The Lowdown
Alright, mates, Rusty here. Let’s cut to the chase: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty bleak for a decent surf. We’ve got a proper flat spell on our hands, so don’t get your hopes up for any bombs. The swell window just ain’t lining up for us.
The only spot we’re looking at is Tel Baruch South Beach. It’s a fairly consistent beach break, but that’s about the only good thing going for it. The water is running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is something, but that’s where the positives end.
We start off with a real dud on Saturday the 15th. There’s a small, weak swell around 3ft from the WNW, but it’s got some cross-chop on it, and the conditions are just poor. Not worth getting wet for.
Sunday the 16th morning brings the first real glimmer of hope. The wind drops to almost nothing, leaving it glassy. The swell is still small, around 3ft, but with that kind of clean surface, it’s surfable. The energy is still weak, though, with a combined energy of just 95. It’s not gonna be a day for the highlight reel, but if you’re desperate for a paddle, this is the best of a bad bunch for the first week.
The rest of that first week is a write-off. The wind swings onshore and cross-onshore, chopping up the small, weak surf. By Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st, we’re down to 2ft to 2ft dribblers. There’s a glassy moment on the 21st, but with a period of only 5 seconds and no energy, it’s basically a lake.
The following week doesn’t offer any salvation either. It’s more of the same: small, weak, and mostly messy. There’s a tiny bump on the 26th and 27th with some light winds, but it’s still only around 2ft. Honestly, there’s nothing here to get excited about.
There is a little pulse of energy building towards the end of the period, on Sunday the 30th. The swell pushes up to 3ft to 4ft with a bit more push behind it, and the energy climbs to 168. That’s the most interesting the surf has looked all fortnight, but the wind is going to be blowing straight onshore, making it messy and choppy. For a beach break, that’s a mess. It might be more interesting for the kite surfers than us paddle surfers.
So, bottom line: the next 16 days are a flat, poor run. The only real window for a clean, albeit small, wave is Sunday morning the 16th. That’s the standout, and even then, it’s not a classic. The second week is even more forgettable. It’s a blank run, which happens sometimes. But this spot is fairly consistent normally, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the forecasts change for the better. Keep your eyes on the charts, but don’t hold your breath.
Signing off.
Rusty.
