The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of surf shaping up at Monuments, so let’s get into it.

The window kicks off on Thursday afternoon the 6th of August. We’re looking at a consistent, long-period SSW groundswell rolling in, with wave heights around 2ft to 3ft. The real story here is the quality: a light cross-offshore breeze is keeping the faces clean, and the water is a balmy 86°F — that’s much warmer than what we’d usually expect for this time of year, so you can leave the thick suit at home.

Friday morning the 7th looks very good. Swell bumps up slightly to 3ft from the SSW, with a 17-second period. The wind stays light and cross-off, making for clean, lined-up waves. The wave energy is moderate (642), and the sets will have some real push for an advanced spot like Monuments.

The standout for the whole period is the weekend of the 14th and 15th of August. On Friday the 14th, we see a jump in size to 5ft from the SW, with a 17-second period. The combined energy surges into the strong range (1228), and the wind turns offshore — clean, moderate, and powerful. Saturday the 15th keeps that energy going (1073) with a 5ft SW swell and light cross-offshore winds. This is the best on offer: proper groundswell, good size for the advanced crew, and clean conditions. Expect some serious walls.

Through the early part of the second week, the swell settles back to 3ft to 4ft but the quality holds. There are a few mornings with glassy conditions, particularly Monday the 17th and Tuesday the 18th, where the wind drops to nothing. Those are perfect windows for smooth, clean lines, even if the swell isn’t pumping.

By the 21st of August, the energy drops off noticeably (204), and the swell backs down to 2ft. The period shortens, and the wind picks up to a moderate breeze, so the last few days are more of a marginal call. It’s still rideable, but the magic is fading.

To wrap it up: the best days are the 14th and 15th of August with 5ft SW groundswell, strong energy, and clean offshore winds. If you can only get out once, that’s your window.

Rusty.
