The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, with a look at what's coming our way at Monuments. This is a classic point break setup, and it's looking like we've got a solid run of surf ahead, so let's get into it.
Right off the bat, we're starting with a bit of a slow burner. The first few days are small but clean. Thursday morning, the 6th of August, we've got tiny 2 ft SW swell rolling in with a super long 18-second period, but the cross-offshore wind keeps things tidy. The energy is weak (340), so you'll be on a log or a funboard, but it's a nice way to ease into the period. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Things start to build nicely on Friday morning, the 7th. The swell picks up to a clean 3 ft from the SSW, still with a lovely long 17-second period, and the wind goes glassy. That's a magic combo for a point like Monuments. The energy is building too, now at a moderate 743. This is a great morning to be out there. The afternoon breeze picks up but stays cross-off, keeping it ridable.
The weekend is looking pretty good overall. Saturday morning, the 8th, is another standout with a 4 ft SSW swell, 16-second period, and light cross-off winds. The energy is solid at 658. Expect some crowds, as this spot can get busy when it's working. Sunday’s a bit more mixed, with a cross-shore wind making things a little lumpy, but it's still surfable.
Now, let's talk about the real jewel in this forecast. The morning of Friday the 14th of August is looking absolutely prime. We've got a solid 5 ft SSW swell, a long 18-second period, and glassy conditions. The energy is strong (1552), and this is going to be excellent for experienced surfers. The sets will be powerful and clean, a real treat. The next morning, Saturday the 15th, is also a cracker, with 5 ft SW swell, 16-second period, and more glassy conditions. The energy is strong (1080). These two mornings are the undisputed highlights of the whole outlook.
After that, the swell backs off a touch, but we stay in the 3 ft to 4 ft range for the rest of the period, with mostly clean conditions thanks to offshore or cross-off winds. The week of the 18th onward sees shorter period swells, around 14-15 seconds, but the consistency is there. The very last day we have a look at, Friday the 21st of August, shows a nice 4 ft SSW swell with a gentle offshore wind, a solid way to wrap things up.
So, to sum it up: get in the water for those glassy mornings on the 7th, 8th, and especially the 14th and 15th. The rest of the time offers consistent, clean waves on a reliable point, but those two Fridays are the standouts. Keep an eye on the forecast for the second week though, as long-range calls can shift.
Rusty.
