The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Gotta be straight with you. The outlook for Six Men's Bay over the next 16 days is a tough one. There's no real surf to get excited about anywhere in the window. The water's sitting at a warm 85°, which is about average for this time of year, but that's about the only thing that's normal.

We kick off on Friday, 11 September, and the pattern is set early: a tiny 1.0 ft north swell with a 9-second period, but it's getting blown out by a strong 19 mph cross-off wind. The wave energy is weak (18), and the forecast is calling it "poor surf conditions" right through. That same small, weak (16) swell hangs around for Saturday, still hammered by a fresh breeze.

Sunday the 13th brings a brief moment. In the morning, we see a 0.7 ft north pulse with a moderate 12 mph offshore wind. It's clean, but the energy (5) is almost non-existent. It's a tiny, clean wave for a log, but nothing to write home about. That tiny wave clears out by Monday, and then we hit a long, dry spell. From Monday, 14 September right through to Friday, 18 September, the surf is essentially flat.

There is a little blip on Wednesday, 16 September in the afternoon with a 0.3 ft swell, but it has a 15-second period. That's a very long period for such a tiny wave, so it will be weak and inconsistent at this exposed reef (energy just 4).

The next real chance of a wave shows up on Saturday, 20 September. The morning has a 1 ft north swell with a 9-second period and a clean 16 mph offshore wind. The combined energy (34) is still weak, but it's the most we've seen. It’s a waist-high wave at best, but if it's glassy and offshore, it could be a fun, uncrowded session for a longboard. After that, it fades again.

The tail end of the forecast, around Friday, 25 September, brings a 1.0 ft pulse from the NNW, with a 10-second period and a moderate cross-off wind. The energy (21) is weak. It’s more of the same: small and clean but nothing that's going to get the heart racing.

Honestly, the whole 16-day stretch is a write-off for decent waves. It's one of those blank runs that happen here. Don't hold your breath; forecasts can change, but right now, there’s nothing on the table. Keep the boards in the car and the wax in the cupboard.

Rusty.
