The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s get into it.
Well, truth be told, there’s not a whole lot to get excited about in this 16-day window for the Tel Baruch South Beach area. The whole stretch from the 16th of July right through to the 31st is a flat spell on the small side, with hardly any punch. The swell is almost always under 3 ft, and the combined energy readings are weak, mostly in the teens to low 100s – nothing that’ll get your heart racing. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
The first few days, starting Thursday 16th July, we’ve got a tiny 3 ft WNW swell with a short period of 8 seconds, but the wind is cross or onshore, so it’s messy and poor. No real surf to speak of – just small, lumpy lines. Friday and Saturday are even smaller, with swell dropping to 2 ft, and while Saturday morning and Sunday morning go glassy, the waves are barely there – 2 ft to 2 ft – so it’s more of a paddle than a surf. The combined energy is only 30 or 27 (weak). You’d be better off waiting.
From Monday 20th July, it gets smaller still – 1 ft to 2 ft – and the wind keeps it choppy. This continues right through to the end of the month. There’s a slight uptick around Monday 27th July, where the swell pushes to 4 ft with a period of 7-8 seconds, and the combined energy climbs to 123-159 (moderate), but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, so it’s poor and lumpy. The break is a beach setup, so it’s not going to hold that short-period swell well. Honestly, this whole stretch looks more interesting for a kite than a paddle.
The blank run is pretty much the whole 16 days – there’s no standout session. The spot is fairly consistent, so it’s a bit of a lull, but forecasts can change. For now, keep your board waxed and wait.
Rusty.
