconds. The combined energy is low, sitting between 14 and 66 (weak). The wind is mostly onshore or cross-onshore, and the water is a touch warmer than normal at 84°.
The only real standout comes on Saturday the 25th in the morning. Tel Baruch South Beach will see a bump in swell to 5 ft from the WNW, with a period of 8 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 323 (moderate wave energy). The wind is light from the SSW, coming cross-shore, which will keep things reasonably clean. This is the biggest swell of the whole period, but it’s still only in the marginal category. It’s a beginner-friendly break, but with the swell size over 5 ft, it might be a little much for absolute beginners. Keep an eye on the tide.
After that, it’s back to the same story. The second week is a desert of weak, small surf. The swell hangs around 1 ft to 3 ft, with energy dropping to as low as 16 (weak). There are a few glassy mornings on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th of August, with no wind at all, but the swell is just too small to surf. The 5th of August has a glassy morning with 3 ft, but it’s still poor surf conditions.
So, to be honest, if you’re not out on the morning of the 25th, you’re looking at a long wait. The breaks are fairly consistent, but the quality just isn’t there. It’s one of those stretches where the ocean is taking a nap. Forecasts can change, so keep your ears open, but for now, it’s a quiet one.
Rusty.
