Pointe des Trois Bassins Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Pointe des Trois Bassins.

Straight up, I’m not gonna sugar-coat it: this 16-day window is a total bust for surf. We’ve got a long, dry run of flat or near-flat conditions with almost no energy to speak of. The first recommendation doesn’t even pop up until Tuesday morning, the 4th of August, and even then it’s a tough sell.

Tuesday morning the 4th sees a tiny 2ft NE swell rolling in, but it’s a weak pulse with wave energy sitting at just 90 (low energy). The wind is light offshore from the SW at 3 mph, but the overall conditions are still described as poor. That afternoon, the wind goes glassy and we get a little 2ft swell from the SE, but with a short period of 6 seconds and combined energy of only 53, it’s not gonna have any push. The break is a reef/river setup, and it’s very consistent, but we just don’t have the swell to back that up.

The rest of the first week through to the 10th of August is a real drag. Every day is tagged as “poor surf conditions” with swell heights mostly hanging around 1ft to 2ft and wave energy rarely cracking 72. The winds are a mixed bag of glassy, cross, and cross-on, but the swell is just too weak to get excited about. The water temp is sitting at 77°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, but that’s small comfort when there’s no waves.

We hit a dead zone from the 8th of August Saturday morning right through to the 14th of August, with lots of zeros on the combined energy. There’s a tiny flicker on the 13th of August Thursday afternoon, with a 1ft NE groundswell (12-second period, 48 energy) and clean cross-off wind from the N at 6 mph, but it’s still rated as poor surf. That’s a long period for such a tiny wave, and it’s likely to be too straight for a beach break, but this spot is a reef/river setup, so it might line up a little better. Still, you’re not missing much.

The only real standout in the whole 16-day run is the 15th of August Saturday afternoon. We get a bit of a pulse from the E at 3ft with a 10-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 121 (moderate). The wind is cross-on from the SSE at 12 mph, which is choppy and not great, but it’s the most energy we’re gonna see. For a more experienced surfer, this might be worth a paddle, but the onshore wind will trash the surface. The 16th of August Sunday afternoon sees cleaner cross-off wind from the ESE at 9 mph, but there’s zero swell recorded.

Honestly, for a spot that’s very consistent, this is a rough run. It’s a blank period for the area, and it’s not likely to stay this poor forever, but for now, the forecast is pretty grim. If you’re desperate, the 15th of August afternoon is the only window with any real grunt, but it’s gonna be a choppy mess.
