The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here.
Look, I’m gonna level with you – the next 16 days at Tel Baruch South Beach are a bit of a flat spell. We’ve got a long stretch of small, weak swells and mostly onshore or cross-onshore winds. The water’s sitting at 85°F, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least the dip’s pleasant, but it’s not making the surf any better.
The first real action we see is from Wednesday the 12th, but it’s tiny – 1ft from the WNW with a short 7-second period. That’s not enough to get excited about, and the wind is onshore at 12 mph. The combined energy is only 17, so it’s weak. Thursday the 13th offers a glimmer with a 1ft swell and a 6-second period, but the wind is cross-onshore, making for small wind ripples. This keeps up for days – small, weak, and messy. The best chance of a clean wave comes on Wednesday the 19th morning, when a glassy 2ft WNW swell (6-second period) shows up. That’s about as good as it gets, but the energy is still weak at 35. Thursday the 20th morning is also glassy with 2ft, but again, tiny. After that, it’s back to small, choppy conditions through to the end of the month.
Honestly, there’s no standout day here. The swell stays under 3ft the whole time, periods are short, and the wind is rarely your friend. For beginners, it’s not too big, but the lack of quality means it’s not great for anyone. The beach is fairly exposed, but the WNW swell direction doesn’t match the optimum W direction, so the waves are weak and poorly shaped. Crowds are often here, so you’ll have company even on these small days.
There’s a big gap of poor surf from the start through to the end – no real standouts at all. If you’re desperate, the glassy mornings on the 19th and 20th are your best bet, but don’t expect much. For a kite surfer, the onshore winds and small chop might be more interesting than for paddle surfing.
Rusty.
