The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s cooking for Tel Baruch South Beach over the next 16 days.
Plain and simple – there’s no good surf on offer. The entire forecast window from July 19 right through to August 3 is a write‑off. Every single session is tagged as poor surf conditions, and the numbers back that up. The swell is tiny most of the time – generally 1–2 ft, coming from the WNW with a short period of 5–7 seconds. That’s weak, short‑period windswell, not the kind of thing that’ll get you excited. The combined wave energy is mostly in the teens to sixties, barely hitting moderate on a couple of afternoons (61 on July 24 afternoon, 142 on July 25 afternoon, 197 on July 25 morning). But even those moments are ruined by onshore or cross‑onshore winds – mainly from the NW at 12–13 mph, with a few glassy mornings that are too small to bother with.
Water temperature is sitting at 83°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – a nice detail if you’re just swimming, but not enough to save the surf.
The break itself is a beginner spot, fairly consistent when the swell is right, and it likes a W swell. Unfortunately, the swell direction is mostly WNW or NW, and the optimum in the guidance is from the west, so it’s out of alignment. The winds are almost never offshore – the only truly glassy windows are on July 20 morning (1 ft), July 29 morning (3 ft), and July 31 morning (2 ft). But those waves are too small and weak to bother paddling out for.
Bottom line: there’s nothing worth chasing. The entire 16‑day stretch is a flat, blown‑out mess. Tel Baruch can be fairly consistent, but this run is a dud. Sometimes it’s just like that – keep an eye on the forecasts, because things can change. For now, leave the board at home.
