The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for the next stretch.

Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with ya – it’s looking pretty flat and quiet out there for the next week and a half. Tel Baruch South Beach (Israel) is the only spot in the picture, and it’s not exactly firing. The water’s sitting at 86°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the steamer at home, but don’t expect much else.

We’ve got a long stretch of nothing from now until around the 29th of August. That’s a solid 12 days or so where the waves are just too small or messy to get excited about. Swell heights are barely scraping 2 ft to 3 ft, periods are short, between 5 and 7 seconds, and the combined energy is weak – mostly in the single or low double digits. Winds are often onshore or cross-onshore, keeping things choppy. The only real highlight in that whole quiet spell is the morning of Friday the 21st of August, when it goes glassy with a light NW breeze at 5 km/h. But even then, it’s only 2 ft of NW swell – tiny, weak, and short period. Not worth paddling out for unless you’re desperate for a float.

Now, things start to look a little more promising as we get toward the end of the month. Saturday the 29th of August morning shows a bump: 4 ft swell from the WNW with an 8-second period, and combined energy jumping to 185. That’s moderate energy, and with a light SW breeze at 10 km/h creating cross-shore conditions, it’ll be clean with small crossing ripples. The break is fairly exposed to the swell, and the optimum direction is W, so this WNW swell is coming from a good angle. It’s still a beach break, and with the swell just over 3 ft, it’s manageable for intermediates – beginners might find it a little punchy, but it’s not huge. The downside is that the break is “fairly consistent” but crowds are often here, so expect company.

Sunday the 30th of August morning is a step down: 3 ft, 8-second period, and cross-onshore winds from the SW at 10 km/h. Still light, but not as clean. After that, it fades again into the first days of September.

Bottom line: If you’ve got patience, the standout is Saturday morning the 29th of August. That’s your best bet for a session with a bit of push and clean conditions. The rest of the run is a write-off unless you’re into flat spells and light wind.

Stay tuned, forecasts can change, but for now, it’s a waiting game.

Rusty.
