Ste Barbe Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it. We're looking at a tough 16-day stretch for Sainte-Barbe, a reef setup that really needs a clean, lined-up swell and the right wind to turn on. To be honest, it’s a lean period, but there are a couple of windows to keep an eye on.

The water is sitting at 67°F right now, which is about 2°F warmer than usual for this time of year – feels a little bit like summer is holding on.

We start with a tease on Tuesday morning, the 1st of September. There's a 3ft swell from the west with a 10-second period, clean and glassy with a light NE breeze. The energy is weak at 179, but it would be surfable. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold. The wind shifts onshore that afternoon and the swell drops, and we’re looking at a solid run of poor conditions with tiny, choppy waves right through until the end of the first week. The swell energy drops into the double digits – 32, 20, 72 – just no power or shape.

There’s a small pulse on Saturday the 5th. The morning shows 3ft from the west, and the wind is offshore from the ENE. It’s clean, but the energy is only 185, making for weak, ordinary waves. The afternoon goes glassy with 2ft, which is better but still small.

Now, here’s the standout. Mark Friday the 11th of September in your calendar. The morning brings a 5ft swell from the west-southwest, pushed along by a clean offshore NNE breeze at 9 mph. The energy jumps up to 522, which is solid, and the 8-second period is short but punchy. This is the best we’re going to see. It’s still a reef break that is inconsistent, and at 5ft, it’s starting to get sizey, so it’s one for the experienced crew. The afternoon holds at 5ft with a cross-offshore wind, still clean and good.

After that, the swell backs off. We get a small, clean window on the 15th of September – Tuesday morning – with 3ft from the west-southwest and a long 12-second period. That longer period gives it some shape, and with a light offshore wind, the morning session could be fun if you need a wave, but the energy is moderate at 240. The afternoon gets chopped up by the onshore wind.

For the rest of the run, it’s mostly small, messy, or wind-affected. The 5ft pulse on the 11th is your one true winner in this outlook. Get on it if you can.
