The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here again. Let’s break this down in feet and Fahrenheit, ’cause that’s how some of us measure the stoke.
Don’t get your hopes up, folks—Paco D’arcos is looking pretty flat for the next two weeks. The water’s at 67°F, which is running a little colder than normal for this time of year—nothing wild, but you’ll notice it without a good wetsuit.
The first full week, from September 12th all the way to the morning of September 21st, is a total write-off. The combined wave energy is nearly zero, mostly in the single digits (0 to 10). You’ll see clean, glassy mornings and offshore breezes in there, but the swell is a pathetic 0.3ft or less. Not worth wetting your wetsuit.
There’s a slight pulse on September 21st and 22nd. Monday the 21st afternoon sees a 2ft south swell with a short, weak 4-second period, and energy just at 10. Tuesday the 22nd morning is glassy with a 1ft south swell, 4-second period, and energy at 6. This is longboard-only knee-slappers, if you’re really jonesing. The wind is clean, but there’s just no push.
The only window that might get a “hell yeah” out of me is the morning of Thursday, September 25th. We’ve got a tiny 0.3ft south-west groundswell, but the period stretches to 15 seconds and the energy finally reads 11. The wind is light offshore from the NNW at 3 mph. For a sheltered point break like Paco D’arcos, that long period means the waves could peel nicely, even at that tiny size. It’s inconsistent here usually, so every sliver of swell counts. The surface will be clean as a whistle. Crowds are only *sometimes* an issue, so you might grab a few fun, glassy lines all to yourself.
The rest of the month and into the 27th is back to flat. The wind stays favorable mostly, but without swell, it’s just a good day for a float on a SUP.
Rusty.
