The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get into it. The surf out here is pretty flat for the most part, so we’ve gotta be patient. The first real tease of a wave doesn’t show up until Thursday the 17th, but even that’s pretty weak – just over 3 feet and messy. You’d be better off waiting.

The standout window is Saturday morning the 19th. That’s the one to circle. We’ve got a clean 4 feet of NW groundswell, with that period up at 13 seconds. That’s proper. Light ENE offshores are holding it together and the combined energy is reading 545 – that’s a solid push. Sainte-Barbe (Biarritz) is sheltered from NW anyway, so it’ll be handling that nicely. Crowds can be a bit of a thing there sometimes, but on a morning like that, it’s worth mixing in.

Then Monday the 21st morning also brings a bit of life – 4 feet of NW groundswell, 14-second period, glassy with barely a breath of wind. Combined energy’s at 457. That’s another good window, again clean and racy. Not quite as punchy as the Saturday, but still fun.

After that, it fades fast. The 22nd has a tiny pulse, but nothing doing. Then we’re into a real dry spell – from the 23rd through the end of the window, there’s just no energy. Waves drop to under a foot. Long period stuff, but no height behind it. Nothing to paddle for.

So bottom line: Saturday the 19th and Monday the 21st mornings are your best bets. Everything else is pretty much a skunk. Water temp’s about average for this time of year, so a thin wetsuit’s fine.

Keep an eye on the long-range – it’s promising but not locked in yet. Stay keen.
